The South Montgomery County YMCA is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge. As part of the 10 year celebration, the YMCA is inviting all alumni teams, dating back to 1999, to join in on the fun again. Open registration for all alumni teams is now thru June 30th. The 2008 YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge, "Presented by Hewitt" is scheduled for September 26th - 28th at Northshore Park in The Woodlands. More than 90 teams are expected to participate.

Are you looking for a FUN, Easy and Unique Team Building Event for your business or organization? The YMCA has just the event for you . . . The YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge. The YMCA makes it so EASY to participate. This unique team building event is designed to build community spirit among corporations, civic groups and community organizations. It's much more than "beating the other team." It is the camaraderie, visiting and playing with old friends, meeting new friends, hard work and feeling good about it. Who can enter? Teams from corporations, service organizations, civic and community groups, churches, schools, neighborhoods are invited to participate. A team is composed of a minimum of 20 members but no more than 30. Each team roster must have a minimum of 5 females and participants must be at least 18 years of age. High School teams, 9th - 12th grade, are eligible to participate in the Sunday morning bracket: 8:00am - Noon.

The Dragon Boat Races are the main event. Dragon boats are forty foot long, extremely, colorful dragon headed canoes and weigh over 1800 pounds. In addition to the dragon boat races, each team will have the opportunity to participate in five other fun team-building activities. These activities will vary and will include problem-solving, non-athletic as well as physically challenging. There will be Something for Everyone regardless of their fitness level or athletic abilities! By popular demand, the returning events include the popular YMCA giant inflatables: Human Foosball and Bounce Volleyball and DodgeBall along with a few surprises for the 2008 event.

Wilshire Homes recently teamed up with Standard Renewable Energy to build a solar powered home in the neighborhood of Arrow Canyon the Village of Creekside Park. Wilshire is the first production builder in the Greater Houston area to offer a solar energy system as a standard option.

The new Wilshire model at 7 North Arrow Canyon Circle is the popular Kensington floor plan and features a state-of-the-art 3.5 kW solar photovoltaic solar energy system. Solar panels, mounted discreetly on the home's roof, convert sunlight into electricity, providing a clean alternative to fossil fuelgenerated electricity. The solar energy system integrates seamlesssly with the homes' current utility power, which continues to provide power when needed (for instance at night or in cloudy weather). The solar energy system can reduce the homeowner's annual electric bills by up to 40 percent, requires virtually no maintenance, and is designed to withstand up to 1 inch hail and 150 mph winds.

"The energy produced by this 3.5 kW solar energy system will prevent over 7,000 pounds of CO2 emissions every year, which has the same environmental impact as planting 376 tree saplings," says Brent Sailor, vice president of sales for Standard Renewable Energy. "You'd have to leave your car in the garage for 200 days each year to have the same reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions."

Sales to date this year are brisk in the premier, gated community of Carlton Woods in The Woodlands.

A total of 23 homes have sold in the past six months, at an average sales price of $1.5 million, compared to a total of 29 sold in all of 2007. Eight homesites, at an average price of $475,000, have sold in the past three months.
