Lake Hickory is a recreational lake, allowing boating, jet skis, water skiing, swimming, tubing, fishing, and other water activities.

Lake Hickory was created in 1927 with the completion of the Oxford Dam. The dam parallels the NC Highway 16 bridge over the Catawba River between I-40 and Taylorsville. It is 122 feet high, with an overall length of 1,200 feet. The spillway section of the dam is 550 feet long. The Lake has 105 miles of shoreline, totaling over 4200 acres of surface area. lake hickory: Fireworks on Lake Hickory....don't tell anyone but.... - 07/05/08 03:25 PM

I almost don't want to let out this secret but we were out on Lake Hickory last night (July4th) and there were quite a few really nice fireworks displays going on around us. It was a pretty amazing sight sitting in the middle of the channel and watching the multiple displays going on around us. Thanks to all of the people who provided entertainment to their guests but to those lucky enough to be trolling around last night.
