microsoft: Tech 2014, or Going All Microsoft, All The Time. - 01/03/14 10:16 AM
One thing leads to another.  And now I'm pretty much Microsoft across the board.
Some baseline that shows we were already tilted that way to some degree:
I am not unhappy with MSFT stuff. All my computers are Windows 7, leftovers from when the Triangle MLS supported nothing but Internet Explorer.  I also have Comodo Dragon and Comodo IceDragon and Firefox browsers loaded, but work mostly with IE 11.  I have been using Outlook email on MS Hosted Exchange for years. I have had Microsoft Office Professional 2003 on my machines since 2004, and MSFT is ceasing support and updates this year. Bing mapping … (2 comments)

microsoft: Can the "Evil Empire," MSFT, Actually be More Ethical than the "Do No Evil" Empire, GOOG? - 03/17/11 04:28 PM
.
You saw it first, here, on ActiveRain!
Some people say it is so.  That would be the folks at The Ethisphere Institute.  (Uh...  Try saying "The Ethisphere Institute" fast, three times.  "Theethithhth." )
Yep.  MSFT is perched on the 2011 list of the 110 Most Ethical Companies in the world.  GOOG, on the other hand, is not.  How can that be?  GOOG gives stuff away for F-R-E-E, making it the darling of the privacy-adverse amongst us.  And MSFT must have gone all Miss Goody Two Shoes after Y2K when Mr. Bill first pondered how many Bill-ions it would take to ELEVATE! himself to a Supra … (7 comments)

microsoft: gettag.mobi, Microsoft's Proprietary 2D code - 11/09/10 12:02 PM

So, the Mrs. sent me out for pizza tonight.
And I couldn't help noticing the window display at Don Edwards' Realty Executives office right beside the Papa Murphy's Pizza at the Fresh Market shopping center on SW Cary Parkway.
Don isn't using QR Codes, but is implementing Microsoft's gettag.mobi. to advertise his listing.  gettag.mobi is a proprietary code, as one might expect from Microsoft.  But there they are, working away at 7:00 in the evening when the office is closed.
I'll have to stop in and ask Don how many hits he is getting from the codes.

microsoft: Windows 7 PC's debuting early. Up to 10 days early. - 09/30/09 02:19 PM
Ars Technica reports that some system builders will offer Windows 7 computers earlier than October 22 General Availability, as early as October 13, with Microsoft blessing the early release.
That is great for folks who are eagerly waiting for the next MS operating system.
Of course, I am all for it.  I have mine, and I want a few more early adapter test pilots to run W7 through its paces.  I'm well into my third month, and enjoying it immensely.

microsoft: Windows 7 Compatibility Mode Saves My Bacon! And My Pocketbook, Too! - 09/04/09 10:44 PM
We have learned to fear Windows Upgrades due to the possibility we will have a legacy device that we will not be able to use due to lack of driver support. I thought I was there.  With a printer that would be expensive to replace.
I own a Dell 5100cn printer, an enterprise level printer designed for group environments and a 90,000 print/month duty cycle.  But Del ended support.  That wasn't an issue as long as I used Windows XP.  Although I never upgraded to Vista, I knew that Dell had provided Vista drivers for the 5100cn.  And Vista Drivers have worked very well … (9 comments)
