It is now up to April's hoteliers to approve a financing district where hotels in Downtown San Diego would contribute about a 3 percent tax collected on room bills. A meeting was held Nov 29th, 2011 in Downtown San Diego where the San Diego Unified Port District gave conditional approval to help fund the proposed San Diego Convention Center Expansion Project located in the Marina District. The first out of three workshops about the USS Midway Museum’s suggestion for a new park space at the Navy Pier Park was held the other day and there were a couple of different opinions discussed.
As many of you already know…the proposal includes a 500 foot high wing sculpture to be located at the tip right before the water line in the Marina District. A few participants were positive to the suggestion and thought that the sculpture could become an icon image for Downtown San Diego while other were more on the negative path on saying that the sculpture would be outrageous.

The new proposed park space for the Navy Pier in the Marina District in Downtown San Diego is now moving forward with the USS Midway Museum’s invite for three workshops in the coming weeks. The workshop is open for the pubic and you can here discuss the concept for a park and iconic architectural elements on the pier…for example the proposed 500 tall wing sculpture.

I was pleasantly surprised a few weeks ago when I walked out of my Downtown San Diego Loft in theMarina District and saw this big yellow 16 passenger contraption sitting on the sidewalk along Market Street. I walked up to it and saw that every seat had its own set of pedals…it kind of looked like a moving bar.

The Center City Development Board approved the concepts for the Master Plan and Phase 1 for Children’s Park located in Downtown’s Marina District across the street from the Children’s Museum and Pinnacle between First and Front Streets. The Children’s Park originally opened in 2008.
Phase 1 will leave the existing pond as-is and will create a separate interactive water feature. As I am sure you already know…the resale market is taking over in Downtown San Diego. Going from a total Developer sale market to the pure resale market is something we have never seen before. The graph above is showing us Condos & Lofts sold by the 7 different neighborhoods in Downtown during the 1st quarter of 2011. The East Village/Ballpark District is totally on first place with 73 homes sold where the biggest amount were resales. The Columbia District, the Little Italy District and the Marina District are not far apart with a total of 47 vs. 49 vs. 46 homes sold but still a long way behind the East Village.
