The 27th annual Jim Hall Memorial May Trout Classic is May 16 and 17th. The Fishing Association of Big Bear Lake sponsors this tournament and gives out nine cash prizes (1st place=$2025). Applications are available at Big Bear Sporting Goods, Big Bear Marina, and the Big Bear Municipal Water District. All proceeds from the Trout Classic are used to provide fish plants, artificial habitat structures, conservation projects, and monthly tournaments for designated species. Construction on the Big Bear replacement bridge along Highway 18 will begin this Spring, but there is a groundbreaking ceremony this Thursday (March 11) at the PAC (Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center). Officials from Caltrans, the City of Big Bear Lake, San Bernardino County, the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, and the Fawnskin Chamber of Commerce are all expected to attend. Wondering how much snow/rain Big Bear Lake gets each and every year? Below is a spreadsheet provided by the Big Bear Municipal Water District breaking down the monthly precipitation over the past 26 years. The average annual precipitation is roughly 36.35" per year but it's amazing to see the how much it varies from year to year (I've highlighted the 5 biggest years). Make sure you ask your Big Bear Lake Real Estate Agent if there are CC&R's (Convenants, Conditions, and Restrictions) or a Homeowners Association in the neighborhood. Some subdivisions in Big Bear will have architectural commitees which set minimum standards on what they would like to see built (square footage requirements, fence styles, mandatory garages, mandatory building pads for where the house must be placed, etc). So make sure you read through the neighborhood guidelines before you commit to purchase in a particular area. Below is a list of everything that has sold and everything that is currently in escrow in 2008 in my area of Big Bear (Big Bear Lake, Big Bear City, Fawnskin, Sugarloaf, Erwin Lake, Baldwin Lake and Lake Williams). When I put this table together I wanted to see what price ranges were selling and what impact foreclosures were having in those price ranges....so I added the number of foreclosures in parentheses.

Yes! As a matter of fact we just had one! It shook our office pretty hard and registered a magnatude of 3.6. If you ever want to look at the seismic activity of a particular area you can go to http://www.usgs.gov/. Once you get to their site, just click on "recent earthquakes". It will give you updated information on a map broken down per week, per day and per hour with the magnatudes in different colors.
