summit county: All choked up in Colorado - but still cheering! - 10/25/07 05:35 PM
Yup, there was some serious choking going on in Boston last night.  Even I was choking, choking back the tears as the Rockies rotated through their pitchers without any difference in results.  They couldn't quiet the bats of Boston.  No matter where Boston hit the ball there wasn't a Rockies guy around to make the play.  They didn't do much better offensively either, although they were facing Beckett.  No matter how big a loss, it is just a loss.  In Colorado we are hoping that history repeats itself and the team that gets spanked in game one, wins all the marbles.
Coloradoans haven't … (24 comments)

summit county: Gore Trail Condos in Silverthorne - 10/11/07 03:44 PM
Gore Trail condos are located at the top of Wildernest at an altitude of approximately 9720 feet.  It's 2.3 miles up Ryan Gulch Road, which starts out as Wildernest Road from Highway 9.  It's a great location at the top of Wildernest with spectacular mountain views from the parking lot.  Just around the corner is the trailhead for the Buffalo Mountain.  I have hiked that and it is a fabulous hike.  The first time I hiked it we saw three mountain goats and a ptarmigan!
There are 6 buildings and a total of 76 units.  Buildings 1-4 have 14 units each and … (3 comments)

summit county: Mohawk Lakes, A Hike to Remember - 06/27/07 05:48 PM
Many of the hikes I have done in Summit County have some mining activity nearby.  I expect a lot of the trails we use are there because of the previous mining activity.  Sometimes we see tailings, sometimes its old mining equipment, maybe building ruins or the mine itself.  On this hike to Mohawk Lakes it was all of that!
First, we came upon the cabin.  The story, according to author Perry Eberhart, is that a hermit lived alone in this deserted mining camp in the early 1900s.  He was discovered dead in his cabin around 1920 and his only companion, a loyal … (4 comments)

summit county: Hello from Colorado - 04/23/07 06:45 PM
I am the business manager and licensed agent for the Mountain Living team, in Frisco, Colorado.  Our town was named by miners who came to Colorado from California during the gold rush.  Naming places after their hometowns must have made them feel less homesick.  Many of the old mining claims around here have women's names, as the miners named them after girlfriends and wives.  Frisco still has many old historic structures but it is now a mix of vacation homes, condos, gift shops and restaurants.  We are only seven minutes from Copper Mountain, so we have a ski area of our own … (3 comments)
