mls wwwmicheleweselakecom: Ritchie Mill in Edmonton - 04/19/11 03:54 PM
Robert Ritchie (10170 Saskatchewan Drive) Robert Ritchie arrived in Strathcona from Ontario early in 1892 and within a year, he had built and began operating a flour mill near the end of the Calgary and Edmonton Railway line. The Ritchie Mill, built in 1893, is the oldest surviving mill in Alberta and possibly the earliest of its kind in Canada.
The mill, at 10170 Saskatchewan Drive, was one of the first mills in the west to be equipped with steam-powered steel rollers and in its heyday, farmers with grain-laden wagons lined up on the street all the way to Whyte Ave. … (0 comments)

mls wwwmicheleweselakecom: History of Strathcona Edmonton - 04/19/11 03:45 PM
The First Steps of Strathcona Strathcona took its first steps over 117 years ago when the Calgary and Edmonton Railway Company completed its line from the Canadian Pacific Railway line in Calgary to a terminus south of the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Despite pressure to cross the river and end the line at Edmonton, the company wanted to monopolize the benefits of future land sales and so created a new settlement they called South Edmonton. With it they developed a new commercial centre - one that would soon overtake Edmonton.
Property was purchased from landowners, rails were laid and the … (2 comments)

mls wwwmicheleweselakecom: Edmonton Market as of April 5, 2011 - 04/19/11 08:12 AM
Edmonton, April 5, 2011: REALTORS® expect the local real estate market to follow a well-worn annual sales track. However, like the stock market, large external forces can skew the market. In 2010, the threat of increased mortgage rates and a change to mortgage qualification rules accelerated sales in the first quarter and caused a sales slump in the following months that took all summer to work through. This year there are no external influences on the market and it is operating normally again.
According to the REALTORS® Association of Edmonton, residential sales in the first quarter are normal for this time of … (0 comments)
