nature: Sometimes the snow is so cold it sparkles - 02/18/13 12:03 AM
The other night I was walking to my car and the temperature had dropped considerably after the morning snowfall.  The light from a street light near where I was parked cast a shower of sparkles across the snow.  I took out my iPhone, even though I was freezing without gloves on, and tried to capture the sparkles.  Here is the photograph.  I looked at it today, and realized they are indeed there if you look close.  Just another wonder of nature to take in during daily living.  (It does not make me stop longing for summer though.)

nature: Greetings from Mother Goose and Her Family - 05/26/12 01:19 AM
I was at a stoplight the other day and looked out the window at a grassy area on the side of the road and saw thus momma goose with her babies.  I always try to keep my camera handy for those moments.  I was able to capture this photo before the light turned green and I had to move with the traffic.  Although, I suppose a few honks from the cars behind me probably would not have bothered momma goose!
The babies still had their down coats, and were quite large.  This area of town is near the river, so we … (3 comments)

nature: A Collection of Flower Photographs - 10/17/11 04:49 AM
When I took a trip to Cashiers, North Carolina last week, I took my camera with me.  During my time there I came across some flowers and took a few photos.  I had forgotten I had taken these until I reviewed what was on my camera recently.  I am not sure on the names of these, but I thought they were quite beautiful and so am sharing some of these here.  In Michigan a lot of the outdoor flowers are going away now, so it was refreshing to be in a more Southern state for a few days.  I took these … (13 comments)

nature: What Bird's Are Up To When We Are Not Looking... - 08/24/11 03:54 AM
I was in Marshall, Michigan not too long ago and was showing a foreclosure to a prospective buyer.  The home was in pretty rough shape, and after a few minutes I knew it was going to be beyond the scope of work for his needs.  When he were still upstairs checking out the bedrooms, I walked downstairs and went out on the front porch.
Up in the corner of the porch was a bird nest and next to it was a little model general store with signs for 'fresh produce'.  I suppose this did not turn out to be a very good location for that bird's … (8 comments)

nature: The Face Only a Mother Vulture Could Love... - 08/24/11 03:34 AM
A few months ago I was traveling in the area of Dowling, Michigan which is North of Battle Creek, in Barry County.  It is mostly a rural area, and I was heading up there to show a house and check on a listing I had in the area as well.  It was one of those days when I was ahead of schedule, and I drove past this fence alongside the road, and standing there on the fence was this vulture.
I thought to myself 'Well, that is something you do not see everyday.  Might make a nice shot for the blog.'  So … (4 comments)

nature: Taking a Bath in the Summer Sun - Birds in Battle Creek, Michigan - 06/22/11 04:34 AM
I was out enjoying the weekend on Sunday, and I of course had my camera with me.  I saw this Oriole taking a bath in a little stream at a mini-golf place I was at, and I had to snap some photos.  He looked like he did not have a care in the world, and was really enjoying himself.  His feathers were so colorful, I thought he would make a great post for my blog.  Here are a few of the better shots I took of him.

nature: Wild Turkeys in Southwest Michigan - 04/03/11 01:00 PM
In February I was traveling back from an appointment in Barry County, just north of Battle Creek, and I spotted some wild turkey in a field.  I turned around on the road I was on, and went back and took this video that I posted below.
I find that as I travel around Southwest Michigan as a Realtor, I come across a lot of different wildlife at times, but wild turkeys always facinate me.  Perhaps it is because they appear more elusive than other birds and animals.
So I edited this video a little last night, and posted it on my … (6 comments)

nature: Blue Skies in Southwest Michigan - 04/01/11 04:13 AM
Living in Michigan, we grow accustomed to cold winters.  However, another interesting aspect of living here is that the winter months tend be cloud covered most of the time, so one constantly sees gray skies, gray skies, and gray skies.  It is so commonplace that one finds themselves somewhat energized when the blue skies finally return for even a day or two.
Lately in the past week or two we have seen blue skies more often, which is a great indicator that spring is coming.  Our friends in the Northern part of the State are still getting snow off and on, … (7 comments)

nature: Leafless Trees and Natures Cycle - 03/15/11 04:32 AM
I was driving down the road coming from Grand Rapids Michigan a few weeks ago, and the time of day with the sky behind the leafless trees inspired me to snap a this photo.  I know that winter can be difficult, and when you are outside you tend to want to just get where you want to go.
It is easy to ignore even some of the simple beauty around us.  Leafless trees are not much to look at, but when I think about the annual transformation of Mother Nature, it is quite wonderful.  In a few weeks or maybe a few … (3 comments)
