hud: What Part of "Equal Housing Opportunity" Don't You Understand? - 11/08/10 09:04 AM
There seems to be a big disconnect from reality on the part of real estate licensees who complain about having to adhere to Fair Housing laws. Is it Altzheimer's? Dementia perhaps? We start our prelicense training from day one learning the words "Equal Housing Opportunity". It's part of the Realtor Code of Ethics. Those of us who take required Continuing Education courses are regularly informed that we need to be aware of Fair Housing law. We learn from our broker about the fact that HUD enforces Federal Fair Housing compliance, just as other government agencies enforce public compliance with all sorts of laws, whether they (5 comments)
hud: Interview With HUD Enforcement Division Spokesman - HUD Monitoring the Internet for Fair Housing Violations - 10/17/07 06:52 PM
After several weeks of telephone tag and email exchanges, I was granted a telephone interview today with Bryan Greene, HUD Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Enforcement Division in Washington, D.C. I had earlier forwarded by email a list of questions for HUD that were submitted by Active Rain members in mid-September. The HUD official had the opportunity to look these over and therefore he was prepared for my questions in advance. Since so many of the questions from AR members were anecdotal, Bryan suggested that all questions related to specific incidents or how to deal with a specific request from a consumer should be directed to the (41 comments)
hud: “We’re Coming After You” Says HUD Spokesperson - 09/28/07 01:52 PM
CBS Radio reported today that HUD is reporting higher levels of housing discrimination complaints nationwide than in recent years. A HUD spokesperson stated that many such complaints have come from the area hit hardest by Hurricane Katrina. HUD declared its intent to crack down on violations of Fair Housing laws and to engage in greater enforcement efforts dealing with Internet advertising that contains discriminatory language. Elaborating on the report, the spokesperson commented about Websites which post tenant vacancies and which occasionally include housing advertising language which discriminates against the elderly, families with children and minorities. She commented that HUD is aware of these (8 comments)

I have been granted an interview with an official from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sometime this coming week. My goal is to relay to HUD the many questions I've encountered here from AR members as a result of my recent blog post on the subject of Fair Housing laws and enforcement issues. The answers I obtain will become material for a future post on the subject. If you have anything you wish to ask HUD about Fair Housing issues as they pertain to real estate licensees or consumers, please contribute your questions here. I will forward an unedited copy of these questions to the HUD (22 comments)
hud: Is it Condoning Racism to Ignore It? It's Time to Speak Out on Fair Housing Laws and Issues! - 09/11/07 07:03 PM
The inspiration for this post came from another by Charles McDonald, who contributed "Why is my Agent so Vague?" yesterday. Charles wrote on an extremely important topic, Fair Housing Laws and the importance of complying with them. I urge you to read Charles' post and to pay particular attention to the comments that were contributed by Active Rain members! A few weeks ago, I read another blog post by another agent on Active Rain who wrote that she'd been approached by a client and asked to provide information which would violate Fair Housing Laws. She was asked "Is this a mixed neighborhood?" and she chose to (86 comments)

Consumers and Real Estate industry professionals alike should be aware of yet another offshore fraud scheme involving a phony buyer and fraudulent efforts to tap into a Seller's home equity. This one came to the attention of one of our agents from an Internet lead on one of our company websites. I would like to thank Brian Langhorst and Meghan Barry of LuxuryRealEstate.com for their assistance and advice in learning more about this type of fraud attempt. One of our agents reported that he was contacted by this scammer two days ago. The scam artist behind this type of fraud scheme uses a Yahoo.com email address, which is (5 comments)
