Happy December 28th!!! : I sense we are all a little tired - 12/28/08 12:20 PM
Do we have the Holiday Blues? We scurried and hurried all around for the Holidays. We wished each other several times "Happy Holidays!" Or "Merry Christmas!" We laughed and joked and had lots of fun!
Maybe, we stayed up too late, ate too much or did too much!  Maybe you had to spend the Holidays, alone ....You are not alone, and many people did it, congratulations you survived!  Some of our friends on the Rain are out of town, or still busy with their families... The New Year is looming... do we really need to make Resolutions that we know, most … (4 comments)

Never Say the "F" word: from the mouths' of babes - 12/26/08 08:40 PM
I was talking to our grandkids yesterday morning, remarking how Santa had eaten all 3 cookies and drank all the milk!

"No wonder he's so fat!" I said. "Can you imagine how many cookies he has to eat on Christmas night?"

They quickly corrected me, "we don't say the "F" (at) word Grandma, we say he's JOLLY".

So now I'm thinking......If we can't say the "F" word....
Packaging labels:   0 grams Trans jollies
Overweight:           Just Jolly
Lazy? :                   Get off of your jolly butt and get busy!
Fudge:                   35% Jolly

Big Surprise: I'VE BEEN SHAKIN' THE WRONG PRESENT! - 12/24/08 12:08 PM
When I was little, my brother and I couldn't keep our hands off the presents.  We would get so excited we could barely stand our bad selves. Even though we got in trouble every time we were caught........... we never missed a chance to shake our presents!

One year I shook and shook this particular present... I couldn't figure out what is was! The curiosity was killing me.

On Christmas morning, much to our surprise, Mom told us: "Mary everything with your name on it actually belongs to Richard, and vice versa, Richard, ‘your' presents belong to Mary"!!

A Dog's letter to Santa: PLEASE no batteries - 12/23/08 09:19 AM
This is our dog Charlie. She has lived in the mountains all of her life. She doesn't know anything about dog parks, groomers, or walking on a leash. She doesn't like to be brushed.  She's a bit of a junkyard dog, but we love her anyway.
No one ever taught her to guard the house, she assigned that job to herself several years ago. Charlie has been known to trap the UPS guy, or the Propane Guy in their trucks, while they patiently(?) wait for us to come out and get her. All we have to do is tell her it is OK, … (13 comments)

WHY YOU SHOULD ALWAYS PREVIEW: Somewhere on the mountain are my lost customers - 12/19/08 04:41 PM
This summer, when I was on floor duty, a couple came in to the office to inquire about vacant land. They had an RV, wanted to camp on the lot, and wanted the lot to already have water.  We checked the current listings and found several that might fit their needs.
"Would you like to go see some of them?" I offered.
Hubby: "No"
"Since we're here we might as well go look at "at least one", said his lovely bride of 35 years.
Hubby': "No"
"Well, we're already all the way up here, so I think we should, we can … (68 comments)

Unanswered Ethics Question:Is it unethical to slap the coffee dude? - 12/17/08 07:52 AM
I was on my way to my mandatory Ethics class yesterday, when I decided to drop by MickeyD's for a cup of coffee. I had to leave the house at o'dark thirty and drive 50 miles in 5 degree temps, but, I just was going along with the day- you've gotta do what you've gotta do! I thought I looked pretty OK, all things considered.
When I first walked in the door, I saw a group of "elderly gentlemen" drinking their morning coffee -  ‘overheard the word "cemetery" - Yes, I suspected those old guys met every morning to shoot the breeze.  How … (85 comments)

How a cup of Coffee might help sell your house - 12/14/08 05:50 PM
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to preview a couple of new listings with the listing agents in my office.
One house was vacant and cold. I mean temperature cold- it was freezing outside and the heat had been turned way down, or off inside the house.
The other house was so warm and inviting. It was beautifully decorated and immaculate. It smelled like Christmas. The owner knew we were coming, and put on a fresh pot of coffee, before she left her nice and warm cozy home for our preview. We walked through every room, commenting and complimenting, … (16 comments)

Success?: Which wolf would you feed? - 12/14/08 11:52 AM
The Two Wolves Within An old Cherokee told his grandson ‘Two wolves rage within us, One is Evil, it has many names: Anger, envy, jealousy, Sorrow, regret, greed, Arrogance, self-pity, guilt, Resentment, inferiority, lies, False-pride, superiority and ego.   The other is Good, it has many hues: Joy, peace, love, hope, Serenity, humility, kindness, Benevolence, empathy, generosity, Truth, compassion and faith.' The grandson thought for a minute And asked: ‘Which Wolf wins?' The Cherokee simply replied: ‘The one you feed!'   Author: Zoya Zaidi Aligarh (UP), India

WRONG TURN turns into FUN - 12/11/08 01:41 PM

  Wrong Turn, Turns into fun.
My daughter, her friend and our two grandchildren were supposed to come by my office; from there we were going to the Craft Fair at the Greening of Red Feather. (Grandpa was going to stay home, watch the dogs and the football game).
I waited and waited for them to come and then the call came. They were stuck in the snow on Kinnikinnik!
I left the office to go find them, and see if my car could push them out.
There are few paved roads in the Village … (11 comments)

How Red Feather Lakes got its name. - 12/10/08 03:25 PM
How did Red Feather Lakes get its name?
The story as I remember reading it goes something like this: In the late 1920's, the area that is now known as Red Feather Lakes, was designated as wetlands.  Smart developers who saw the beauty all around them decided to make Red Feather Lakes a resort area. They began digging a series of ditches, and lakes.  Jake Mitchell had first diverted water from Upper North Pine in 1888 to what is now Hiawatha Lake.
This small town was sparsely inhabited with hard working, industrious and visionary mountain folks.  There was a general store, a … (2 comments)

New Colorado legislation regarding water wells: So you have an unregistered well – now what do you do? - 12/09/08 07:12 PM
Effective January 1, 2009, The Division of Water Resources must receive a well transfer form for all small capacity wells or domestic exempt wells that are sold (or transferred) in any real estate transaction. All transferred water rights need to be reported, except those water rights represented by stock in a ditch company.
House Bill 08-1014 was passed by the Colorado General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Ritter and will assist the Division in more accurate recordkeeping  regarding well ownership.  Current information is necessary for the State to notify well owners of any health, safety, water right or stewardship … (8 comments)

It's Not ME- it's YOU : My "Dear John letter" to my camera - 12/08/08 05:06 PM
Dear Camera,
Thank you for taking such great snapshots of my family, and for being there for me, for the last six years at every special event in my life. You did a great job capturing all of our vacations, the fresh, new beautiful faces of our grandchildren and that Mother's day present wrapped in comic paper that was my Brother Richard's trademark wrapping.

You saw the look on my husband's face when he got his new Telecaster!  You've caught our grandkids dancing and playing guitar and having so much fun.

The times I forgot to take you, I really … (2 comments)

The new UPSIDE DOWN : Canned goods? - 12/07/08 09:56 PM

Upside down used to be no big deal :
Pineapple upside down cake
hanging upside down on the monkey bars- "look Mom! No hands!"
people even grow tomatoes upside down!
Some folks have upside down Christmas Trees......(.inverted = creative ?)
These days, when we hear upside down we instantly think about the thousands of people who owe more than their home is worth.

Most new car owners are upside down....

Unless you are a possum, or a monkey, a kid on the monkey bars, or on a ride at an amusement park, upside down is really … (13 comments)

"It must be my lucky day!" I said to the Tow Truck Driver. - 12/02/08 12:08 PM
"It must be my lucky day", I said to the Tow Truck Driver!
The tow truck driver looked at me as if I were a crazy person!  In the snowy field, 20 feet off of the icy road, surrounded by barbed wire was my trusty 1996 Blazer!  An unexpected freezing March storm had come in, and the road was a sheet of ice.  I had been driving slowing down the mountain, through the "S" curves... slow and steady... then on the flat stretch by Hansen's ranch, my car suddenly turned into Stephen King's "Christine"!  Knowing I hadn't done one thing different, … (24 comments)

A Holiday Tradition: The Greening of Red Feather and Christmas trees - 12/01/08 10:19 AM
The Annual Greening of Red Feather, in Red Feather Lakes, CO.
Kicking off the Holiday Season, with arts and crafts, over 35 vendors will display their wares on December 6th and 7th at the annual Greening of Red Feather Lakes in the high country of Northern Colorado.
Pottery, cutlery, wood crafts, carvings, photography, jewelry, hand- crafted Christmas items, paintings, home-baked goodies, Christmas wreaths and Homemade Soap.  I remember buying several bars of this soap a few years back.  There are so many wonderful scents - "Wood Smoke" was one of my favorites.
In the Library there will be a children's craft … (4 comments)
