Jackson Tire Service is the place to go for tires here in Amador County, At least that’s where I go…Patrick, one of the founders of the company says that Jackson Tire Service employs almost a dozen people at the two stores, one in Jackson, and for the last two years, one up the hill in Pine Grove. A Local Company unlike so many tire shops these days, Jackson Tire doesn't bat an eye at my low profile rubber on my Scion, my wife's run on flats for her mini, or agriculture tires for my sister's tractor. Recently it has been pointed out that due to the size of our MLS next to the big guys nearby it can sometimes be hard to find all of the homes for sale here in Amador County. Have you noticed that some sites have some homes for sale and other sites have different homes for sale listed?Let me set that straight. At least that is what Progressive Farmer magazine said in the article on the “Ten Best Rural Areas to Live in America”. I of course think that they must have missed something. But nine is good. In the article on Amador County, Jamie Cole the author, points to the wide spread of climatic regions in this small county, the historic towns and the great wine industry. All of those things are good but the people and the lifestyle are what gives Amador County it’s charm and warmth. The article dose a good job of summing it up in a quick read, (0 comments)

In these posts I am going to be looking at straw bale building. If you are not familiar with this fantastic building technology, hopefully I can help to inform you a bit. While I have not built my own straw bale home yet, I have worked on a few in the area. This custom, inviting interested people to help work on straw bale building projects, sort of like the old time barn raisings where all of you friends would come to help, is just one aspect of the charm that these buildings hold. Today I took my first drive on the brand new Hwy. 49/16 Sutter Creek bypass. Reportedly the most expensive road per mile in the state of California. It turns out that those nice green rolling hills are HARD ROCK! I did not have my camera with me today, so pictures will be coming soon. The area is stunningly beautiful especially this time of year. The new view of Sutter Creek is great, with the cemetery in the foreground and the town nestled up in the valley.
