Thankful Thursdays - Nothing Like a Great View! - 03/25/10 06:30 PM
I was out with a buyer and one of the houses we looked at was on this street and this was the view.  I snuck away for a minute and snapped a picture because it was just so pretty.  If you look at the clouds from that day it almost looks like there was a hole in the clouds and directly above the blanket of clouds the sky was a beautiful blue.  It was freezing cold that day.  I was extremely rushed in taking the picture but it still captures the beauty of the day and the mountains in the distance. … (23 comments)

Crazy Busy and I love it! - 03/24/10 06:18 PM
This is the longest I have been out of touch in awhile and I am in withdrawal!  However it is a good thing because I have been crazy busy-the phone has been ringing off the hook and I feel so blessed to be so busy.  I have been working til 8 pm almost every night for the past several weeks and feel it catching up with me.  However I will have some interesting news to share in the very near future.  Some intriguing changes possibly ahead.  More to follow...!

Come out and Support the Minisink Valley District Teachers! - 03/24/10 05:46 PM

For those who haven't seen the papers and don't know about the layoffs, the Minisink Valley School District has just laid off 24 full time teacher's aides.  They have announced that 31 Teaching and Support positions are to follow.  There will be NO ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS CUT!  (WHAT???) What does that mean to our children?  Larger classes which means less one on one time for those who need it among so many other changes.  The teachers have been working without a contract for over a year on top of everything else.  If you feel strongly about this and would like … (2 comments)

New Lead Paint Requirement goes into Effect in April 2010 - 03/24/10 05:17 PM
In April 2010, federal law will require that contractors and maintenance workers be trained to protect pregnant women and children from high levels of lead. The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting Program requires contractors and maintenance personnel to be certified, and their employees trained. They must also follow protective lead-safe work procedures when renovating, repairing or painting activities that would disturb more than six square feet of lead paint in a room or where 20 square feet of lead paint is disrupted on the outside.
Workers are required to hang warning signs, to keep occupants out of … (3 comments)

18 People Died Today! - 03/15/10 02:15 PM
Last night I had the tv on to Extreme Home Makeover while I was finishing up some work and at the very end I realized the family they were building the home for had to have been people waiting for organ donations.   I happened to hear them say in passing the tv that an average of EIGHTEEN PEOPLE DIE EVERYDAY JUST BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T RECEIVE THE CALL that they have an organ for their transplant.
I am not real familiar with organ failure but I do know that the lists are long for those waiting for transplants.  I did not realize … (11 comments)

Are your Clients Smiling with Your Service? - 03/15/10 12:58 PM

Via Kathy Toth Ann Arbor Real Estate (Keller Williams Ann Arbor Market Center):
Take the Coke Test.  Are clients delighted with your service? Wouln't it be great if they found your delivery to be excellent?  Wouldn't it be great that they wanted to share your name with everyone? The Happiness Machine," brings to mind the insanity of Willie Wonka's candy factory: Happiness pumped out in the form of chocolate, bubble-gum, schnozzberries, and golden tickets. Maybe that vision isn't so far off. Coca Cola has launched an online video that's gone viral, dubbed "The Happiness … (4 comments)

The Rain Keeps Falling - 03/14/10 01:02 PM
Right now we are getting pounded with heavy rains and have been since Thursday of this past week.  I had to go on a showing appointment a little while ago and took these photos on my out and back.  I was astounded by the flooding that is taking place right up the street from my house.  I saw the flooding on the news last night in New Jersey and certain areas have been just devastated by rising waters.  Two weeks ago to the date almost we were pounded with almost 3 1/2 feet of snow and now we have gotten over … (13 comments)

Dr. Ronald Israelski In Haiti - On His Own - 03/13/10 05:45 PM
Today my husband was glancing through the newspaper and came across an article (worth the read) about a Doctor with whom we are both familiar.  This Doctor took care of my broken ankle which was my first broken bone ever when I was in my 30's.  He then took care of my broken foot (same foot) several years later.  In the interim he did several knee surgeries on my husband on alternating knees.  We thought he was terrific then and terrific now to go to Haiti on his own and donate his time and effort to help those that needed it … (12 comments)

NOMINATE THE HEROES OF THE WINTER 2010 STORM - 03/12/10 11:51 AM
Here is a great way to reward the people who helped us during that terrible snowstorm just two weeks ago from Senator Bonacic.  Click on the link and nominate those usually nameless, faceless people who help us everyday.

The recent snow storms created hazardous conditions throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskills.  I know many people were impacted by this. My son lost power on Thursday and did not regain it until the following Monday night, and I know that story was repeated throughout our region. Anytime disaster strikes, many people, both volunteer and paid, play a key role in keeping … (13 comments)

Can’t Sell And Buy Your Dream Home? Build Your Dreams Into The One You Own - 03/11/10 02:23 PM

What great advice from John Mulkey!

Via John Mulkey, Housing Guru (TheHousingGuru.com):
With many homeowners unwilling to accept the prices being offered by today’s buyers, some have taken the remodeling approach. If the reason you wish to move is to have a new kitchen or bath, or to have additional space, remodeling may be just the answer.

Today is a great time to remodel, and the changes just might make you fall in love with your home all over again. Materials and labor are at extremely competitive prices, and the government may even help foot the bill by providing … (6 comments)

Pictures from the Big Snowstorm of February 2010 - 03/07/10 10:38 AM
Finally here are some pictures from the snow storm that I would have posted last week but I had no internet connection.  Today the sun is shining brightly and is melting the snow!  YAY!  Spring cannot come soon enough.  When I took these pictures it had been snowing for 2 1/2 days straight with no let up.  There were people in our county that had no power whatsoever for over a week.  It was the worst storm we have seen since April of 1997.  Since we were snowed in for four days I couldn't get pictures of this but heard from … (9 comments)

Keeping Your Cat from Clawing your Furniture - 03/06/10 03:02 PM
This is a follow up post to the keeping cats out of your plants.  I saw alot of complaints about scratching furniture, clawing wires and things of that sort.  I tried everything for those things too and of course nothing works.  Training-nope! Spraying "smell bad sprays"-nope! Moving the furniture around-nope! Piling the couches with stuff to keep the cat off-nope! Re-organizing wires etc...-nope! One day I was running out the door and I found a new problem solver quite by accident.  For every one of those problems.  You are going to laugh but I promise you, it has been working for … (20 comments)

NO DUTY TO DISCLOSE - Why you should choose your Buyer Agents Carefully - 03/04/10 11:30 AM
The following is an excerpt from a court case in which a court ruled that the seller bank HAD NO DUTY TO INFORM THE BUYER that the city had previously purchased a portion of the property.   No Duty to Disclose Prior Purchase
A Missouri court considers whether a lender had to disclose that the city had purchased a portion of the front yard in order to widen a road.
ABN AMRO Mortgage Group, Inc. (“Lender”) obtained a residential property through foreclosure after the prior owner had defaulted. Prior to the default, the city of Kansas City, Missouri (“City”) … (19 comments)

Why You Should Look Into Refinancing - 03/04/10 09:14 AM
If you have been thinking about refinancing your home there hasn't been a better time to get started.   Rates are at an all time low with shorter term loans available.
Homeowners whose equity situation is deteriorating should ask their lender for help.  They will be able to find the flexibility (if any) in government programs which are aimed at reducing rates for owners in weak equity positions. FHA efficiency mortgages give consumers an opportunity to refinance into a loan that helps pay for home efficiency improvements.   This is a great way to cost effectively lower utility bills through … (3 comments)

How to Keep your Cat out of your Plants - 03/03/10 12:11 PM
When I first got my cat she was always sleeping in my one plant no matter what I did.  I think it is because she found security there.  Now luckily she sleeps in her bed and I have no more problems.  I recently came across some things that could help for anyone else that might have that problem.   There are several things you can try:
Put netting over the dirt so the cat can't get to it.  You can still water and feed the plant. Sprinkle lemon juice into the plant.  It won't hurt the plant but the cat … (12 comments)
