Small Projects, Big Bang - 12/31/09 09:23 AM
I recently read this article in Realtor Magazine and thought I'd share.  There are some great cost-saving tips here for remodeling.
Small Projects, Big BangJudicious home remodeling is still worth the investment, according to Remodeling magazine's annual "Cost vs. Value Report." By G.M. Filisko
Uncertainty and restraint are the order of the day in this economy, and that sense of caution is reflected in home owners' return on their investment in remodeling projects, according to REALTORS® in 80 metropolitan markets surveyed by Remodeling magazine for this year's Cost vs. Value Report.
The majority of the 10 remodeling projects with the … (1 comments)

Happy, Safe, Healthy New Year to All - 12/31/09 07:47 AM

Tonight is New Year's Eve, and while we are all thinking of celebrating with friends and family, I can't help but think of ways to help everyone be safe on the roads tonight.
You've heard it before - don't drink and drive.  I'll repeat just so it's fresh in all our minds - don't drink and drive.  If you want to drink, please have a designated driver get you home safely.  Or better yet, stay where you are and enjoy breakfast with your friends and family.
I wish you all a happy, safe, healthy New Year.  May 2010 be the … (3 comments)

Adopt a Humane Shelter Animal, Please - 12/30/09 03:21 PM

Meet Cuervo, our 11-month old orange tiger adopted from the Milford, MA Humane society.  We were told he would be a  small cat, but you know how that goes.  He spends half his time sleeping on someone's lap and the other half of his time eating.  He is 13 pounds and seems to be still growing.
Our relationship with different animal humane shelters began several years ago.  Every spring we would adopt a mother cat and her littler of kittens from Baypath Humane Society in Hopkinton, MA.  We would raise them until they were about three months old.  At that … (2 comments)

Freddie Sees Mortgage Rates Hitting 6% in 2010 - 12/29/09 03:21 PM
Thought I'd share an article written by Dina ElBoghdady, a Washington Post Staff Writer and forwarded to me from our in-house mortgage consultant, Paula Collins:
After hitting an all-time low in early December, the average rate on a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage rose to 5.05 percent this week and could climb to 6 percent by the end of 2010, if not sooner, according to giant mortgage financier Freddie Mac. The results are noteworthy because rates have not topped 5 percent since the last week of October, when they reached 5.03 percent, based on the results of this closely watched survey, which polls … (1 comments)

Does Top Producer Work on an Apple Computer - 12/29/09 10:37 AM
I'm gathering information to possibly purchase an Apple computer.  I am reaching out to anyone who uses an Apple computer and also uses Top Producer on that computer.
I called Top Producer this morning, and they indicate that they do not support Top Producer on a Mac.  However, they also said that 10 percent of their Top Producer customers use a Mac.  So I assume there must be a way to use Top Producer on a Mac.
If anyone has specific experience with using Top Producer on a Mac, I'd be very interested in hearing your opinion of how it works, how difficult … (0 comments)

Big Papi's Grille - Natick, MA - A New Family Favorite - 12/29/09 10:09 AM

If you are looking for an extensive menu to satisfy every member of the family, try Big Papi's Grille in Natick, MA.  It's on the eastbound side of Route 9, just across from Shopper's World.
We wanted to try something new last night and ended up at Big Papi's Grille.  We were very pleasantly surprised.  We expected a sports bar with the typical burgers and beer.  What we found at Big Papi's Grille was the sleek elegance of leather upholstry, a foyer heated with warming lights, a very pleasant and knowledgeable waiter, and American food unfused with Dominican accents.
It's … (1 comments)

Apple Computers and Real Estate - 12/29/09 07:34 AM

I am considering purchasing an Apple computer for my home.  I'd like any of  your thoughts on how this computer will handle all the real estate sites I use on a daily basis.
Does anyone have any information about whether Top Producer will work on a Mac?  Any other thoughts about a Mac versus a PC for real estate?
After fighting with my PC and paying a lot of money to have my PC fixed over and over, I'm ready for a change.  Even with virus protection, I'm still getting numerous viruses.  Each time my computer is down for several … (5 comments)

The True Story of Rudolph - 12/25/09 02:51 PM

I thought it appropriate to share a little story that someone was kind enough to share with me. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
**_True Story of Rudolph_**
A man named Bob May, depressed and brokenhearted, stared out his drafty apartment window into the chilling December night.
His 4-year-old daughter Barbara sat on his lap quietly sobbing. Bobs wife, Evelyn, was dying of cancer.
Little Barbara couldn't understand why her mommy could never come home. Barbara looked up into her dad's eyes and asked, "Why isn't Mommy just like everybody else's Mommy?" Bob's jaw tightened and his eyes welled with tears. Her question brought waves … (2 comments)

The McBride Team of RE/MAX Executive Realty would like to congratulate Thomas Weaver on his award for Student of the Month.  Tom is a senior at Hopkinton High School where he plays tight end for the Varsity Football team.  Tom is also the treasurer of the student government.  In his spare time, he trained to become a member of Mentors Unite, which is a program where older students mentor younger students.  Tom was recently chosen as both Prom King and Homecoming King.  He co-coached the girls' powder puff football team during his junior and senior high school years.  He is … (2 comments)

Helping Families in Need During the Holidays - 12/21/09 07:30 AM

Most of us are lucky enough to wake up on Christmas morning to a mound of Christmas presents under the tree.  Some are not so fortunate.  That's why we all need to help.
Have you ever seen a Christmas tree in a mall or in a community center that is loaded with pieces of paper listing families in need?  Let's all choose a child or two, or an entire family to help this Christmas.  This is December 21, and if there are still families and children in need, it's time to step up quickly.  For a few dollars we can … (1 comments)

Time to Make a Snowman - 12/20/09 09:27 AM

If you live in southern Massachusetts, you have probably opened your eyes this morning to a beautiful blanket of about 15 inches of snow.  Time to make a snowman!
It's Sunday, so pretend you have nowhere to go. You can finish shopping when the sun comes out and the roads are safe.  Or you can shop on the intenet today, bake some cookies and watch the Patriots.  That sounds like a plan to me.
So, enjoy this lovely, white snow.  Enjoy the day.  And enjoy the wonders of the holiday season.

Shopping Mall Parking Woes - 12/18/09 10:42 AM

Christmas presents, shopping, wrapping - all the wonderful words we associate with Christmas.  But then there is the dreaded mall, the parking and the crowds.
I arrive at the mall just to pick up a few last minute things.  I spy a shopper loaded with bags headed to the parking garage.  I track her every move.  She's a little slow with the weight of her packages.  But she finally slows down and I get excited.  Then she cuts right through two lanes of parking spaces and heads to the other side of the lot.  Oh, well.  I just go … (3 comments)

Rachel's Challenge - Speaker Larry Scott - 12/17/09 12:33 PM

On December 14th I went to the Nipmuc Regional High School program entitled "Rachel's Challenge."  This was certainly stimulating and inspiring.  Rachel Scott was the first student to be shot at Columbine High School in 1999.  Family and friends are carrying out her story through the program, Rachel's Challenge. Before Rachel's death, she presented 5 challenges to the American society:
 Eliminate prejudice by looking for the best in others;
 Dare to dream by setting goals and keeping a journal;
 Choose your influences, input determines output;
 Kind words, small acts of kindness = huge impact;
 Start a chain reaction … (2 comments)
