road noise: Avondale Road Work - Will The New Grinding Technique Reduce Noise? - 09/16/09 09:27 PM
Are you curious about the road work on Avondale? The committee for A Better Avondale has been hard at work over the last year meeting with DOT and county executives to get the road improved and the county to address the road noise (read more @ www.ABetterAvondale.org). So what are they doing? King County Department of Transportation has begun the work on a test patch between NE 144th and NE 151st St. They are currently working on the northbound lane (causing a temporary shut down of the lane) and will begin work on the southbound lane approximately next Wednesday. Have you seen these signs along Avondale? Have you wondered what it is all about? This is a fabulous example of a people coming together for a common cause and working to make a difference! Their goals are to improve the safety and decrease the noise along Avondale. Since May they have successfully launched a website, conducted meetings that have been attended by - regional politicians and Avondale is now on the project lists for several departments. So what are the goals? Increase Safety & Reduce Noise - specifically by Getting the road repaved with Asphalt Rubber which is quieter

Citizens for a Quieter AvondaleLast night was the kick off of a grass roots compaign to make a positive change for many homeowners who live along Avondale Road and many more who drive down Avondale on a regular basis. The issue? Noise & Safety. The desired change? New pavement material that will reduce the noise and improve the safety. Any type of asphalt will reduce the noise from what we currently have and the goal is to get something even quieter like Asphalt-Rubber. The problem? As you might guess - it is funding.
