I haven't had a lot of nice things to say about Zillow in the past, but I have to give them credit for what looks like a promising buyer inquiry. Today, I received an email from an American citizen living in the Malay Archipelago region. He has been browsing Lake Superior homes on Zillow and came across one of our Madeline Island waterfront listings that he found intriguing.
Apparently, this buyer prospect first found us on Zillow, but he has also been watching (4 comments)
The folks at RealBird have announced their video tours appear to receive preferential treatment in a Google Video search. We've noticed the advantage in our own searches. Originally, only YouTube videos were showing up at or near the top of our Video searches, but it appears RealBird property videos are gaining on YouTube (or surpassing it) in a Google Video search. The RealBird property websites receive a thumbnail icon, which is displayed next to the search result. RealBird keeps innovating and staying current, which is one of the reasons I recommend (0 comments)
youtube: Using your Flip Camera on a Windy Day? How About Using a Windscreen? - 10/08/10 10:08 PM
Recording engineers and sound crews have been using foam windscreens over microphones and headphones for nearly a century. So why can't you use one on a Flip video camera? You'll have to make your own, as I don't think the Flip people sell these. Fortunately it's easy to do.

I found this to be a really simple solution to a problem that you may have encountered while shooting real estate videos outdoors. I've had this problem when taking video on Lake Superior on a windy day. The sound of the wind (6 comments)
youtube: Choosing the Best Frame Rate in a Microsoft Photo Story Slideshow - 10/08/10 09:11 PM
If you use Microsoft Photo Story in your real estate marketing, you know that it's a versatile and easy-to-use tool that allows you to assemble a property slideshow in minutes. I've seen some really beautiful slideshows and others that were just plain awful. I love Photo Story because it's so easy to use and it's easy to upload these Photo Story slide shows to YouTube as well. A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing real estate virtual tours on YouTube and found one for a million-plus dollar home. To my surprise, the photos changed so rapidly that a viewer could scarcely take in any (2 comments)
youtube: Has "Everyone" Seen Your Listings? - 09/24/10 09:24 PM
Since I work in two states, I have broker friends on both sides of the border. And brokers do commisserate from time to time. They compare notes and complain about the slowness of the current real estate market. So it came as little surprise when a broker colleague with another firm called me the other day to cry on my shoulder a bit. It seems he's frustrated with a particular listing that won't sell. At one point in the conversation, he said "I just don't understand why my listing won't sell. Everybody's seen it!" Everybody? Okay, how good is your marketing (5 comments)
youtube: Syndication Helps, but it's not Enough - You Need to Drive Visitors to Your Virtual Tours - 09/21/10 11:47 PM
The hottest new Virtual Tours boast about syndication and that's swell. Syndication is fine, but you will find that you're going to have to contribute your own effort if you want to draw visitors to your virtual tours. For example, TourFactory boasts about syndication to YouTube, Trulia, Zillow, Home Debut, Move, Homes.com, Facebook, Virtual Tour Hotsheet, Oodle, Blinkx, Vast and Hotpads, among other sites. This is an impressive list, but some of these sites just don't get all that much traffic. TourFactory puts your virtual tour on YouTube for you, but the YouTube ownership is theirs, not yours. You can't customize (6 comments)
