pasadena: TV Staging Shows Vs Realty Reality - 03/27/11 04:49 PM
TV Staging Shows VS Real Estate Reality
I was holding an open house today at a new listing and there was a good turnout --- over 50 groups of people.   The house is in a great neighborhood, good curb appeal and a nice lot.  It is a small home(about 700 square feet) and has been tenant occupied for a number of years.  My out-of-the-area owner did not want to do an extensive renovation of the property -- make it as easy and quick as possible.
A cleaning crew tore up carpet, hauled trash, washed windows and completed some light cleaning.  Not as much as … (7 comments)

Sometimes Just Slow Down, Take a Moment and Enjoy The View
It was a bit of a hectic day and not everything was going my way(don't you just hate that???).  I was going back to the office from an appointment and traveling down Wilson Street in Pasadena -- not far from Caltech.
I was stopped at a traffic light and saw a young man and two older women standing in front of a simple yet beautiful display of color in front of a condominium complex.   They were busy taking photos of each other.  I thought to myself --- I am missing this … (5 comments)

Starting Friday, March 18, 2011 and continuing until Sunday, March 27, 2011 residents of Pasadena, California will not be able to water their lawns.
This is due to a seismic retrofit by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.   As a result of this work, water supply to Pasadena and other neighboring cities will be cut off and the Pasadena City Council agreed to implement a ban.  Before the shut-off, Pasadena will lift existing restrictions to allow people to water any day.

Pasadena CA Condo & Townhome Sales Report/Market Update - February 2011
I was intrigued to read a report from another area of the country where the author described the least expensive homes in her market.  An interesting take on real estate, don't you think?   Well, this report for Pasadena CA is a recap of condos and townhomes currently on the market for sale, in escrow and sold during the month of February 2011 according to multiple listing service sources.
There are currently 218 condos and townhomes on the market for sale in Pasadena.  This does not take into account every property but … (0 comments)

I Rather Not Be Number One -- Thank You Very Much
Today, the Los Angeles Times informed readers as of Friday, California is number one in the country.  Oh, so what, you say?   Californians are noted for boasting of our status as number one in soooo many things.
I Rather Not Be Number One -- Thank You Very Much
You see, on Friday, California passed every state in the country to have the highest price for gasoline in the country.   California even passed Hawaii and Alaska, typically known for the highest fuel prices in the United States.   According to the Los Angeles … (16 comments)

Congratulations Caltech -- Pride of Pasadena
During last week's State of the Union address, President Obama praised the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena as one of the nation's leaders in sustainable energy based on its work related to sun-based renewable energy.
The President called for renewed efforts to break our country's dependence on traditional sources of energy and be the first country to put one million electric cars on the road by 2015.
The California Institute of Technology in Pasadena is a highly regarded private university with a strong emphasis on science and engineering with an enrollment of less than 1000 undergraduate and 1200 … (13 comments)

pasadena: When The Answer is not "Plastics, Benjamin, Plastics" - 11/28/10 11:38 AM

Do you remember the movie and play The Graduate?
Recent college graduate Ben is approached by a obnoxious businessman in the film
"The Graduate"
and told just one thing:
Plastics
How was that for advice in 1967? Plastics is a big field.
Would Ben become a plastics magnate
(if he hadn't slept with Mrs. Robinson, crashed her daughter Elaine's wedding & run away with her on a bus)
?

Now it's 2010 (with 2011 approaching quickly)

You may have read, watched or heard the news story concerning the CQ Press 17th annual survey of the most dangerous cities - St Lous, Missouri ranks as the worst city(read most dangerous) in America(for comparison purposes and using specific data).  Colonie, New York ranks as the country's safest according to the report.
The list consists of 400 cities.
Locally, Pasadena ranks 290 and according to the report -23.26% below the national average.  Alhambra ranks 301 while the city of Los Angeles is shown as 158.

pasadena: Danger Will Robinson! Opportunity or Danger - What Do You Think? - 11/21/10 05:30 PM
Beyond the headline, More Americans Likely to Rent the author(Mary Umberger, Los Angeles Times via Chicago Tribune, November 21, 2010) wrote that the key word of the year was "cautious".   I say the better word is OPPORTUNITY.  Where some will see doom, gloom and all sorts of negatives - why not look towards the positive?
She writes in part...
while Americans are not giving up the American Dream, and while about 84% said owning makes more sense, the percentage who said their next home would probably be a rental has grown(33% from 30%  June/July 2010 report vs a April 2010 report).  Renting makes more … (14 comments)

Realtor Responsibility - Condominium Lockbox-Mania
I know I cannot be the only Realtor with this pet peeve.   Today, while previewing/reviewing condominiums for an upcoming client, I came across the bane of many buyer agents----searching for the condominium but only after attempting to find the lockbox.   Even in a smaller complex, with only one active(or pending) listing...there were no less than five lockboxes.....all without any unit or agent identificiation.  So I opened each lockbox to play the "is this the one???" key that will open the unit I hope to sell my client.  Oh my, wouldn't it be easy to sell if the lockbox had … (2 comments)
