apex: Cary NC: DJ's Berry Patch Brings us..... PEACHES - 05/13/11 02:37 PM
Peaches! Peaches! Peaches! Peaches! Yes, Peaches! Fresh from the North Carolina Sandhills. Kickin' it up a notch in Apex, DJ's Berry Patch has 'em! I popped in today for another bucket of fresh ripe red strawberries, and there I saw the peaches on display. What a nice surprise! You may ask, "So, did you buy any peaches?" And I might answer, "Mais, oui." Well, actually, it would probably sound more like, "HUH? OF COURSE I DID!" Maybe I get excited by little things...... See, once I get over the initial rush of fresh sweet Strawberries, North Carolina Sandhills Peaches take

apex: So I'm thinking it may be time to look for a new camera... - 04/22/11 11:56 PM
A new camera? Possibly a DSLR? It is unfortunate, as my point and shooter, a Kodak P880, has a lot of features I have hardly learned to use. My favorite feature is the 24-140 zoom lens. That wide angle has been great help in real estate photo shoots. But, it is a 2005 model, and there have been some advances in the last 6 years that are worth considering. And I think the P880 is losing some performance. Maybe that should be expected, as I am at nearly 10,000 actuations, on a camera I purchased used. It blacks out from time to time,

apex: A Keller Williams Referral, with an assist credited to Active Rain! - 04/08/11 11:32 PM
ActiveRain works! I had been in correspondence with a young family planning a move to the Cary or Apex NC area. A move without a specific time, but it was getting time to move. From far out of state. And I got an email one Saturday night in January. An email that positively oozed stress. "My husband took a job in Greensboro. He starts next week. Can you work with us there? (I was honored at the request!) He is flying in Monday..." I feel your pain. It is palpable.. And I can help. Since Greensboro is 4 counties and an hour and a half

apex: Apex, NC: Losing Borders Books is a Sad Development - 04/04/11 10:00 PM
Good-Bye to Borders Books I remember the first time my wife, the obsessive reader, saw a huge bookstore. "Kid in a candy store" comes to mind. Wide-eyed, slack jawed Joy! There is nothing like a good bookstore. Nothing smells better. Intrigue and Information abound at arms' reach at every step. Thousands and thousands of books for the buying, or for just taking the cheapskate perusal. And losing a bookstore is a sad event. I was in Beaver Creek this evening, and popped into Borders to check out the Store Closing sale. The deals on a couple of books were OK,

apex: Spring Forward? "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? - 03/12/11 09:44 PM
Does Anybody Really Care... About Time?" Thank you Chicago Transit Authority for raising that pithy question in 1970. It was only a few years earlier, in 1966, that Daylight Savings Time became a permanent fixture in the time-keeping paradigm in the United States. And only in 1883 did time become standardized, and Time Zones created.Coincidental to the CTA classic rock hit, it was the railroads who made that happen. Superior Time Management, I would say. Prior to 1883, every village and hamlet and city had their own time of day. It may have been Noon in Raleigh, NC, and

apex: Searching for Golf Community Homes in Cary, NC, and Nearby Towns - 02/14/11 10:49 PM
Searching for golf community homes in and around Cary, NC, is easy. The Triangle MLS offers listing agents the opportunity to designate a community golf course as a feature for any property. And we do have golf communities in Western Wake County! So when we search for Cary golf course homes, we expand the search to other towns. The results range from starter condos in the low $100,000's to luxurious estates of 8000 and 9000 square feet of living area. I set up a search to include Cary, Morrisville, Apex, and Holly Springs knowing that this search would bring several lovely courses

apex: Corner Lot homes in the Cary, NC, Area: Of course, we have them! - 01/25/11 11:34 PM
Corner lot homes are either desired or disliked, depending on the Buyer to whom you are speaking. I can see why one might feel either way. Some "Pros" to corner lots: In subdivisions where lots are small, the corner lots are about the only place where builders can offer side-entry garages, due to the adjoining street. Being open on the side, as many corner lot homes are, can let natural light into the house without shading from a neighbor's home. This also applies most often in small lot subdivisions. And that corner lot may offer the homeowner a nice garden area.

apex: Searching for Hot Tubs in Cary Area Homes - 01/21/11 11:49 PM
Searching for hot tubs in Cary area homes can be rewarding. Hot Tubs are not as common as they once were, but still are a desirable for many buyers. And, when the hot tub is well-integrated into a nice in-ground swimming pool area, it is likely it will be regularly used. That "well-integrated" situation can be elusive. Some properties have hot tubs and pools that appear to have been professionally planned when the home was built. And, some properties show less evidence of good planning for the placement and use of those amenities. "Hot tubs" is a searchable field in the Triangle MLS, and it

apex: Cary, NC: Searching for Properties with No Home Owners Association - 01/18/11 11:43 PM
Home Owner Associations are quite common in the Cary, NC, area, and nearly universal in neighborhoods of new construction. In the 1990's regulations were passed mandating that developers provide for maintenance of common areas in new subdivisions of over 20 homes. This provision almost always leads to creation of an entity to handle this maintenance. Ergo, the proliferation of neighborhood Home Owner Associations. "HOAs."Homeowners pay dues to the HOA for this management. In townhome and condo communities, the dues may also cover landscaping and exterior building maintenance. This will typically result in higher HOA dues in these communities.Generally, the Association will

apex: Searching Listings for Home Theater Rooms in Cary, NC. - 01/13/11 11:56 PM
Home Theater Rooms are a popular feature in upscale houses in the Cary NC area. And a smart listing agent markets them prominently in the home's description in the MLS.Also, Home Theater is an available search field for consumers looking at real estate agent websites to find a home. All home theaters are not equal. They will vary from basic four or six seat rooms for a small family, to a room with a dozen or more seats which becomes an entertainment center for hosting guests. But, certain features in a home theater are "must haves." Must have a large video

apex: Searching for Condos in the Cary, NC, Area - 01/06/11 10:01 PM
Searching for Condos in the Cary, NC area yields a variety of styles in the results. Condominiums range from the $70,000 price point to over $300,000 in Cary, Apex, and Morrisville. That is a limited selection compared to Raleigh, where condos start lower but also may sell for several hundred thousand dollars. The urban environment of downtown Raleigh has encouraged luxury condo development in the last several years. Condos can come in many configurations. Troon Village in Cary is a condo development where quad units of attached ranch-style homes comprise the community. In some instances, condos can take the form of townhome-style

apex: Circular Driveways Offer an Air of Elegance to Cary Homes - 01/05/11 08:24 PM
Circular driveways offer an air of elegance to Cary, NC, homes. While they tend to be found on luxury homes, you will see them on homes of any style where they solve a problem. Sometimes circular drives are used on properties that face busy streets, so that the homeowner can pull out, rather than back into traffic. Pulling forward is much safer for the driver. But, most times, the circular drive is an elegant convenience for the homeowner. eliminating the need to back up at all, and making it possible for drivers to easily pull through and drop guests at the doorstep.Circular driveways use

apex: Cary, NC: Searching for End Unit Townhouses - 12/28/10 11:17 PM
Townhomes have become increasingly popular in the Cary, Apex, Morrisville area over the last several years, for convenience, cost, and lower maintenance demands. And some townhome buyers often prefer end unit homes for a variety of reasons. They get a little more yard with the end unit, as the yard wraps around the side of the building.Sometimes there is extra parking available to the end unit. There may be additional buffer and natural area at the side of the lot. They will only have a neighbor on one common wall, so either they will have more peace and quiet, or they will not be a bother to two

apex: Air Strips in Cary Condo Complexes? Not really, I think - 12/24/10 11:19 PM
Air Strips in Cary Condo Complexes? Not really, I think! But, the MLS told me there were. As REALTORS®, and members of our local MLS's, we are responsible for the integrity of the data we input to maintain MLS's accurate, so that good comps can be pulled. When errors are made, they can be funny like this one, or they can be more serious. I have been doing a series of blogs featuring custom real estate search links on various features that are desirable to some property buyers in Western Wake County. And to do my next one, I set up a search for

apex: Searching for homes with In-Ground Swimming Pools in Cary and Surrounds... - 12/24/10 07:07 PM
Searching real estate listings for homes with in-ground swimming pools in Cary, Apex, Morrisville and Western Wake County can be a challenge. Although Cary enjoys a moderate warm climate, we do not have a great many private pools in back yards. They can be found, but are not the rule as in areas further South, or in the Southwest United States. This due to a combination of factors. With the popularity of small lots and low maintenance, many homes just do not have adequate property to support the installation of a nice in-ground pool. And a community pool is a fixture

apex: Finding Waterfront Homes in the Cary, NC, Area - 12/23/10 02:43 PM
Finding waterfront homes in the Cary, NC, area can be an interesting quest. When I talk to folks who want to live on the water, commonly, they want boat docks or boat houses, water skiing and powerboating. These can be difficult to find in the Cary, Apex, Morrisville area. We do have a few large lakes. Jordan Lake in Chatham County provides drinking water for Cary, Apex, and Morrisville, and is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. It offers boat ramps and a marina for storage, but the Corps owns the surrounding perimeter, so there are no private
