Ghosts, Goblins and things that go Meow in the night - 10/29/09 11:53 PM
In ancient times, people believed that November 1st was the beginning of a new year.
In between the old year and the new year (October 31st  ), they believed the souls of the dead, including ghosts, goblins and witches returned to mingle with the living.
In order to scare away the evil spirits, people would wear masks and light bonfires.
But, Not all ghosts are evil!
We lived with one once in Gunnison. She was a funny little soul who enjoyed knocking small thing off shelves, and making the baby rocker rock back and forth.  We were never afraid of … (47 comments)

Down & Dirty in Red Feather Lakes - 10/27/09 09:10 AM
I'm reading "The Associate" by John Grisham, I love his books.
The main character, Kyle McAvoy has a dilemma, by trying to keep a secret from the past he is being blackmailed into far greater unethical behavior.  I'm only on Chapter 10, so I have no idea how it will end, but I want him to just face the music and do the right thing.
Of course, this is what the story is all about.
In real life when we make a mistake, we need to own up to it, try and make amends, or fix the problem- only then can we move … (29 comments)

Skin in the Game - or not; Just my thoughts - 10/18/09 09:53 PM
In 1975, barefoot and in cut-off blue jeans (way too short, in hindsight, I might add), I walked into the Farmers Home Administration office, all of 23 years old with a baby on my hip.
"Is this the place I can apply for a loan to buy a house?"
Betty, (I will never forget her), said "YES!"
From the very beginning, she wanted to help me realize my dream.  My husband and I had to go to an orientation about (1) how the system worked,(2) what being a homeowner involved, and after loan approval,(3) we had to find a property that … (45 comments)

Red Feather Lakes Elementary School - 10/13/09 11:06 PM
Can you imagine a little town without a school?
Melissa Zavala did a post about the Historic Schoolhouse in Encinitas.  The school was built in 1883 because a family who settled there (population 22) needed a schoolhouse for their children.  Even then, the importance of a school was understood.
Red Feather Lakes needs a schoolhouse - in fact we already have an excellent school,
and the District is thinking of closing it, to save money!

I have to wonder about the District School Board ----What are they thinking??!!

Are you a Space Explorer? Part Two- Vacant Land - 10/08/09 03:47 PM
Before walking the property lines, acreage is a difficult concept for some vacant land purchasers.
The other day, I was walking a lot with a buyer who said, "It's easier to visualize 35 or 40 acres, instead of 2.5 acres."
"What is 2.5 acres anyway!!?"  This buyer is unusual, because most people cannot visualize 40 acres.
An acre is 43560 square feet; an average (Old Town Fort Collins, CO) city lot is 50 X 200, or 10,000 sq feet.

.
Let's say that 2.5 acres equals almost 11 city lots.  Is that easier to visualize?  Can we walk down a … (28 comments)

Dumpster Diving and Drunken Bears - 10/07/09 07:47 PM
People are friendly at Ponderosa Realty.  One of my broker’s slogans is “The coffee is always on”. We welcome you into our office; we love to talk about, and show people our beautiful Red Feather Lakes area.
We don’t welcome the bears though, and keep our dumpster chained and locked.  While we are a friendly group, it’s just necessary to keep some “customers” away!
A few weeks ago, a bear didn’t care about the chain, or the steel lid, or the ½ steel rod – she just reached in and bent it back enough to get a paw in!

Are you a “Space Explorer”? Part One- Square Footage - 10/05/09 09:52 AM
Are you a "Space Explorer"?
I'm not talking about space like Carl Sagan's "billions of billions of stars type of space", but the space we live in; the square footage of our home and the size of the land on which it sits.
Some buyers I've worked with recently might be space explorers.  They selected a home from the internet that was 3800 square feet, but once inside the home - it seemed way too big.
I listed a home around 1400 square feet.  Showing feedback from several buyers was that the house was too small.
It's good to be an … (43 comments)

Find the right fit: Shopping for jeans or a new home - 10/02/09 12:40 PM
In Red Feather Lakes, getting dressed up means putting on the pair of jeans with a dark wash. LOL!
Tomorrow, I'm on a mission to go buy new jeans.  The ones I have now, are fairly worn, getting a little ragged on the edges and one pair even has HOLES near the top of the back pockets (definitely have to wear a jacket with those.)
I love my old jeans.
My memories of the last jean shopping experience are awful.
The same size in different styles never fits the same.  Some so tight, can't zip or sit and others are too baggy.
