BLOCKBUSTER On The Block: A Business Lesson For REALTORS and Lenders - 01/28/11 07:40 AM
Blockbuster on the block:  "STORE CLOSING ~ ENTIRE STORE ON SALE ~THIS LOCATION ONLY"
The problem?  It's not "this location only." One by one, Blockbuster stores in Tucson are closing.  And it's not just Tucson...
A Consumer ShiftSeptember 22, 2010: WSJ's Mike Spector writes "Blockbuster Inc. is in the final stages of preparing a long-awaited bankruptcy-court filing, marking a milestone in consumers' shift away from brick-and-mortar video stores to films delivered by mail and the Internet."
Blockbuster filed bankruptcy the next day.  Chances are very good that you helped put them in the tank.  "Me?" you say.  Yes, you!  ...and me, … (93 comments)

Another World: After Dark in the Tucson Mountains - 01/27/11 12:16 AM

~ Another World In The Tucson Mountains ~
There's no other description that fits so well...  The Tucson Mountains after dark are another world.  The sense of quiet peacefulness is created by the ridge of ancient volcanic rock separating me from the City of Tucson.
Here there is the yip of a coyote enjoying that same moon that tugged me away from the comfort of my home in Tucson Estates II.  The yips crescendo into a chorus of answering coyotes, howling at that big yellow moon.
Tonight, the TV is off.  I didn't bring my I-Pod.  Give me, tonight, what … (28 comments)

Amazing Sunset from Tucson's Reddington Pass - 01/17/11 07:21 AM

~ Reddington Pass Sunset ~
Tucson, AZ
I took this photo almost ten minutes after sunset, long after the bright colors had faded.  I was high in the Rincon Mountains east of Tucson, on Coronado National Forest land.  Below me, the city of Tucson was a patchwork of pinpoint lights thirty miles wide.
I didn't have a tripod set up, so the photo below is a little blurry.  You can get the sense of place from it, though, and see the "watercolor" sky as day fades into dusk.

CONGRATULATIONS ACTIVE RAIN! 200,000 MEMBERS! - 01/17/11 06:04 AM

Active Rain just hit a milestone ~ 200,000 members!
I've been keeping an eye on this number as it moved up, and was guessing that we wouldn't hit this number until Valentine's day.
When I joined (with 100 total points,) in July of 2007, there were 41,000 real-estate-related professionals in this wonderful community.  (EDIT: I may have that number wrong; see Mike Jaquish's comment below)
How did I find AR?  I found it in an article on Inman News.  Reading that article, I thought to myself "I'll bet I can do this.  I wonder if it will bring me … (20 comments)

Harris Hawk On The Hunt: The View from Tucson's Reddington Pass - 01/17/11 12:11 AM

~ Harris Hawk on Saguaro ~
"Looking for dinner"

I hiked this afternoon in Reddington Pass, high in the Rincon Mountains that border the city of Tucson on the east side.  This Harris Hawk and two of her friends were looking for something to eat.  They weren't very interested in me, so long as I stayed in my Explorer, and I had the opportunity to capture this photo.
Harris Hawks hunt like wolves ~ in packs, dominated by an Alpha Female.  When they kill prey, they share the spoils.

Gotta Love Jim Rohn! "You Can't Get Rich by Demand. You've Got To Be More Valuable!" - 01/16/11 05:33 AM
Jim Rohn is one of my all time favorite motivational speakers!
You'll like this; get a cup of coffee, settle in for a few uninterrupted minutes, and recharge your batteries.  "Learn to work harder on YOURSELF than on your job!"  You'll walk away with a more positive attitude.

Arizona Canyon Moon: Exploring the Verde Valley - 01/15/11 06:54 AM

~ Verde Valley Canyon Moon ~
Somewhere between Clarkdale and Perkinsville, AZ
You can drive from Clarkdale, Arizona to the old mining ghost-town of Perkinsville in an hour and twenty minutes, but why would you?  The canyons of Arizona make you want to pull over on the side of the road, get out and explore, preferably with your camera.
Spectacular scenery draws visitors from around the globe to the old mining towns of Clarkdale, Jerome and Cottonwood.  Look on the map, and you'll find this area is southwest of one Arizona's better known destinations, Sedona.

Beautiful Arizona Sky: The Chiricahuas In Winter - 01/14/11 09:10 AM

~ The Chiricuhuas In Winter ~
Near Portal, Arizona
This peaceful scene is my current wallpaper on my home computer.  I took the photo last Saturday at about 9:00 in the morning ~ just about the time that Gabby Giffords was setting up Congress On Your Corner in the parking lot at the Safeway in Tucson.  Remember her today in your prayers.  She's making remarkable headway in her fight to survive!
Feel free to right click on my photo and use it any way that suits your fancy.  I appreciate you!

Good Morning, Sunshine! What A Beautiful World! - 01/12/11 07:01 AM

 ~ Good Morning, Sunshine! ~
Just in case you hadn't seen it before, THIS is the "crack of dawn."  :)
Saturday morning saw me in Portal, Arizona, scoping out this tiny (60 residents) picturesque town that is a birding mecca for thousands each year from around the world.  The mountains in the sunrise photo are in New Mexico; to get to Portal we drove into NM, headed south toward Rodeo, and then turned west on Portal Road.  This ranger station, closed for the winter, sits at the entrance of one of the world's most beautiful canyons.
If you haven't checked … (22 comments)

A View From The Nest: Momma Owl's Perspective - 01/11/11 10:45 PM

~ Momma Owl's Perspective ~
Every nest ought to have a view.  Mine does.  So does the hollow of this Mexican Blue Oak tree, scarred, scoured and burned out by lightning.  Lightning storms in the desert are fearful events.  I've watched a lightning strike devastate a hundred-year-old saguaro, leaving the green living cactus a burning stump.
The western screech owl knows nothing of the devastation that formed her protective home.  It's cool and dry in the hollow, and her babies will be secure in the darkness of the nest.  Life goes on.

Crossing Guard On The Road to Onion Saddle in the Chiricuhuas - 01/11/11 02:07 AM

~ Crossing Guard, Arizona Style ~
I'd never hiked the east face of the Chiricahuas until this past Saturday.  I met a friend at 5:00 a.m. at the Triple T Truck Stop on Interstate 10, and we drove east for two hours to the New Mexico line.  From there we drove south 1/2 hour on Route 80 until we came to the road to Portal, Arizona.  (Right you are; we had to drive west back into Arizona.)
Portal, Arizona isn't very big.  Maybe 60 people live there, and not all at once.  We stopped downtown to take a photo of … (9 comments)

Congress On Your Corner ~ Representative Gabrielle Giffords - 01/11/11 01:12 AM

~ Congress On Your Corner ~
~ Gabrielle Giffords ~
I haven't been able to blog since Saturday.  This evening, though, it became clear to me that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was doing what all of us, of every political persuasion, want from our representatives, and I want you to share this thought with me.
Gabby Giffords was making herself available to her constituents.  She was listening to their concerns.
Whether, like me, you're a Republican, or you're a Democrat, Libertarian or Independent, you have to admire what this Congresswoman was doing in the Safeway parking lot on Saturday … (49 comments)
