texas: Poop Is Big Business And Entire Cities Depend on It! - 01/23/10 09:20 PM
That's right Poop... is big business! Entire cities don't exist unless they have modern sewage treatment facilities and if they expect to continue to grow they must plan for the future of poop!
Municipalities depend on adequate and hopefully superior modern sewage treatment systems in order to process the sewage that homeowners and businesses generate.
The City of Bryan, Texas has plans to construct a new processing facility, The Thompson Creek plant, located near the Brazos River. It will serve the far west side of Bryan. Indications are it will be operational in about 2 years. The unique part of this plan is … (4 comments)

texas: Is This The Best Time To Buy A Home…….Forever? - 07/23/09 10:12 PM
Yep...at least I think so.
Well at least in modern history  and many economic and financial experts are thinking  so also.  Of course there are limiting factors involved...But if your credit, your cash on hand , your job security is safe, and you want a home ......then Go For It!  With prices either already low or falling, super low interest rates, and in some areas at least an over supply of homes, you  simply don't have to be a professor to deduce that it may very well add up to the perfect storm weather for buying your dream home.  And combine … (6 comments)

texas: Texas A and M Captures Three National Titles ! - 06/16/09 10:58 AM
This past weekend Texas A and M took home 3 national sports titles!  The Aggies captured the NCAA Men's Golf title.  The hero of the event was Bronson Burgoon, Texas  Aggie senior when he made a 125 yard  gap wedge shot that landed within 3 inches of the hole. This shot will probabably go down in the history books for A and M.
Also both the Aggie Mens" and Womens' Track teams took home national titles in NCAA track  outdoors this weekend at Fayetville Arkansas!  This makes A and M  the first school to win both the mens' and womens' outdoor titles since LSU did so in … (4 comments)

texas: Patio Homes in College Station Texas - 05/19/09 11:19 PM
Patio Homes in College Station Texas

What is a patio home?  Is it a zero lot line home? Does it have a fire wall?  Patio homes in our area are an enigma ....but not really .

The patio home in our area  is a single family home with one side of the home on the property line. No windows or doors are allowed on the brick wall on that side of the home, and the soffit and fascia material on that side are fire retardant.  The wall can be brick veneer.

The opposite side of the home resembles any … (3 comments)

texas: April Showers Bring Flowers And Cash Too! - 04/21/09 10:52 PM
Does money Grow on Trees?  Nope but in a sense it grows on flowers!
Well it finally rained in our part of Texas!! Thank the Lord ! Ibelieve we have had about 5 1/2 inches in the last week or so between the towns of Hearne and Franklin. and it is no understatement to say it was sorely needed. Here's a little taste of all my wife's hours , TLC , and lots of weed pulling.  I don't mind pruning , hauling , fertilizing etc....but just don't like pulling weeds.  We just love it when everything starts to bloom here in Robertson County, Texas. It is … (7 comments)

texas: Another Great Texas Courthouse - 04/06/09 10:11 PM
I just love old county courthouses. They have great charm. This handsome building is located on the town square in the heart of Franklin, Texas and  is the Robertson County Courthouse.  It was built in 1883 and is in the Second Empire Style.  It is made of Austin llimestone and is listed on the National register. Franklin, Texas is located on Hwy 79 , and the area is currently experiencing a natural gas boom, which has been a terrific boost to the economy of a sparsely populated, but beautiful county .  It is a short drive to the cities of Hearne  , and Bryan-College Station , … (14 comments)

texas: Today Is Declaration Of Independence Day.......For Texas - 03/02/09 11:32 PM
Has everyone in Texas Forgoten this day?  On March 2, 1836 The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed by the Delegates of the People of Texas in General Convention at the town of Washington now known as Washington on the Brazos.  Additionally they drew up a constitution and created an interim government.
Those who served in this government until October when elections could be held were:
David G. Burnet, President    Lorenzo de Zavala, Vice-president    Samuel P. Carson, Secretary of State    Thomas J. Rusk, Secretary of War    Bailey Hardeman, Secretary of Treasury    David Thomas, Attorney General On March 17th … (10 comments)

texas: Old County Courthouses in Texas - 01/24/09 12:07 PM
As our economy changes, my wife and I have searched for ways to entertain ourselves without stretching the budget too awfully much. Sometimes we simply enjoy jumping in the car,and taking short Saturday afternoon cruises in our area of the state.  Fuel costs are down somewhat... so it isn't too expensive to fill up the Mustang GT and hit the highway.  Besides being fun little excursions,  I have discovered the added benefit of getting  to learn some of the back roads in the adjoining counties I work in, which does benefit me as a Realtor.  We always have our cameras with us and one of … (18 comments)

texas: Old Country Churches In Robertson County Texas - 01/03/09 05:47 PM
I love to  just stop and photograph old country churches......there is something magnetic about them.
And  I often like to imagine how and why they began. Were they an offshoot from another church, were they just started by pioneer settlers?  I am sure if they could talk they would have many stories to tell us.  This small quaint church is located just west of Wheelock, Texas on FM 391 in Robertson County , Texas just a few miles east of Blackjack community. The bell is very interesting.

texas: Dunns Fort in Robertson County Texas - 01/03/09 05:22 PM
Dunns Fort was established southwest of Wheelock, Texas in 1832. It was a combination land office-courthouse, but it was initially built for defense. A state commemorative marker is at the original site southwest of Wheelock close to the Robertson-Brazos county border.
There's really nothing left of the fort. But there is a state commemorative marker . The fort was begun around 1832 and is located sothwest pf Wheelock, Texas.
Roberton County has a rich an diversified history.

texas: Something Old and Something New - 12/29/08 11:58 PM
I took this photo this past weekend while on our little weekend adventure in San Antonio, Texas.  The top half of the Federal Building can be seen peeking over  the north wall of the Alamo. In that same area is a marker commemorating Col. Travis who passed while defending the north wall.  Do you ever wonder where Texas would be today had it not been for heroes like Travis and his men?

texas: Bee Butts Means Business Is Good...At Least For Bees! - 10/24/08 12:07 AM
Every year in September and October several types of bees gorge themselves in our flower gardens. These yellow flowers seem to be particular favorites of bumble bees in our area west of Wheelock, Texas.  Bees can be hard to photograph because they just are so busy and seldom stop moving at all. One afternoon I watched these bees working the bush over and it took almost 15 minutes to find one that would hold still long enough to get a decent photo. Usually I had less than 1 second to get focused and the shot taken before the bee moved on again. And usually … (8 comments)

texas: This Where You Wash The Kidney's? - 10/21/08 10:13 PM
A few years ago a very charming Oriental lady from another country walked into my real estate office and politely said in broken English:  " This where you wash the kidneys ? "
I quickly smiled and replied " No Mam it is not, but I will  certainly take you there!"
Meanwhile bystanders were scratching there heads in confusion wondering what in the heck we were talking about.  But I knew exactly what she meant. A few doors down in the same building was a dialysis center. And you know.... after pondering her statement for a few minutes I concluded in a sense she was correct in her … (1 comments)

texas: Boys and Girls have Their Pictures Taken - 10/18/08 10:00 PM
I am really having fun with these hidden game cameras. Yesterday I retrieved the disc from one camera. This last batch had photos that prove our management is having a positive affect. Here is a picture of one group of does and a fawn and also a picture of a buck who is probably more interested in the girls than the corn we put out to attract everybody!
Good hunting!  or Photography!

texas: A Beginner In Localism - 10/11/08 08:33 AM
I really enjoy reading the many posts in Localism on Active Rain. I am have very weak skills when it comes to using Localism to my benefit as an agent, and don't mind admitting it.  What I am realizing  is that it takes time and effort. The two communities I am sponsoring are Hearne and Wheelock, Texas. I personally reside in between these two communities and love the area so that is why I chose them. I have a great deal to learn  and a great deal to share about these two areas and feel that AR is the perfect resource to … (9 comments)

texas: Don't Judge the Contents By the Package in College Station Texas - 09/26/08 12:11 AM
These Giant piers will help support a highway exit ramp in College Station Texas when completed. They are so interesting to observe while being constructed and actually are in 3  pieces. The giant steel molds take days and days to install before pouring the concrete mix, and after the mixture hardens and the molds are removed...... reveal an  almost art -like yet at the same time alien looking  structure when complete.

The ramp will serve as the exit for Rock Prairie Rd from Hwy 6 in College Station ,Texas.

texas: They're Back! - 08/29/08 10:45 PM
Yep the students are back in town. All you had to do was take a drive down University Drive , Texas Ave., or any other major street in Bryan or College Station this week and you realized that the traffic had doubled overnight. Yep it is fender bender time again.
Don't get it wrong....I love our Aggie and Blinn College Students. Without them I may not have survived this long in business.
They buy lots of food, gas and Real Estate! Yea Aggies.  Now go tell mom and dad you need a new condo or house to share with some roomies. … (1 comments)

texas: Arboretum in College Station - 07/23/08 03:33 PM
The Andy Aderson Arboretum in College Station, Texas began in 1976. It consists of 17 acres adjacrent to Texas Ave ( business Hwy 6). It also adjoins the cemetary and Bee Creek. There is a shelter and a nature trail in the park.

If you just want to escape the office for a little while, or simply need something different to do with the kids this summer, then don't overlook the arboretum located at 1900 Anderson. From Texas Ave. go west on Southwest Pkwy, then go left on Anderson.
An Arboretum is a place where trees ,shrubs, and plants are cultivated to … (4 comments)
