HUD & VA To Provide Permanent Housing and Support To Our Homeless Vets
HUDS Secretary Shaun Donovan and Dept of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki made the announcement today July 14th, 2011 that HUD will provide $46.2 million to public housing agencies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to provide assistance toward permanent housing for homeless veterans. The US Treasury announced that begining in 2012 you will only be able to buy Series EE savings bonds through TreasuryDirect, which is a free online bond buying site. The US Treasury said that this move will result in a taxpayers savings of approx $70 million over the first five years. Current holders of paper bonds that will mature after 2012 can convert these bond to electronic form.
