funny: Skunk Season On Texas Highways - 03/20/08 10:53 PM
If you drive much on Texas Highways in the spring you will soon discover that those  black and white fur balls on the road are obstacles   to be avoided. We drive a good distance to town each moring and one day last week I counted at least 7 of the little boogers on the pavement in about an 8 mile stretch!  After a while you learn the secrets of squashed skunk navigation through trial and error but here are a few of them  to remember anyway.
Never ever ever ever run over a skunk dead or alive.  Never, ever go back to check on one … (13 comments)

funny: Ralph Nader What? - 02/26/08 09:18 PM
When My wife and I first got married we didn't have much and like a lot of young couples struggled, cut coupons, and did whatever to get by.  At that time Ralph Nader was just getting to be a hot item and was the consummate "Consumer Advocate."  And... young couples trying to be penny conscious listened to what he said. I suppose his opinions on  safety, value, and what was good or bad for American consumers had some merit. Obviously he had a significant long term effect.
Now , you know ...I guess I am not surprised that he is running for … (25 comments)

funny: Jekyll and Hyde Real Estate - 02/03/08 11:27 AM
It is pretty hard to sell to a salesman. At least I have always felt that it is. Sometimes I just have to bite my tongue to keep from blurting out  "GO AWAY!!" to those individuals that just don't get it.   IE ..The deal is not gonna work, it will never work, it wasn't ever intended to work.   Now there is always this little voice on my shoulder saying "Oh come on ..give it one more chance...try this new approach, just see what they say."  So I tend to give in,  despite my best intuitions telling me don't go there.  I … (9 comments)

funny: Can Active Rain help With the Flu? - 02/02/08 06:24 PM
Seems like a nasty little bug found his way into our twin cities this week . Normally life would have gone on as normal for myself. You see I can honestly say I haven't missed but maybe 10 total days of work in my entire career , due to illness. Well not so  this time.  This bug, well she's a particularly mean strain of flu. I have heard reports of the most cases in our area in years.  As your mom says wash your hands and cover your mouth.
24 hours ago had you asked my how I was doing I would have … (10 comments)

funny: All our Cats Have A Job. No Slackers Allowed. - 01/30/08 09:00 PM
We live in the country. Therefore our 4 cats (sometimes more)  are "Kuntry Kats" and as such, we expect them to earn their keep around our little ranch which is appropriately named KAT Ranch meaning the Khris And Trey Ranch  after my wife and yours truly.
Now I need to preface by saying we don't raise cats, and our four cats are all "fixed." We have only taken pound kitties or rescue cats and prefer the cross breeds as they seem to be more resilient and better suited to the country life. Simply stated, they survive better, don't expect a lot, even though they are all fat and … (2 comments)

funny: Rambo Lives! Yes! - 01/26/08 09:53 AM
My wife and I went to see the new Rambo , last night.  Rambo is as bad as ever, tough dude! I noticed this time however that Sylvester spent more time behind the machine gun and the boat motor than he did hand to hand combat and he seemed a little stiffer ...old age will do it to you every-time.
All in All it was just another Rambo movie...lots of blood, guts, and gore. The evil war lords rape, pillage, and murder everything that breathes and the Christian missionaries get caught up in the fight.  Good guys won though, thanks to … (18 comments)

funny: Short Seller - 01/26/08 09:02 AM
The word now-a-days is " Short Sale"
Well I have been a short seller for years. That is right. I used to be 5'-9''.  Now I am 5'-8 1/4''.  It is a known fact ...people get shorter as they grow older.
 I certainly have!

On a serious note I understand the concept of short sale. Nothing new here....I just am amazed at how the concept has become a side business "ancillary business" for so many. There are manuals, and even books on the topic, professional speakers on "How to Short Sell"  Nothing "Short" of amazing!.

funny: Countdown to Christmas for Peepers the Parrot - 12/19/07 11:30 PM
In an earlier Blog I talked about how our African Grey Parrot, Mr. Peepers just loves Christmas.  He actually senses the season.  Because Mr. Peepers loves the seasonal music so much, we leave the TV on all day on a satellite holiday music channel.
Also Mr. Peepers favorite CD is one on which Bing Crosby sings Christmas songs. That truly is his favorite and mine too.
Each morning when I get up he greets me with " Ho Ho Ho" Merry Christmas and makes my day when he injects Gig em' Aggies! Woop!" right afterwards.  Peeps is an avid Texas Aggie sports fan.

funny: We Must Control our Eating during the Holidays! - 11/28/07 01:11 PM
I don't know about the rest of you, but it has been almost a week.... and I am still feeling the effects of Thanksgiving dinner.  Could be because we are still nibbling on leftover cheesecake, brown sugar encrusted ham and other delicacies.
Now it is only a month until Christmas and there will be office parties and other festive events to attend in the meantime not to mention the spouses are busy baking peanut brittle and other tasty things WE DON'T NEED.
Please spouses of America...don't send goodies to the office. You are slowly killing us.  This could be a classified as a form of involuntary … (9 comments)

funny: Peepers the Parrot is into all Types of Music - 11/27/07 03:50 PM
Every year about this time Mr. Peepers tends to get a little bit excited. We think he knows it is Christmas.  He starts putting on a few ounces as he seems to be hungrier than normal and he really gets to chattering and whistling songs.  Peepers likes a variety of music from Rock n Roll to classical.  One of his top tunes to whistle is "In The Hall of the Mountain King"...you know it.  He also likes "Benie and the Jets"by Elton John.  He can make the noise of finger snapping perfectly well by clicking his beak and he keeps excellent time I might add.  … (4 comments)

funny: Ever Lost Your Favorite Sunglasses? - 11/26/07 09:46 AM
To me my sunglasses are like an old friend...they are always there for me.  I keep them in the special little trap door compartment on the ceiling of my truck.  I just can't drive woithout them anymore.  A long time ago I learned not to buy cheap sunglasses (also a song made famous by a Texas Band) for two reasons.:  Either they break easily or they are not good for your eyes.  So as a result I started buying only quality sunglasses. My preference is a reddish amber color made by "Serengeti. "  These glasses not only help on the brightest suunny days, but … (18 comments)

funny: What time should we Eat on Thanksgiving? - 11/16/07 11:53 AM
Every year our ever growing family gets together to enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving Feast.  My Dad , brothers, and myself look forward to the meal and begin discussing it weeks in advance. Probably the most signifacant point of discussion is WHAT TIME DO WE EAT?  Every year this question comes up.
There are 2 basic theories on the best time to eat:
Theory  #1.)  Eat early around 11: 00 .  That way you will finish up around 11:30  or so ( We eat fast like our food is going to try and escape ) .  You can then watch football, go do something, or take a nap. The problem with this method is that about  3:00 you … (5 comments)

funny: This is the Last Straw! - 11/15/07 08:45 PM
Is nothing sacred?  I cannot believe I heard this report on the news today.
Apparently there are some companies that hire Christmas Santas that have instructed the Santas to avoid saying "HO HO HO ! "  this Christmas. and in it's place to substitute "HA HA HA!" Well in my mind that is the last straw.  What is wrong with these people?
YOU CANNOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE THE "HO" OUT OF MY CHRISTMAS !
Somewhere  somehow they say there is research that says HO HO HO is more frightening to small children and sounds too similar to a condescending word describing certain "professionals." Let … (32 comments)

funny: Murphy's Law of Keys and Higher Technology Stuff - 11/14/07 07:08 PM
Yesterday at a home we have listed, a key fell from the lockbox on the front door.  Well it hit the sidewalk and went directly for the nearest large crack between the home foundation and the front porch concrete edge. Close scrutiny revealed the key fell just as predicted ....point up and deep in the hole and halfway under some leaves.  Now this crack is only about 3/8 ths of an inch wide and the only way to see the key was to mash your face up against the house and shine a flashlight down the crack. This was after sundown … (5 comments)

funny: One Property ... Two Deeds. Can it be? - 11/03/07 12:26 PM

I was asked some time back to go look at a ranch on the Navasota River in central Texas. The owner lived in Dallas, about two hundred miles from the property. He wanted me to come up with a value and list the place.   I was excited and anticipated selling quickly since it had riverfront.
So I drove out to the land, one evening and was greeted at the gate by a friendly  elderly gentleman. I told him I wasn't informed anyone lived on the place.  He said not only did he live there but that he owned it .  I asked him how that … (4 comments)

funny: No or Go! Cell phones and Contracts - 10/25/07 09:27 PM
There is a proper time to use cell phones and a proper time to use land lines, regular phones.   Don't use a cell phone when you are negotiating earnest money contracts. It can be dangerous. It can be embaressing.  And it can be downright irritating.  Isn't it frustrating when you get a call from an agent that goes like this :
"I have a client who wants to offer a zillion dollars on your home at......"  (line goes dead)
They call back 30 seconds later:
"Hey Trey,  Sorry I was in a hole in the valley ha ha ha..... ..."        (line goes dead again)
They call back … (8 comments)
