Since its early days as a town over 100 years ago, Maggie Valley has attracted people looking for a cool alternative to the summer heat of the surrounding southern states. One of the highest valleys east of the Mississippi, Maggie Valley and the surrounding mountains are often 10 to 15 degrees cooler than even neighboring Asheville.
