Looking for ways to entertain the kids and family during the winter break?
Catawba Science Center (CSC) in Hickory will expand its educational and planetarium show offerings during the weeks of December 21 - 31.

Children in grades pre-K to sixth can spend the day at CSC during Winter Fun Science Day Camps on December 21 and 28, learning about the winter solstice and crime scene investigation.

 We do not get snow often in Hickory North Carolina.
My boys got to go sledding for the first time in years and they had a great time.

We will look and listen for owls and other nocturnal animals as we make our way to the observation platform near the top of the mountain.
Once there, we will have an unparalleled view of the surrounding Catawba Valley. Ranger Sutton will point out the various cities and landmarks that are visible and if the weather cooperates, he will also point out some star formations and planets.

December 10th 2009 is the Last Day for the Catawba County Bikes for Tykes Program  
The Hickory Fire Department, in conjunction with the Christmas Bureau, is asking for new and like new bikes and tricycles for needy children to be given out at Christmas time.   
Last year 615 brand new bikes and 500 helmets were donated.
If you have a bike or tricycle that you would like to donate, please drop them off at any of the Hickory fire stations between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
