facebook: Facebook Better (or at least Suggest to Friends Better) - 03/22/12 03:27 AM
I know you have one Page with only a few LIKE’s.
I know we would all like to have more people interacting on our Page. There are wonderful ways to make that happen and I share them on this blog.
And I know Facebook dangled that carrot in front of you, encouraging you to send a message to those 5,000 people you have as “friends”.  Tempting wasn’t it?  I know.
But considering the fact you’ve had ZERO interaction with them since the day they accepted your friend request do you think the best thing for you is to pop up saying “HEY LIKE … (13 comments)

facebook: This is what a HACKED Facebook Profile looks like - 03/14/12 03:53 AM

Each of those photos has tagged 44 different friends.  Everyone who clicks on the links under the photo starts the process with their friends.  Please stop clicking on bad links.
BUT.. If you did, here’s how to get your profile back

facebook: Pinterest Poorly - 02/23/12 01:10 AM
So…   Last week I created a small graphic voicing my opinion on how some people are using Pinterest poorly.
Just my opinion, and I’m sticking by it.
The graphic got a few shares, a few re-pins, and generally spread around as you might expect.  Yay for me!
In a seemingly unrelated post, Jeff Turner wrote an excellent article about how the things you pin may get you in copyright trouble “Pinterest Is Still Enabling Piracy”.  He points out that many people are pinning images from a Google Image Search.  Who cares?
(Here’s where the unrelated turns into a Related Post)

facebook: Facebook Page 101: Setting your Default Landing Tab - 01/27/12 04:28 AM
One of the best things about having a Facebook Page is the ability to direct a new visitor to any one of your Tabs first.  That means that anyone who has not yet LIKE’d your Page or not currently signed in to Facebook can be directed to your Wall, or Info, or Photos or any of the Tabs your Page currently has.
If you are really cool, your Page has a specific Tab (App) custom built to convert visitors to LIKE’s like these people do: http://areweconnected.com/facebook/
You can’t do that with your Profile.  You can’t do that with a Group.  You can’t do that with an … (8 comments)

facebook: Facebook’s new List suggestions - 09/14/11 05:51 AM
I’m happy Facebook came up with a way to encourage more people to put their friends in lists.
If you know me, you know I’m a HUGE pusher of LISTS.  Lists are the key to making Facebook work for you.
From the Facebook Blog:
To make lists incredibly easy and even more useful, we’re announcing three improvements:
Smart lists – You’ll see smart lists that create themselves and stay up-to-date based on profile info your friends have in common with you–like your work, school, family and city. Close Friends and Acquaintances lists – You can see your best friends’ photos and posts in one place, … (2 comments)

facebook: Facebook 101: Your Profile - 06/18/11 03:54 AM

When you join Facebook you create a profile.
I might as well say this now… You get one profile.  It’s your name.  First and Last (maybe a maiden name at the end in parenthesis).  Nothing more, nothing less.  That’s it.  Sorry but “Mike Mueller – Super Salesman” isn’t your actual name.  Can't have that R word after your name either.  You can be deleted for that.  Know what else you can be deleted for?  It’s actually a violation of the rules to have more than one profile.  Yeah I know, you just want to keep your real friends away from your”other” friends?   … (44 comments)

facebook: How to fix your Hacked Facebook Profile - 04/18/11 03:48 AM
Your Facebook Profile has been hacked?  It’s tagging pictures of all your friends or perhaps something worse?  No worries – let’s fix it.  The culprit is probably a 3rd party App.
Even if you haven’t been hacked every once in a while it’s always a good idea to go into the Facebook Apps section and remind yourself of the Apps you’ve given access to over time.  That seems reasonable right?  The problem most people have no idea how to find them.
Here’s the easiest way.  If you are logged in to your account simply go here:

facebook: 12 Posts for the complete Facebook n00b! - 03/22/11 02:52 PM

So you are a self proclaimed newbie (n00b) to Facebook?
Welcome!  Group HUG!
Feeling good?  You should.  Facebook can be an incredible place.  But be forewarned – there’s a lot of snake oil being sold out there regarding Marketing and Facebook.  There’s incredible plans to automate this, manipulate that, increase your whozit while dramatically decreasing your FinkelheimerScore.
A fool and their money are soon parted, eh?  Like your money?  Let’s take you out of the Fool category right now!

facebook: YOU CAN NOT AUTOMATE ENGAGEMENT - 01/31/11 02:43 AM
Sorry for the shouting, but it fits the topic of my post.  Sometimes I wish I could climb to the top of the highest (social media) mountain top.
I know it would be a long struggle.  Battered knuckles, lack of oxygen, bitter cold and winds.
Upon reaching the summit, I’d turn around and at the top of my voice, I’d yell..
YOU CAN’T AUTOMATE ENGAGEMENT!

Yeah, I know.  If a tree falls in a forest…  but hey, I really would if I could.
Automation is great for so many things, it’s just that in this particular instance (engaging others in … (2 comments)

facebook: Comment, ReTweet, Like or Share? Pick One. - 10/21/10 07:24 AM
I attended a session at REBlogWorld titled,“Is the Real Estate Blog Dead?”
It was moderated by the ever smart Rob Hahn and featured an All Star Panel, Jay Thompson, Teresa Boardman and Sarah Stelmok – all of which have blogs that are very much alive and well.

Our posts today are spread out across the internet.  RSS feeds, Twitter, Facebook, as well as sites like Digg or FriendFeed.  While the information has the potential to reach higher numbers of eyeballs, where they see it and how they respond has greatly changed.
To the panel, I posed the simple question…
If I came to your blog and read one of … (24 comments)

facebook: 850+ Comments on just one wall post! - 03/11/10 01:52 AM
I was just answering a question from someone who wanted to know “How did so and so do that?”  That answer led to the iJustine Page.
First thing I have to say, we can’t all be her.  How would you like to have 850+ comments on a single wall post?

As good as that sounds – she’s also got an issue.  Her YouTube tab.  It’s an application that creates a tab in a Page and it’s seriously broken.

This is just an example of what could happen when a Facebook Application goes awry.

facebook: We're all connected - but how? - 03/01/10 02:34 PM

Here’s a quick and easy to tool to tell.
It’s called MashedIn and it uses the API’s of the big three to show you how you and I are connected.

Signing up is easy…  Just click on each of the three social networks (or just one if you like) Your Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin accounts are all pulled in via oAuth verification.

Once you have made the connection there, you’ll have a link you can provide or a iframed widget for a sidebar (see my sidebar) or post like this: http://www.mashedin.com/profile/FB/682007215
Now just click on any of the three and Mashedin will show you … (5 comments)

facebook: Just another day on the internet... - 12/12/09 02:18 AM
At dinner, after a long day "working the tubes" sometimes my family will ask...
"So, what happened on the internet today Dad?" Well you see there was this great video on YouTube with a kitten...
Oh! and it was Suzy Smiths birthday on Facebook and everyone wished her a Happy Birthday - some even recorded funny videos...
And then there was this guy on Twitter who had a really funny quote, so we all ReTweeted it and added a "w00t!"...
And of course I read a bunch of blogs, replied to a few comments, uploaded a few pictures to Flickr...

facebook: Facebook your Listings (the right way) - 11/16/09 12:32 PM
One of the first questions I get asked by an Agent who wants a Custom Facebook Business Page created is “Can you pull in my listings – here’s my IDX Feed” The answer is No! "Pretty Please?" Still No. Not because I don't want to. You see... Facebook does not like dynamic content in custom tabs and guess what your IDX feed is? Yup! “Dynamic”. But wait there’s a workaround and a very pretty one at that. The folks over at RealBird have a slick application. How slick? Check this out: Play with it LIVE on Debbi Di Maggio, Piedmont Real … (15 comments)

facebook: 7 reasons you need a Facebook Business Page - 07/29/09 02:54 AM

Yet another post on Facebook Business Pages Facebook allows for custom creation of fabulous pages. They (Facebook) call them Fan Pages but really they are Business Pages.  Instead of “Friends” your Page collects “Fans”.  Hey, I’m not a big Fan of the term either.
What can a Facebook Business Page do?  Almost anything. The best analogy is that a Facebook Business Page is a website/blog within Facebook.  One of the most important things about a Page is that it separates your Personal (family, friends, church, and old girlfriends from 20 years ago) from your Professional Persona of today.  Fans of … (12 comments)

facebook: TanyaHardingRocks! or "How you can change your Facebook Username" - 07/23/09 06:35 AM
Breaking news!
From http://www.allfacebook.com/2009/07/change-facebook-username/
When Facebook first released the username tool a few weeks ago, they said that you better like the username that you select because you’ll never be able to change it. Now Facebook is modifying that policy to allow users to “change their username once”. It’s pretty easy to switch your username. All you need to do is visit your account settings page and click on “Change” next to the “Username” setting. Facebook will then let you know if the new username you’d like is available.
Here’s your one chance to correct that misguided username you accidentally chose

facebook: Will you ever need your OLD Facebook Profile again? - 06/17/09 06:34 AM
YES!
The initial Facebook land rush is now behind us. More than 500,000 vanity usernames were registered within the first 15 minutes. Additionally more than 3 million people registered their Facebook usernames in the first 12 hours after the land rush began.  Wow!  Did you get yours?  http://facebook.com/username
Now it’s time to start watching the ripple effect.  When a Social Media Giant like Facebook changes the rules there’s going to be ripples.  When my profile goes from this
to something more like this  In terms of URL structure, that’s a substantial change.
Think of all the sites out there that asked … (9 comments)
