bryan texas: The Queen Was Crowned In Bryan Texas! - 10/16/11 04:12 PM
Recently my wife and I attended the ceremony for the "Crowning of the Queen "  movie  theater in historic downtown Bryan.   If you saw the old theater 2 years ago, she was in shambles. I grew up in the 50's and 60's going to movies at the old Queen and her counterpart across the street 'The Palace."  I recall seeing the very first James Bond movie at the Queen. It is refreshing to see her being brought back to life again. It was exciting when they turned on the lighted crown!

bryan texas: National Night Out With Habitat In Bryan Texas - 10/05/10 04:09 PM
National Night Out was celebrated by neighborhoods all across the City of Bryan Texas tonight.  We celebrated by attending the Habitat For Humanity neighborhood "Angelgate" where volunteers and Habitat representatives served up hot dogs and cold drinks to neighbors and visitors to the annual celebration. Our firm , BCR , was well representatives including our Realtor and State Of Texas House Representative Fred Brown who served up Hot Dogs to several hundred folks for a couple hours. Also attending was BCR's Career Enrichment Director, Cathy Patranella. And yours truly was along to take photos, and also help serve. And Mayor of … (9 comments)

bryan texas: My New Favorite Mexican Resaurant In Bryan Texas! - 09/29/10 03:40 PM
I know it is a little difficult to get to, as they are working on the streets in historic downtown Bryan....but we heard about this new "authentic" Mexican food place at 414 N. Main . It is rather discreet when you drive by...but once you are inside you will feel like you are in a quaint little cantina south of the border.   Don't let the temporary street conruction and boardwalk dissuade you. Just go .
Restaurant San Jose  has got to be the closest thing to true Mexican style home cooking I have had in a good whole ...actually in a very good while!  Every … (5 comments)

bryan texas: Our Annual Designated Broker Meeting - 10/29/09 02:10 PM
Today the Bryan-College Station Regional Association MLS Service held its annual meeting. As part of the by laws,  this annual meeting of Designated Brokers has to be called, and the new slate of officers elected plus the business for the last year and the new budget for the new year, must be approved. This may have been the smoothest meeting I have ever been to in several decades and is really a testament to the good job that the president Joy Caldwell, and her board did over the last year. My thumbs go up to them!
As a former president I personally know that the … (7 comments)

bryan texas: Treated Right By The City of Bryan...Thanks! - 08/05/09 05:07 PM
Today another agent and myself attended a meeting with the Planning and Zoning division at the City of Bryan, Texas. I have been involved with home building, developing, and real estate sales for all my adult life. After today's visit I can honestly say I don't recall ever being treated as courteously as we were today by the approximately ten city staffers that attended our meeting.
There were representatives there from planning, zoning, inspection, code enforcement, the fire dept. and the police. All did a great job of answering questions and made some good suggestions. I cannot tell you how appreciative … (8 comments)

bryan texas: Chamber Mixer at Light Chevrolet in Bryan - 07/24/09 06:17 AM
I always enjoy going to the monthly Chamber of commerce mixers. Last week's was held at Tom Light Chevrolet in Bryan. It was a fun event with hot dogs , cold drinks, and apple pie. Lots of Chamber members showed up to enjoy the food and see some really nice vehicles.......dream on . I loved the 09 SS Chey Camaro and the 09 Corvette. Despite all the problems General Motors is going through there is just something about American Muscle in a car.  They even sound better than the foreign competition that often times sound like my 2 cycle weedeater at top … (2 comments)

bryan texas: Producers Cooperative Association - 06/27/09 04:51 PM
When we purchased our little farm in 2001 one of the first items of business was to join the Producers Cooperative located in Bryan Texas on North Texas Ave. The " Co-OP "  was founded in http://www.producerscooperative.com/1943 as a way to save money on feed. Since then it has grown to become one of the largest and most successful co-ops of its kind in the nation. Members usually get a "dividend" check at the end of the year. The Co-op now carries almost any thing the large or small rancher, farmer, gardener or pet owner needs. From fertilizer to equestrian supplies...you name … (2 comments)

bryan texas: City Council Meetings....Better Than Reality TV ! - 06/09/09 03:34 PM
Tonight my wife and I attended the City Council meeting at city hall in Bryan, Texas.  I have attended council meetings in neighboring College Station, but it has been a while since I attended one in Bryan.
If you would rather do something more enlightening than watching television or playing video games after your day ends ...then take in a city council meeting .  They are better than reality TV...believe me.
Here are just a few of the items that came up on tonight's agenda:
1.  The council was one hour late to the regular meeting because they couldn't get out of … (12 comments)

bryan texas: Sometimes the Law Does Care - 06/02/09 07:53 AM
Recently I was contacted by a local police officer who is a member of what is referred to as the "Neighborhood Enforcement Team."  What he contacted me about was in regards to one of my listings...a parcel of land that is zoned industrial use. The property adjoins a very poor neighborhood that has a lot of crime.  This property has been a tough sell and it could be partially because the residents have decided to park their vehicles on this property and even set out some old couches with tables to have a cold cerveza at during the evenings.  IE...they have set up Living room … (5 comments)

bryan texas: Fun Things To Do In Bryan Texas - 02/06/09 03:46 PM
I tend to boast a bit about the monthly First Friday events in downtown Bryan, Texas.   Perhaps I am a bit prejudiced but if you were to go, then you might understand more why. These once a month events are really fun for all .  Many of the businesses and restaurants stay open later to accommodate visitors and shoppers and there usually are several small musical groups performing in several of the businesses, along with giveaways including snacks and other tasty items. Plus you usually bump into several friends along the way. Tonight we enjoyed dinner at  Casa Rodriquez Restaurant. I can't say I have ever had … (5 comments)

bryan texas: Another First Friday Fun Evening in Downtown Bryan - 12/09/08 01:58 PM
This past Friday was the monthly First Friday event in ever "changing for the better " downtown Bryan, Texas.  My wife and I joined fiends for dinner at the River Bridge Restaurant and it was as good as the last time we dined there! They have a good variety of steak, fish, and burgers.....But what I really like are those good old fashioned homemade southern style  greasy French Fries. You know the kind...They taste like a real potato and not salty slivers of cardboard!
Then we took a walk to.... walk off the fries and visited all the shops that stay open late … (5 comments)

bryan texas: I Used to Walk a Mile to Catch The Bus in Bryan Texas - 07/11/08 03:04 PM
Time does fly! 45 years ago I used to walk about a mile every day to catch the scool bus on Turkey Creek Road.

The bus didn't go as far as our home which wasn't in the city limits then.  Now that home is in the city and the last time I checked it had become a frat house. Well that bothers me a little . I can just see the yee- ha's and beer kegs floating. But if I was that age again I might be over there with them. :O)
But time does fly. I just listed a commercial tract of land adjacent … (3 comments)

bryan texas: Can a Railroad Underpass be Beautiful? - 06/19/08 03:16 AM
Recently in Bryan, Texas a railroad underpass for a major city street was completed. The railroad  location has been a problem for automobile traffic in both Bryan and College Station for many years.  The rail passes right through the middle of both Bryan and College Station.  The trains come at 8AM, Noon, and 5PM, the worst times possible for autos. They have to wait sometimes 10 minutes, which is bad at rush hours.
Well finally an underpass was completed at Villa Maria Road in Bryan which allows cars to go under the railway. That in itself was great. What is icing on … (9 comments)

bryan texas: City of Bryan, Texas Considers Annexation - 06/11/08 09:10 AM
At Tuesday's Bryan city council meeting the city fathers  decided to delay discussions of annexing approximately 4,300 acres.. they feel more time is needed to study things.  About 266 homes and 306 individual parcels will be involved in the annexation.  Bryan is currently poised for real growth. With two recently developed golf courses and a large shopping center currently under way, much more growth is sure to come. Also several developers are actively studying possible developments in and near Bryan.  Stay tuned!
Have a prosperous week!
