Beating Procrastination

If you’ve found yourself putting off important tasks over and over again, you’re not alone. In fact, many people procrastinate to some degree – but some are so chronically affected by procrastination that it stops them fulfilling their potential & disrupts their careers.
The key to controlling this habit is to recognize when you start procrastinating, understand why it happens and take active steps to manage your time and outcomes better.

What is Procrastination?  In a nutshell, you procrastinate when you put off things that you should be focusing on right now, usually in favor of doing … (25 comments)

What a great video - Check it out! Like the Black Keys? - 06/26/10 03:24 PM
The other day I was getting dressed for work and just happened to put on the tv to VH1 and saw this hilarious video.  I haven't had VH1 on in months, maybe even in more than a year.  Usually when I am getting ready for work I am rush rush rush but that morning I was in the mood for some good music.  Most of the groups that came on I wasn't even familiar with so that told me how long it had been since I have seen the music video channel.  This particular group I am not familiar with but … (15 comments)

Negotiating Advice for Buyers and Agents Alike - Some Perspective from my 13-Year Career - 06/25/10 07:39 PM

Great advice for buyers in this market from Jason Crouch.

Via Jason Crouch, Broker - Austin Texas Real Estate (512-796-7653) (Austin Texas Homes, LLC):
One of my favorite things about being a real estate broker/agent is helping my buyer clients to negotiate the best deal on the home they have chosen.  Having represented hundreds of buyers over my 13-year career, I've found that each situation is unique, and that's part of what I enjoy.  The mental challenge makes it....fun?  That may be too strong a word to describe it, but the strategy part is intriguing to me.

Thank You Active Rain and William Johnson - 06/25/10 04:25 PM
So I have been missing 'round the neighborhood lately because I have been sick and in between I have been crazy busy with Real Estate.   That is always good news!  I am finally at a point where I can stop in and start catching up on "stuff."   Mostly because I miss it like crazy but shhhhh don't tell anyone.   So this week I had an unfortunate incident with my treasured camera and needed to get a new one pretty quickly because what is a good real estate agent with out a good camera?  Now, you are looking at someone who knows … (19 comments)

Do you Remember These Cars? - 06/18/10 07:14 PM
Occasionally around here you will see the smart cars and they look so funny because of their size compared to the other cars and SUV's.  Then I saw this video and could not stop laughing.  I definitely would not want to drive this on the roads in the United States.  I think a big horse could squash it!  Look at this video and how amazingly small this car is from 1962.  Would definitely be a great way to get around on the sidewalks of New York City if you didn't feel like walking all day!  LOL

Don't Get Locked Out Of Your Garage - 06/17/10 02:08 PM

A great reminder from Reuben Saltzman.

Via Minneapolis Home Inspections - Reuben Saltzman (Structure Tech Home Inspections):

Check out the photo below.  Can you guess what's missing?  Here's a hint: this garage doesn't have a service door, but it does have a automatic garage door opener installed.

If you said "pizazz" you would be correct, and you might also make a good home stager, but that's not what I'm talking about today.  This door is missing an emergency release.
If the power went out, the GFCI outlet inside the garage tripped, or the garage door opener failed, the owner would be … (9 comments)

YOU DID WHAT?? YOU WILL NEVER SHOW ONE OF MY LISTINGS!! - 06/16/10 07:53 PM
In speaking with a co-worker today I was horrified by what she told me.  She made an appointment for one of her listings with an agent who wanted to show it to her buyer.  Good news right? The agent took her buyers to the listing, showed them around and then LEFT THEM AT THE LISTING AND WENT TO HER NEXT APPOINTMENT.  She told them to lock up when they were done.  Along came the owners, and thinking there had been a break in had a minor confrontation.  Luckily my co-worker's sellers were understanding and totally realized this was not her fault.  … (26 comments)

As I rolled toward 200,000 points over the last couple of weeks I was a little down that I had never had a featured post.  I find it very hard to blog but always try and do my best.  Once I had passed 50,000 points I never really even thought about the featured posts because I got them all the time in the various groups I am in.  Then last week I logged on and I had gotten my first featured post!  I was excited but then I realized I wasn't as excited as I thought I would be.  I came … (21 comments)

Ten Best Buyer Behavior Practices
Many things we read in the blogosphere inspire creative writing ideas.  I recently read a blog post about an agent who felt so abused by the actions of a buyer she thought a "Buyer Code of Ethics" should be initiated.  I too, have felt the sting of a buyer not thinking the real estate agent was a "human being" so … (5 comments)

Advice For The Home Seller: Stage It Before You List It - 06/12/10 07:57 PM
Listing a house before staging is like going to a business meeting in your bathrobe and slippers. You need to make a great first impression. Think of it as a beauty pageant where the best one wins — or in the case of a house for sale, the best gets sold.
The first five to 10 days a house is on the market is the time of the most foot traffic between buyers, agents and brokers, so why not show the property at its best?
Sure, staging will help if you wait 30, 60, 90 or more days to help market … (8 comments)

Drunk Driving - When have we had enough? HAVE YOU HAD ENOUGH? - 06/12/10 03:16 PM
I was supposed to be going to a Real Estate appointment with one of my agent co-workers today when I got a text last night saying she would be unable to make it.  Her daughter had been involved in a horrific car crash.  A DRUNK DRIVER who was speeding up Route 17 in New Jersey careened into a car driven by someone who was trying to avoid him and was unable to; when hit the car went spinning out of control and across two lanes to hit my co-worker's daughter's car head on killing the driver of the car that hit … (14 comments)

Are You Looking at ME? - 06/11/10 07:59 PM

Real Estate Agents Obligated to Answer Census Workers? - 06/06/10 08:16 PM

Recently NAR received reports that brokers and agents have been contacted by individuals claiming to be U.S. Census workers requesting information about the owners or occupants of properties that the brokers or agents have listed for sale. In some cases, these reports indicate that the Census workers aggressively sought from brokers or agents such information and may have even advised that the brokers or agents were legally obligated to provide such information about property occupants.   NAR contacted the U.S. Census Bureau to learn more about their practices and the duty, if any, of real estate professionals to provide information … (157 comments)

Keep Your Goals in Front of You - 06/05/10 06:26 PM
Why not create a Dream Board?

What is it?  A dream or vision board is a way of creating a visual representation of a goal(s).  It gives you something tangible to focus on.  This can help you strive towards it.

Why is it important?  When working towards a goal, it is really important to have something to visualize.  A dream board makes your dreams and goals physically present.  Looking at your dream board every day will build more energy towards those goals.  You will enforce your desires and arrange your priorities.  Whether your dream is of financial freedom, your … (8 comments)

Don't Hate Me Because I am Beautiful! - 06/04/10 03:59 PM
Is this not the most gorgeous cat?  Several days ago I posted the picture of a cute little dachshund puppy and had several people ask me what was next to the puppy.  Well this is what was next to the puppy but I wasn't ready to reveal until today.  Both animals belong to a friend of mine who is slowly accumulating a small farm.  LOL  She now has 3 dogs, several cats and a bird.  Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the cat so I apologize for that.  But I couldn't resist posting the picture because she is absolutely gorgeous!  … (21 comments)

Do You Hide From the Truth? Or Is it Just Foreign to You? - 06/03/10 07:36 PM

After getting their attention which took me a minute or so, I said "You hit me!"  They said "I did not!"  This went back and forth for a moment so I told them to please get out and check out their car embedded in mine.  The person did and said "I … (16 comments)

Held Captive By Clutter? Time To Act! - 06/02/10 06:30 PM
This topic is something that can make or break a well-designed room.  I'm talking about clutter.
It doesn't matter how much time or money you spend on decorating.  It doesn't matter how lovely the pieces are in each room.  It doesn't even matter how clean the house is.  If it's cluttered, it won't look good and it won't feel good.
Dealing with clutter takes time. Be realistic and learn to let go of things that are no longer serving any purpose in your life. It can be stuff you want to get rid of but have not taken the time to … (5 comments)

With summer more than on its way, here are a few ways to help with higher utility bills:
Change to a programmable thermostat - perfect for year 'round use and for every degree raised in summer and lowered in winter you will save on utility bills. Seal all air leaks around doors, windows and air conditioners with weather stripping. Make sure your ceiling fans have been switched to the counter clockwise direction which will give the rooms a cooler feel. Turn off and unplug anything that may generate heat or may not be in use during the day or evening.  … (5 comments)
