In response to our neighbors, following the disastrous tornadoes, a few Jeter School second graders teamed up to work a lemonade stand last Saturday on 4th Avenue in Opelika, donating every penny of the proceeds to relief funds. Passersby appeared to be donating generously for a cup of cool refreshment in the 90-degree heat, all too aware of the devastation that our Alabama neighbors are facing.

Since the tradition began in the 1940's, the iconic oak tree at the infamous Toomers Corner has been the centerpiece of every victory party in the streets, as fans flocked its branches with toilet paper, celebrating winning games. The tree at Toomer's Corner has been tragically poisoned.
While steps have been taken to save this and other oak trees that were poisioned with an herbicide (known Spike 80DF), fans are grieving for this member of the community, known as the tree at Toomers Corner, and praying for a miracle.

On this MEMORIAL DAY, May 25th, everyone is invited to the Auburn Mayor's Memorial Day BREAKFAST at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. This traditioanl event, now in its 11th year, honors our country's servicemen---the REAL American Idols...the unsung heroes who fought unflinchingly for our freedoms, the soldiers who sacrificed their lives, and the veterans who carry on the legacy with their lives, contributing their voice of remembrance and reason to their communities.
Tickets can be purchased for $20 each. All proceeds will be contributed to the Auburn Veteran's Memorial fund.

I attended the recent Commencement exercise of Auburn University graduates, as it included my daughter, Hilary. The Commencement Address was given by former pro athlete and an AU alumnus, Vincent "BO" Jackson. It was a touching moment when he had all of the graduates stand, look towards where their family might be sitting in the bleachers, and say "THANK YOU" to their moms. The graduation also happend to be on Mother's Day weekend.
As for my daughter, I couldn't be more proud of this young woman's perseverence, fortitude and poetic heart of worldly compassion. As any parent knows that has attended a … (10 comments)

You won't believe what happened yesterday---it was like a dream!
I live in a village development of apartment-style homes in Auburn, Alabama. One of the best things about my end unit is that I have a decent view of the lake, a much appreciated amenity when I’m working at my computer and able to enjoy the view.
Within a one-mile radius of where I live is a movie theatre, a shopping mall, a row of restaurants, some new subdivisions, a medical park and Lee Scott Academy. This is anything but uncongested countryside!
