technology: Tech Savy Realtors - 04/17/09 01:31 PM
I like this quote, not sure where I got it, but have had it saved in my files for awhile. When I first got into the business, the buzz word was realtors were not going to be around anymore. That was scary just starting my career. Now we have found that the internet doesn't replace us at all but those agents that use the internet ARE replacing those that don't. Look around your communities and see if that is not true ! I know some agents that are still using AOL for their email and rarely check it. What's a

technology: Search Me... new Search Site. - 03/11/08 08:02 AM
Tech Crunch announced on Twitter this morning a new search site, called Search Me. The difference in this search site is that it returns visual searches instead of just words. Here are two demo's so you can see how it works. You can sign up to be a beta tester here. With $31 Million invested from Sequoia, DAG Ventures and Lehman Brothers it is a site to keep your eyes on. It looks pretty cool to me with all the web pages to look through. It was created by Randy Adams and John Holland. Both pretty impressive resumes.

technology: A Great Way to Help your Buyers & Sellers - 03/07/08 01:14 PM
My web-master suggested a new site to me today so I wanted to share it with all my friends here. It is called Walk Score. You can add any address where any of your listings are, or where your buyers are considering moving and it will give you the score for walking distance to groceries, drug stores, hardware stores, coffee shops, movies, schools, bars, parks, libraries and bookstores, including the distance to them. In Ann Arbor, people love to be within walking distance to down-town and the University of Michigan. So those homes will typically sell for a higher price per

technology: Time vs Money Organic or Pay-Per-Click? - 11/10/07 04:27 PM
Many of us have posted how we are now being found on search engines because of the exposure of Activerain. Jonathan Washburn wrote a post a few weeks ago on the Dirty Little Secret of Activerain. Go read this, if you haven't already done so. Jonathan is the CEO of Activerain and you should be subscribing to Jon's blog anyway. One particular thing that caught my eye in Jonathans post was he said, "Over 75% of the people coming to Activerain are coming from the search engines. I recently wrote a post on how my Google results have improved 100 fold

technology: Ann Arbor, MI Google Search Results - 09/24/07 02:50 PM
Do you check to see how you're doing on your SEO results ? (SEO is Search Engine Optimization) When I first started blogging on Activerain in December 2006, I was clueless to how it all worked. But, I joined groups, read posts, followed instructions from fellow bloggers and grew. My web site MissyCaulk.com was buried so far down in the organic searches that I finally gave up looking when I hit page 49. Forget it.......who looks 49 pages down to find a house or a Realtor. I have owned this site and domain for 9 years and was still really no where

Yesterday, William Johnson, wrote a post titled, You've Got Mail. The post was about using Microsoft Outlook. I responded to his post, because I love OUTLOOK. I have been using it for about 7 years as my main contact manager. I asked William to consider starting a group on Activerain for people wanting to share ideas and learn Outlook tricks. So he thought it was a great idea and he started the Outlook User Group. If you use Outlook, or in many cases tried to use Outlook and want more tips and interaction please join us. Most of you have heard of Outlook

technology: One of the Most Under Utilized Training Programs - 07/11/07 06:31 AM
RE/MAX International is a great company to work with and be affiliated with. The training and education is beyond belief. One of the most under utilized perks we have is all the training available. No one holds your hand to use these programs, but they are available and a tremendous resource for all the RE/MAX agents. There are numerous ways to learn at the RE/MAX University. We have had our own RE/MAX Satellite Network (RSN) for years, with T.V's in every office, where you can come in and take a class or watch a program. You can also just get the Dish and

technology: Do you fit NAR's Profile ? Do you fit Activerains ? - 06/12/07 07:50 PM
Demographic Profile of REALTORS® Real Estate Practitioners are a diverse group. WE are diverse in our business practises, our area's we practice in and our activity on Activerain. Today's REALTORS® run the gamut in terms of age, prior profession, and years of experience in the real estate business. But results from the 2007 NAR Member Profile indicate that: The typical REALTOR® is a 51-year-old white female. She has attended college, is married, owns her home, and lives there only with her spouse. The typical REALTOR® has a household income of over $100,000. The typical REALTOR® votes in both national and local elections.

technology: I Can Save You 9 Hours Guaranteed !!! - 06/08/07 05:57 AM
Yesterday, I, Missy Caulk,Realtor from Ann Arbor, MI, woke up to this little message in my ALERT BOX, flashing and telling me I had a security alert that needed attention. So I clicked it on and got a blank page. I then went about checking 198 emails moslty comments had been made on blogs in activerain blogs I was following. I then went back and tried to get rid of that little annoying security alert again. So I clicked it on to fix and it was once again a blank page. However, this time I realized it was probably bogus, so I copied the URL and

technology: Staying In Touch With Clients - 05/25/07 06:32 AM
Plaxo is a new product I use to stay in touch with my clients. It is not NEW, but it is new to me. Plaxo 2.0 is a free download that synchronizes all your contacts and keeps them current. Don't ask me how it does it, that is better left to Karen George, Jeff Turner or Neal Bloom. All I know is it is a great time saver and keeps all my data current on both my Desktop and Tablet P.C. Plaxo integrate your calendars, tasks, notes in Outlook, 9 (which I use), or Outlook Express. The feature I use most is the tool bar

technology: Violating Can-Spam Act Can Cost You Up to $11,000. - 05/21/07 08:39 AM
The Can-Spam Act covers advertising through email your products and services. Here is a summary: The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 (Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act) establishes requirements for those who send commercial email, spells out penalties for spammers and companies whose products are advertised in spam if they violate the law, and gives consumers the right to ask emailers to stop spamming them. The law, which became effective January 1, 2004, covers email whose primary purpose is advertising or promoting a commercial product or service, including content on a Web site. A "transactional or relationship message" - email that

technology: An Internet Lead Bears Fruit - 05/15/07 06:15 AM
"High Tech, Personal Touch" is a slogan I have been using in my email signatures for many years. "Old Fashion Service with Modern Technology" is a slogan I use on my web site for Ann Arbor, MI. Recently Jeff Turner wrote a post on You Engaging Others and not worrying so much about Search Engine Results. But, taking care of the people and engaging them. Yesterday and today, I am working with a buyer that was just another internet lead from one of my sites, 10 months ago. Yes, I said 10 months ago. We met for the first time face to face,

This post is inspired by Jeff Turners post on Like A Dark Cloud, When Comments Get Ugly and Personal. That post has been rumbling around in my mind all day. So I was thinking........... I use Google Alerts to keep up with what is being said About Ann Arbor Real Estate, Saline Real Estate, Missy Caulk, Blogs about Ann Arbor and other topics on the World Wide Web I want to be aware of. Here is how it works: 1) Go to Google and sign up for an account if you don't have one. 2) You will have a menu of The Services you can

technology: Leads, Links, Directories, SEO - 04/25/07 05:50 AM
Not sure how I found myself there this cold, rainy morning in Michigan but I landed on this site called Majon.com. It is a SEO company and they are recognized from the Better Business Bureau. They have lots of credible clients. I know on activerain and elsewhere I have heard that google hates link directories or link farms. So I don't usually get intrigued by them. However, this one kept me around looking and reading. They give out awards you can put on your web site. They aren't realestate specific, like some of the ones I have on my AnnArbor-Houses site. There is

technology: My Favorite Technology and Time Saving Tools - 04/19/07 05:31 AM
October of 2005, I purchased a ''Tablet P.C''. I chose the Motion Computer because of the long battery life. I can recharge with my key board at night and go all day without having to return to the office. I use a data modum card with it so I can log on anywhere... no more running to Starbucks or elsewhere to log on. This has increased my business productivity many ways, when I am out with clients in the car and we pass a house that was not on their list of homes to view and they ask, " Why wasn't this house

technology: Mentioning Others gets them on Google - 04/14/07 08:04 AM
I have had a nice surprise this week, two people that I mentioned in a blog post about RE/MAX RU contacted me and told me when they googled their name, my blog put them on page 1 of google. Here is the post I am referring to. http://activerain.com/blogsview/55462/R-U One is John Chinello at RE/MAX International and one is Dan Troup at RE/MAX Michigan. Both are IT people and not really blogging so it was a nice surprise. We all like our names in print, don't we ? That is a nice bump or shall we say viral marketing. I went into google
