Express pay your City of Sacramento Utility Bills!

Paying your utiliity bill in the City of Sacramento just got easier! The Department of Utilities recently launched its ExpressPay service to allow customers the ability to make one-time payment online. Customers will receive a leaflet in their January bills explaining bill paymentoptions. But I posted info below:

The City of Sacramento Department of Utilities has launched its new online bill payment option, ExpressPay. The ExpressPay system can be accessed from the Department's webpage and allows customers to make a one-time payment with their Visa, Mastercard, debit card or bank account number.
ExpressPay is the first online bill payment service offered by the City of Sacramento. The Department of Utilities also accepts payments over the phone, in person at 1395 35th Avenue and via AutoPay which automatically deducts money from a checking or savings account to pay monthly utility bills. More information about options for paying a City of Sacramento utility bill can be found at www.cityofsacramento.org/utilities or by calling 808-5454.

First West Nile Case in California...Time to watch out for Mosquitos!

The first case of west nile virus was confirmed in California last week. Time for everyone to do their part to stop the proliferation of mosquitos. Best way you can help, is to drain any standing water in your yards. Make sure you store unused planting pots upside down and pour out any standing water you find elsewhere. Make sure to check places that may get watered from sprinklers during the night. Also if you know of any stagnant green pools in your area, let the Sacramento Yolo County Mosquito Vector control know by calling 916-685-1022 or visiting their website at www.fightthebite.org.

See the notice below from the Department of Health Services for more information. K

STATE HEALTH OFFICER ANNOUNCES FIRST CONFIRMED HUMAN CASE OF WEST NILE VIRUS IN CALIFORNIA THIS YEAR
Jun 20, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SACRAMENTO - A 21-year-old Kern County woman has tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV) infection, the first reported human case in California this year, State Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Horton announced today. The woman's symptoms include fever, headache and body aches. She was not hospitalized.

"This first confirmed illness in California due to West Nile virus reminds us that we are moving into the high-risk season," Horton said. "The most important step people can take to prevent exposure to West Nile virus is to protect themselves from being bitten by a mosquito. We are also requesting the public to report dead birds to assist state and local agencies with surveillance efforts."

The positive test was reported to the Kern County Department of Public Health by a local blood bank where the patient had donated blood. She subsequently developed symptoms.

"Special precautions are taken to test all blood donations for West Nile virus, so Californians can be assured that blood supplies are safe," Horton said.

To date this year, WNV has been detected in 13 of California's 58 counties in 57 dead birds, 18 mosquito samples, two sentinel chickens and one horse. In 2006, a total of 278 human WNV cases, including seven deaths, were reported in the 46 of 54 counties that detected WNV activity.

WNV is transmitted to humans and animals through a mosquito bite from a mosquito that has been infected by feeding on an infected bird. Although the risk of serious illness to most people is low, less than 1 percent of individuals will develop a more serious illness.

Horton reminded Californians of three simple ways to protect themselves from WNV:

DEET - Apply inspect repellent containing DEET, picaradin or oil of lemon eucalyptus according to label instructions. Repellents keep the mosquitoes from biting you. DEET can be used safely on infants and children 2 months of age and older.

DAWN AND DUSK - Mosquitoes that carry WNV bite in the early morning and evening so it is important to wear repellent at this time. Make sure that your doors and windows have tight-fitting screens to keep out mosquitoes. Repair or replace screens with tears or holes.

DRAIN - Mosquitoes lay their eggs on standing water. Eliminate all sources of standing water on your property, including flower pots, old car tires, rain gutters and pet bowls. If you have a pond, use mosquito fish or commercially available products to eliminate mosquito larvae.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has invested a total of $15 million over the last two years to enhance mosquito control efforts in California. This funding has supplemented the resources of existing mosquito control programs statewide and expanded efforts in areas of the state not covered to control WNV. This investment in equipment and other products to control mosquitoes continues to benefit mosquito control efforts this year.

For more information about WNV, visit www.westnile.ca.gov. In addition to reporting all dead birds, Californians are encouraged to report dead tree squirrels. The Web site includes information on the most common birds found with WNV. Dead birds and squirrels can be reported on the Web site or by calling (877) 968-2473.

New Park for South Sacramento!

24th Street Bypass Park, a Green Oasis Located in South Sacramento,
Opens for Public Use

Sacramento, California, April 4, 2007*24th Street Bypass Park is open
to the public after completion of Phase 1 of its development. The
recently completed first phase of the park not only provides South
Sacramento with 4.5 acres of additional green space, it is also a fitting
gateway into the Meadowview community.

Visitors to 24th Street Bypass Park will experience what can only be
described as a green oasis. The park's landscape includes sloping
meadows that provoke thought and reflection, open turf, colorful trees, and
grasses and plants that are currently in full-bloom. 24th Street
Bypass Park is a park the surrounding communities can be proud of.

"Several years ago, the Park Master Plan indicated a deficit in park
space in South Sacramento. The 24th Street bypass is one of several
sites we bought to address this deficit. Seniors at Sacramento Manor,
kids at Martin Luther King Library, as well as the students from Goethe
Middle School and the public have a beautiful new park setting to relax
and play in," said Councilmember Bonnie Pannell.

24th Street Bypass Park features such amenities as a covered picnic
area with benches, turf volleyball courts, comfortable seating areas, and
a water fountain. These amenities are all linked by a concrete walkway
that allows visitors to leisurely stroll through the park. Because
24th Street Bypass Park is located along 24th Street, the park also
presents motorists with wonderful views as they travel along 24th Street
between Florin Road and Meadowview Road.

When Phase 2 construction is completed, the park will consist of two
sites on both sides of 24th Street, totaling 7.5 acres of park space. At
that time, the park will expand its list of amenities to include a
bocce court, more meadows, new landscaping, additional seating, and fitness
stations.

24th Street Bypass Park is located at 7300 24th Street, south of Florin
Road and north of Meadowview Road.

Media inquiries about 24th Street Bypass Park can be forwarded to
Hindolo Brima, Public Information Officer, Department of Parks and
Recreation, (916) 808-5972.

After touring over 15 homes this weekend, 5 of them have already gone pending! Time to let those buyers know the market is starting to turn in the right direction. The days of buyers being able to wait for prices to drop and low balling the seller are over. I have seen 2 properties go pending within the 1st day of being on the market! Agents have told me they have multiple offers once again. Time to let sellers know the buyers are back and let buyers know they cant wait around anymore.
