home sweeter home: WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE ~ WEEK SEVEN! - 08/22/10 01:37 AM

Wow, it's week seven of my husband and I's weight loss challenge but I am frustrated this week because I think I hit a plateau. I haven't moved on the scale all week and it's frustrating. We only have three more weeks till our trip and I have at least 8 more to lose before my BMI is in a "NORMAL RANGE". I'm feeling great and we have definitely changed our lifestyles but I think I have hit a plateau and may need to try something else.
We are still doing the gym which I think has really made an impact … (9 comments)

home sweeter home: GEORGE'S CONEY ISLAND, 158 SOUTHBRIDGE STREET, WORCESTER - 08/20/10 07:57 AM

If you are in the mood for a hotdog, this is the first place that should come to mind! George's Coney Island on 158 Southbridge Street is a Worcester staple. Voted in Worcester Magazine as one of the best places that men like to eat and also as the best hot dog place in Worcester, this long time family-owned business is thriving.
Founded in 1918, it has remained in its landmark location. In 1927, George Tsagarelis purchased the famous hot dog business and 11 years later, expanded it to include wooden booths, an art deco design, formica countertops and a tile floor. … (3 comments)

home sweeter home: TOP 10 REASONS TO SHOP LOCAL! - 08/17/10 02:53 PM

Just read this in one of my local papers and thought it was worth reposting. Shopping local is BETTER!
1. Significantly more money recirculates when purchases are made at locally and independent rather than nationally, owned, businesses. More money is kept in the community because local, independent businesses purchase from other local businesses and service providers.
2. Most new jobs are provided by local, independent businesses. Small, local businesses are collectively the largest employer nationally.
3. One-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of our distinctive character.
4. Local, independent business owners invest in our community. Local businesses, independent are owned … (16 comments)

home sweeter home: WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE TIP! - 08/16/10 01:48 PM
My husband and I have been staying on track with our weight loss challenge and one thing that has really helped is the Diet and Exercise Assistant. If you still have a Palm Pilot, you can download this software that tracks your daily calorie intake.
It's so easy to use, and it has really helped us be accountable that all we put in our mouths! I'm sure logging your food intake in a journal would help but the Diet and Exercise Assistant has a logbook and keeps track of the calories that you are alloted for each day. It also lists … (1 comments)

home sweeter home: ARE YOU A WINNER OR A WHINER? - 08/16/10 01:15 PM
I have read a few books recently by Sales guru, Jeffrey Gitomer and have subscribed to Jeffrey's Sales Gravy group.
But did you know that Jeffrey also has some intructional videos on You Tube about selling, networking and building relationships?
I thought this video hit the nail on the head about the salespeople who succeed and the ones who don't.
ENJOY!

home sweeter home: THE CORNER GRILLE, 806 PLEASANT STREET, WORCESTER - 08/15/10 01:01 PM
After a week long of dieting and not cheating, my husband and I were craving a pizza and heard that The Corner Grille on 806 Pleasant Street, Worcester had some awesome pizza pies. We had gone on a 2-1/2 hour bike ride that morning and thought we earned it, so we ordered a 14" Veggaholic Pie. The pizza pie consisted of mushrooms, zucchini, eggplant, tomatoes, spinach, green peppers with some ricotta and mozzarella cheese. I think our mouths were watering just ordering it! We also split a Fatoush salad which consisted of romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, olives, feta cheese, pita chips with lemon … (4 comments)

home sweeter home: VIA ITALIAN TABLE, 89 SHREWSBURY STREET, WORCESTER - 08/08/10 02:01 PM
To end our perfect weekend of biking, camping and canoeing, my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a lovely dinner at the Via Italian Table. The Via Italian Table is a one of Worcester's most popular restaurants and we thought we'd take advantage of the Restaurant Week as well. The Via Italian Table, along with 47 other Worcester restaurants have lunch and dinner specials for only $22.10 a person.
We started off with a melon and proscuitto appetizer, then shared an asparagus, walnut and goat cheese salad. Both were served cool and even better, light on the calories.

home sweeter home: MY WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE ~ WEEK FIVE! - 08/04/10 11:29 PM
Wow, I can't believe I am still into this weight loss challenge, but I believe you can't do it alone. Having my husband and I do this challenge together has really made all the difference! My BMI is now 26.5, so I'm getting there but this week has been a challenge in itself.
I'm realizing why I sometimes may overeat. There were some stressful situations that I had at work this week, that almost had me reaching for the bag of potato chips but I chose the fruit instead. I have also discovered that when I am bored, I tend to graze … (10 comments)

home sweeter home: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? ~ PART 2 - 08/03/10 01:39 PM
Okay, I just have to vent! Last night, my husband and I had gone to the gym and there were about 20 pizza boxes there on a table for members to eat. I really thought this was so odd to have this type of food in the gym.
Well tonight, when we went to the gym, my husband asked the woman at the counter, why the pizza was there last night and she replied, "Oh, we do that the first of every month!" Can you believe that? So now, I have to have pizza in my face the first of every … (11 comments)

home sweeter home: WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? - 08/02/10 12:52 PM
Okay, maybe it was just me, but tonight after work, my husband and I went to the gym to do our usual workout for our weight loss challenge. When we went to both check in, I noticed the gym attendant had a plate of pizza on the counter. Not only did I see it, but I smelled it! I thought I was in a pizza parlor!
Unfortunately for the next 20 minutes I had to watch her eat those two big slices of pizza while working my butt off on the treadmill. How fair was that? I don't mind watching Dr. Oz while … (5 comments)

home sweeter home: EVO, 232 CHANDLER STREET, WORCESTER - 07/31/10 02:29 PM

Voted one of the Worcester's best restaurants, my husband and I finally tried EVO on 232 Chandler Street, Worcester. Supposedly EVO is unlike any restaurant in this area, and we had heard so many good things about it. With us both being on diets for our weight loss challenge, this restaurant offers a variety of dishes for the Vegetarian, Vegan, or Gluten-Free consumers. The restaurant is located almost at the corner of Park Avenue and Chandler Street in the Living Earth building.
For starters, we had each a drink and ordered the Stone Baked Avocado Tuscany Salad for $10. The … (2 comments)
