Lake Hickory NC - A Fabulous 4th of July 2010 Living in Hickory North Carolina is wonderful all year long. And, last night was no exception. Boaters on the lake as well as people sitting on the shores were treated to a fantastic fireworks show. Many private homeowners on the lake host fantastic private parties that include fireworks that are visible to the public.
My family piled into our pontoon boat at sunset and relaxed as we listened to the great music and waited for the fireworks to start.

WHAT: Canoe Days on Lake Hickory
WHERE: Geitner-Rotary Park
WHEN: April and May
HOW MUCH: $10.00 fee for City of Hickory residents
The Hickory Parks and Recreation Department will host “Canoe Days on Lake Hickory” in April and May.
The program will consist of a 2 hour day paddle led by Jon Coley, Recreation Programmer. Jon is also an American Canoe Association certified instructor.

Lake Hickory was created in 1927 with the completion of the Oxford Dam. The dam parallels the NC Highway 16 bridge over the Catawba River between I-40 and Taylorsville. Lake Hickory was named after the nearby city of the same name. The lake covers almost 4,223 acres with 105 miles of shoreline. Full pond elevation is 935 feet. Lake Hickory has so much to offer with recreation, beautiful views, and peaceful tranquility.

Lake Norman is located within driving distance to Hickory NC and is a great place to visit in the Catawba Valley area.
