marketing: Are You in Prison? - 04/02/08 09:46 PM
Are you in Prison?
What do I mean by that?
When a person is in prison, they are locked up, confined to limited quarters, food, water, cigarettes, day to day, same o same o, basically survival.
We can also be in prison even though we are FREE. Are you depending on the same o same techniques, the daily grind, confined by our own thoughts and the same way of doing business?
Rich Jacobson proposed the question in a post about Seth Godins book, the Purple Cow a few weeks back. It actually didn’t get as many comments as I … (91 comments)

marketing: Monopoly and Marketing - 11/01/07 12:53 PM
As Realtors we have different busy seasons, I'm sure it is different in different parts of the country, but in Ann Arbor, and all of Michigan our busiest selling seasons are Spring, Summer and Fall. In the winter months, with cold and snow, the market, even a sellers market slows down. A wise Realtor will prepare for the season and store up for those months when the buyers are not so plentiful. When I first became a Realtor in 1995, that was impossible to do..........I lived commission check to commission check.
Remember the Aesops Fable about the Ant and the Grasshopper? Basically, … (104 comments)

marketing: My Favorite Technology and Time Saving Tools - 04/19/07 05:31 AM
October of 2005, I purchased a ''Tablet P.C''. I chose the Motion Computer because of the long battery life. I can recharge with my key board at night and go all day without having to return to the office.
I use a data modum card with it so I can log on anywhere... no more running to Starbucks or elsewhere to log on.
This has increased my business productivity many ways, when I am out with clients in the car and we pass a house that was not on  their list of homes to view and they ask, " Why wasn't this house … (79 comments)

marketing: Activerainers Post on InmanWiki - 04/17/07 04:46 PM
Attention all activerainers !! Inman news is offering a opportunity to post on there Inman Wiki each week with a new topic. This week they are offering us a opportunity to post on a new online service or application that changed the way we do business.
Since there are so many unbelievable idea's from activerainers out there, I wanted to mention it to everyone interested, as it would be so much fun to write about the great tools we use and hear from others.
So let's hear about the online service or application that has more changed our business? Is it a tablet … (3 comments)

marketing: Mentioning Others gets them on Google - 04/14/07 08:04 AM
I have had a nice surprise this week, two people that I mentioned in a blog post about RE/MAX RU contacted me and told me when they googled their name, my blog put them on page 1 of google. Here is the post I am referring to. http://activerain.com/blogsview/55462/R-U  One is John Chinello at RE/MAX International and one is Dan Troup at RE/MAX Michigan. Both are IT people and not really blogging so it was a nice surprise. We all like our names in print, don't we ?
That is a nice bump or shall we say viral marketing. I went into google … (47 comments)

marketing: Raining on Our Parade - 04/12/07 04:34 PM

Message from the National Association of REALTORS®, Public Affairs
April 11, 2007-Must be something about these April showers that brings out the wet blankets. First Vivian Marino, a New York Times reporter moonlighting for PARADE Magazine, tells her readers that the first of the biggest real estate myths is that you don't really need a licensed real estate broker to sell your home, and the second biggest myth is that your broker doesn't want to get the highest price for your home.
C'mon Vivian, we know you know better. Suggesting that a homeowner go it alone in most locales today might qualify … (5 comments)

marketing: Questions on Zillow ? - 04/10/07 05:59 AM
This morning I opened my email and one of the feeds I get is from Sellsius. The question was being proposed about Zillow posting questions for the home seller or lisitng agent and the posting on Zillow. You can read the entire article here.
It was good food for thought but overall scary ? So much for fudiciary responsiblity to the seller. Here are a few of the questions:
1) Why are you selling? Just did a Pfizer listing appointment yesterday. My seller said, " We don't want anyone to know why we are selling "
2) Has it been listed before ?
3) Have … (24 comments)

marketing: Paying for Leads, Part 3 - 02/19/07 04:40 PM
Ok, please somebody tell me I haven' t  just been on the phone with someone, smokin' something.
I received a call, very nice lady that wanted me to talk to their President on Internet marketing and this new product. Ok I'm always interested in the "NEW" product, but iI'm thinking could this really be something new ? Anyway, bottom line is it is a NEW company, they could not show me what the site would look like. They are trying to recruit Number1Expert's from their sites. Maybe because they know we pay alot of money for the sites. Anyway, they are selling … (15 comments)

marketing: Internet radically changes how buyers, Realtors Operate - 02/12/07 12:04 PM
This is the headline on USA today's paper for February 9th, page B 1-2. I don't usually read USA today but since I was in Traverse City for a RE/MAX Michigan convention, I grabbed one up.
Interesting enough, RE/MAX is the 3rd most searched web site, after realtor.com and homegain.com. On those 2 lead generation companies you pay to receive leads. RE/MAX gives the leads to their agents without a referral fee. Of course your listings are all on realtor.com for free, but let's face it, if you don't pay for Enhanced or Showcase Listings your listings get no pizzaz, or they … (0 comments)

marketing: How Much Does Free Really Mean ?/ - 12/12/06 05:45 AM
I'm puzzled.....what is the VALUE of FREE ?
No I'm not a deep person, just curios what you might think. Here's where I'm coming from. I manage a RE/MAX office in Ann Arbor, and the last office meeting we had in November, I encouraged all the agents to sign up for a Point2Agent web site for FREE. I have been using it as one of my 5 sites for about 2 years. Last year I upgraded to the professional because I wanted to be able to add all my listings to it, not just the 7-8 or allowed on the FREE one. … (66 comments)
