As always I'm keeping you updated about the new school. Here's an article I just wrote for my community newsletter!
Porter Ranch School Update
The latest meeting for the new Porter Ranch school was held September 24, 2008. The meeting was to discuss the draft of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). This report is required for all new schools built by LAUSD. It informs the public and the builders of the school about potential environmental impacts building the school might have on the community.
The study found little or no environment impact regarding land use, agricultural resources, recreations, population, housing, biological resources, cultural resources, and public services to name a few. However, the initial study did find there will be significant impact on noise, air quality during construction, pedestrian safety, transportation and traffic. These environmental impacts do not come as a surprise. We are building a school and with each EIR finding there is a solution. The report recommends mitigation measures including the use of cross guards at the school, route maps for driving, reduced speed limits, and installation of new stop lights.
Over all the school has been given a very good Environmental Impact Report. Copies of the report can be viewed at Castlebay Elementary, Germain Elementary, Frost Middle School, Lawrence Middle School, and the Porter Ranch Library.
