Local Tai Chi instructor Yueling Yu will offer a series of free Tai Chi classes at Patrick Beaver Memorial Library each Saturday morning in September from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
The class is appropriate for those with little or no Tai Chi experience, but seasoned practitioners will also find it beneficial. All ages are welcome and no registration is required. Participants are encouraged to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

The Minetta Lane Center for Arts and Peace is seeking artists of all ages for the upcoming exhibition, “Reflections on Peace and Peacemakers,” to coincide with World Peace Day, Wednesday September 21, 2011. Fine art, fine craft, photography and written word will be accepted.
This exhibition will focus on the broader scope of peace whether it be with one’s self, or on a local, regional, national or global level.

Golf Fundraiser for the Catawba County Humane Society - 08/25/11 06:52 PM

On Monday August 29,  2011 Humane Society of Catawba County will hold the 10th Annual Bud Lofland Memorial Golf Tournament fundraiser, held at Rock Barn Golf and Spa.
Humane Society of Catawba County does not receive any tax dollars, government funding or support from national humane organizations. By either playing in the tournament or by becoming a sponsorship, the proceeds allow HSCC to continue its mission: saving animal lives and providing permanent homes through adoption.

The City of Hickory will be holding a  9-11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, September 11, 2011 in Downtown Hickory at 4 p.m.
WHKY 1290 am First Talk program host Hal Row will emcee the ceremony and U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry will give the memorial address. Additional participants include Mayor Wright, Reverend David Roberts from Morning Star Baptist Church, Hickory High School Band, and the Exodus Choir.

Hickory citizens are invited to participate in the Neighborhood College program. The Neighborhood College is a series of professionally led classes designed to teach citizens about the City of Hickory and the services it provides.  The class is an educational experience that will give participants insight into how the city operates on a day to day basis, as well as how it plans for the future.
