A bookfair Dec. 11 and 12, hosted by Barnes & Noble in Hickory, will support science education, programs and exhibits at Catawba Science Center, a nonprofit science and technology museum featuring aquaria and a digital planetarium.
For each purchase made that is accompanied by a bookfair voucher, Barnes & Noble will donate a percentage of sales to Catawba Science Center. Books, magazines, CDs and café purchases are included.

Catawba County is working to receive a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) from the North Carolina Department of Commerce that will provide money for water and/or sewer taps and connections for low-to-moderate income households in Catawba County.
 
To be eligible for this grant, a house must be owned and lived in by low-to-moderate income owners, or by low-to-moderate income tenants where the landlord also has low-to-moderate income.
Low and moderate-income households are defined as households with 80% or less of the median family gross income for the county or the Metropolitan Statistical Area in which the house is located.

The Green Building incentives section of the Catawba County's building fee structures is a special allowance to provide an incentive for building in accordance with LEED, Energy Star, and NC Healthy Built Homes.
The incentive based fee structure is intended to increase renewable/sustainable energy technologies and green building certifications for homes and commercial buildings in Catawba County.
Various permit and plan review incentives are available for new and existing construction. catawba county info: Grant Could Help First Time Home Buyers in Catawba County - 01/22/09 01:44 PM
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners gave its approval for the Western Piedmont Council of Governments to apply for federal grant to finance the purchase and renovation of about 35 houses that have been seized in recent foreclosures.  These homes will be renovated and made available for first time home buyers.
Catawba County is applying for a portion of the fifty-two million dollars that North Carolina is set to receive.  Grants will be provided based on need.  Need is determined by the percentage of foreclosures, sub-prime mortgages, and the number of homes that are delinquent on payments.  The money comes from … (0 comments)
