battle creek: Buying a Foreclosed Home in the Battle Creek Market Area - 02/27/11 10:54 PM
If you are interested in buying a foreclosed home in the Battle Creek area, there are certain points about the negotiating process you should become familiar with. Despite the importance of being organized, as I have stressed in my other blog posts, such as this one on 'Basic Steps to Buying a Foreclosure'. It is also vital to understand the behind the scenes process that a bank or mortgage company goes through before the house is listed for sale. Banks and mortgage companies, the large ones like Bank of America, Chase and Wells Fargo typically hire a third party Service Company

battle creek: Donkey following in the snow... - 02/18/11 03:57 PM
I took this photo last week before the weather warmed up and finally melted all the snow. I kind of thought this was an interesting set of monuments on this ladies front yard. It kind of reminded me of Sancho Panza in the story of Don Quixote. I thought I would pass this along to share with my friends on Active Rain. Nothing stops a donkey from following in the snow, even in deep snow!

battle creek: Snowy Winter Creek in Battle Creek, Michigan - 02/08/11 10:03 AM
I was showing a house back in December, and my clients were late in arriving. The house was quite special, and although it was close to the city, it had a unique private setting. The owners had built a new deck in the back which overlooked a private creek that has this wonderful winding effect through the woods. I thought the snow on the ground and leaves off the trees gave it a great highlight, so I took several photos. This one is my favorite. I hope you enjoy it. If you are looking for Southwest Michigan Real Estate, give

battle creek: Winter picture window... - 02/05/11 10:19 AM
I was at a house a few weeks ago that I have under contract for some buyers. I was meeting with the home inspector and pest inspector for my clients, who were at work. I had some time to sit down and catch up on some work while I waited for them to get done with their inspections. It was a wintery and snowing day, and I took this photo from the dining room table as I thought it just looked so compelling. This house seemed to almost be designed for showcasing the beauty of nature outside. I hope you enjoy

battle creek: Have a Giraffey Day, Even if it is Cold and Snowy! - 01/31/11 10:46 AM
As we are in the middle of winter here in Michigan, I along with many others find us at this point at the end of January longing for spring. In Battle Creek we have the Binder Park Zoo, where it has a wonderful Giraffe exhibition. During the cold winter months, the Giraffes are moved indoors, and are well cared for. I thought that today I would share a few photos here of the Giraffes, as a reminder of warmer weather to come. These were photos I took last year when visiting the Binder Park Zoo. Right now I have a listing in the

They draw a regular following of fans from around the area, and one learns that if you are going to go that you arrive early to enjoy the pre-game warm-up. The Battle Creek Revolution hockey team is part of the All-American Hockey League, which is single ‘A' professional hockey. The league is a small one, consisting of a total of six teams right now. Addington Hills Cafe' in Battle Creek, Michigan is a wonderful dining experience. This regionally popular restaurant located right here in Battle Creek, Michigan opened in 1999 offering breakfast and luncheon in a warm Mediterranean setting, with catering services also available. In 2008, as Addington Hills grew in popularity, coupled with customer requests, they expanded hours and opened for dinner Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. battle creek: Winter Gatherers... - 01/10/11 03:50 PM
Last week we experienced several days in a row of steady snowfall here in Southwest Michigan. I have a window at the top of the stairs at home that overlooks the backyard, and I occasionally look outside and look at the weather conditions. Last week, I grabbed my camera and began taking photos of all the activity in my yard from the winter gatherers. Squirrels and birds were bounding all over the yard, apparently gathering last minute provisions. Within a few moments I spotted blue jays, cardinals, a red-headed wood pecker, and several other birds all over the yard and in

battle creek: 2011 President of the Battle Creek Area Association of REALTORS® - 01/04/11 03:01 PM
Well the New Year is here, and thus begins my terms as the 2011 President of the Battle Creek Area Association of REALTORS®. I have searched the Association of Realtors as a volunteer since 2006, working the time in around my business as a full time Realtor in Battle Creek. I have been the chairman of the Professional Development Committee for the past four years, which directs the education programs offered by the board for the membership. In this role, I was able to expand the continuing education benefits for our membership, and encourage members to further their education as professionals. I

battle creek: Horrocks Market in Battle Creek - 12/12/10 11:02 PM
Horrocks Market in Battle Creek is a unique and original privately owned grocery store near downtown. It is really more of a Farmers Market with an urban eclectic twist. The store has grown over the years, and the owners are constantly experimenting with new ideas to make it a consumer buying destination in the area. Horrocks Market in Battle Creek is more than just a grocery store where you can get freshly made bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, cheese, and many other items in their fantastic stock of fresh foods. Nor is it about their fabulous collection of wine, candy and

battle creek: Snow Falling in Battle Creek, Michigan - 12/08/10 05:30 PM
Snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan is something that we who live here come to expect. It is now December 2010, and although we have been somewhat pardoned this season from having snow until now, it is kind of hard to get into the holiday spirit when there is none of the white stuff coming down or on the ground. Snow falling in Battle Creek, Michigan brings about a natural cleanliness to the landscape, and an ambience that is peaceful to behold. Sure, it is a time that we dig out winter coats from the back of the closet, and scramble

battle creek: Buying Your First Home in Battle Creek, Michigan - 12/05/10 02:40 PM
If you live in the Calhoun County area, you may be considering buying your first home in Battle Creek, Michigan. The times we are in offer a great opportunity for first time home buyers and the opportunities for buying your first home in Battle Creek could never be better. Today, few home buyers have the cash savings to buy a home outright, so most need to explore getting approved for a loan to purchase a home. There are three basic first time home buyer loan programs that I usually recommend for buying your first home in Battle Creek. First, if you

battle creek: Interesting Statistics on International Investors - 12/02/10 12:14 PM
Foreign buyers who understand the value of U.S. homeownership are taking advantage of the opportunities in today's housing market. The National Association of REALTORS® 2010 Profile of International Home Buying Activity survey revealed that international interest in U.S. real estate is currently driven by the strength of the dollar, the value and desirability of U.S. real estate and the emerging economic recovery. Foreign buyers are estimated to have purchased $66 billion in U.S. property over the past year, which represents 7 percent of the total residential market. Twenty-eight percent of Realtors® reported working with at least one international client in the

battle creek: The Real Value of Home Ownership - 11/30/10 09:25 PM
The real value of homeownership is sometimes lost in all the media these days. The truth is that homeownership isn’t for everyone. However, for those ready to take on the responsibility, the desire to purchase a house goes much deeper than a dollars-and-cents analysis. Understandably, job security is in the forefront of concerns for many Americans and renting provides relocation flexibility, but most people don’t want to uproot their families and disrupt established friendships by leaving the community they call home. In fact, the typical recent home buyer moved only 19 miles from his or her previous home. According to the

battle creek: A Home for the Holidays - 11/28/10 11:59 AM
While the winter months are often considered perfect for spending time with loved ones, they could also be an excellent time to buy a home. You can get yourself a home for the holidays. There is a general perception that real estate activity typically slows down a bit during colder months. Many people don't find the idea of house hunting in the cold very appealing. Also, many families are focused on the school year and their holiday shopping - which tends not to include shopping for a house. This reduced competition can work to a buyer's advantage. With fewer people searching

battle creek: A Qualified Buyer in Winter is Generally a Very Serious Buyer - 11/25/10 04:24 PM
A qualified buyer in winter is generally a very serious buyer. If you live in Michigan, and are considering placing your home on the market, do not buy into the old saw that you should wait until spring to place your home on the market. Too many sellers hold off for this, thinking that there are fewer buyers, and they might have more ‘luck' when the weather gets warmer. I have found the opposite philosophy to be true. The reason you should consider placing your home on the market during the heavy winter months of December, January, February and March is

battle creek: Let's Talk Turkey for a Minute, shall we? - 11/23/10 01:05 PM
Let's talk turkey for a minute, shall we? Being that this is the season for turkey dinners across the USA, I thought I would engage in some turkey talk for this blog post. Just outside Battle Creek, Michigan, North of Marshall we have the locally owned and operated ‘Cornwell's Turkeyville Farm and Restaurant' where you can go enjoy some good food (usually turkey related) all year long. In fact they are open for Thanksgiving, and guess what they are serving? That's right: Turkey. So when we are talking turkey, it is hard not to wander on over to Turkeyville, which is a great

battle creek: Single Family Housing in Battle Creek, Michigan - 11/17/10 09:01 PM
Single family housing in Battle Creek is the general term used for homes that are a one family home. This can be defined as any sized home that can comfortably house 1-5 people, but is more often defined as any single group of people living as a family in a single home, as opposed to a ‘multi-family' home which would be like an apartment building as an example. Single family housing in Battle Creek can be a free standing home, or a condominium. When one mentions ‘Single family housing in Battle Creek' one typically thinks about a free standing house in

battle creek: Owning a Home in Battle Creek, Michigan - 11/17/10 08:50 PM
Owning a home in Battle Creek, Michigan is a desirable goal for anyone who is currently renting. If you write that check to a landlord each month, and ever have the thought that it would be nice if you could just keep the money, then you should consider owning a home. Owning a home in Battle Creek, or anywhere, is essentially the same as renting each month, but you are buying something tangible with your monthly payments. When you rent, you are buying time, or as it could be better defined ‘Time to remain where you are'. So owning a home
