Full Circle Arts offers quilling class on Saturday February 25, 2012. Quilling is the art of rolling, gluing, and pinching narrow strips of paper into different shapes that are then used to embellish objects or are assembled to form framed picture artwork or three-dimensional pieces.
The class will be taught by Beth Oczkowski, who lives in Hickory and is a member of the North American Quilling Guild. Beth has been perfecting her skills for almost 30 years. Her work has been exhibited in many galleries, shows, and local competitions.

Hickory NC Downtown Union Square now has three hour parking. Between Second Street and Third Street NW on Union Square the parking time limitations have been extended from two-hour parking to three-hour parking giving customers an additional hour of free parking to shop, dine, and explore in Downtown Hickory.
Hickory City Council unanimously approved the Second Reading of the change to the city’s parking ordinance during their February 7, 2012 meeting.

Catawba Science Center Hosts Trip To Schiele Museum - 02/02/12 09:31 AM
Join Catawba Science Center Naturalist Bruce Beerbower on a trip to the Schiele Museum of Natural History for a Fossil Fair on February 4, 2012 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The event will spotlight several natural treasures from the Earth including fossils, rocks, minerals and the ancient stories that accompany each of these items. Kids will have the opportunity to meet animated prehistoric characters, see a full-sized T. rex, make a fossil fish print, mine for gemstones and search for tiny fossils from the Carolina Coast. Interesting specimens will be available for purchase from vendors.

Newton NC: The Green Room Theatre Playwriting Contest - 02/02/12 09:27 AM
The Green Room Community Theatre announced the return of the Theatre Works New Playwrights Festival, a playwriting contest open to 3rd – 12th graders. The plays will be judged in three categories: 3rd-6th grade, 7th-9th grade and 10th-12th grade.
All plays submitted in the 3rd-6th grade category have a 10-15 minute time limit, while submissions in the other two categories have a 30-45 minute limit.

Hickory NC Rotarian Idol - 02/02/12 09:24 AM
Hickory NC Rotary club has announced dates for its musical fundraiser, ROTARIAN IDOL. The event will be held Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 7 pm in PE Monroe Auditorium on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University. Auditions will be held at The SALT Block Auditorium January 26, 2012 from 6-9 pm and January 29, 2012 from 2-5 pm.
There is no limit to age or place of residence, but professional singers will not be allowed to audition. A $5 fee is required.
