Although it was with sadness that we bid goodbye to Picarelli's, we are waiting with quiet anticipation for the Grand Opening of "The Crooked Duck". I pass by this place twice a day on my way to work and have been watching the improvements taking place. The "red, white and blue" was out in full force this morning in the Los Altos area at the intersection of Garford and Montair. This annual "American-as-apple-pie" event seems to be growing in not only popularity but also in the amount of decorations on each bike, stroller, and person. Long Beach Bike Festival May 13 and 14Festivities kick off Friday evening in front of the Carousal at the Pike with a showing of Michael Bauch's film "Riding with the Dutch" at 8:00 pm. Prior to the movie there will be a tribute to Mark Bixby who was a strong advocate for biking programs within our city.Saturday the Festival runs from 9 to 4 pm in the Rainbow Harbor area of the Pike. Over 3,000 participates will cross the finish line with proceeds going to Miller's Children Hospital of Long Beach. I took a trip to New York City’s SOHO district this morning and it took me just 20 minutes to get there! There are two lofts currently on the market in the Temple Lofts, which an adaptive re-use development of the historic Masonic Temple at 8th and Locust in downtown Long Beach. It was built in 1927 in the Greek Revival style and designed by architects Parker O. Wright and Frances H. Gentry who had distinguished careers in the Long Beach.
