Yesterday saw a large group of Massachusetts Realtors converge on Beacon Hill to meet with their local legislators to discuss real property issues.   One point of this event, that is overlooked or not given enough emphasis, is the full role of the Realtors.

As one may expect, the Realtors are there at the State House to highlight the point of view on potential legislation from the Real Estate Professional's perspective.   The Realtors are also carrying another banner with them, that of every consumer in the state who will be effected by real property issues.

No one else is there to recommend higher education requirements for real estate licensees, to ask that additional state taxes not be put on property owners when they sell, not impose new state taxes on private property owners when the rent out their home or an apartment, protect landlords and tennants property in an eviction situation.

One of the best presentations on personal branding, was made by Dan Schawbel at the MAR Technology Fair.  At 25, Dan is a master of a skill we all need as real estate professionals. Check his blog http://personalbrandingblog.com

It was good news that we received this past week about our local real estate market.  Although both the nation and statewide trends still show negative numbers, we're in one of those areas that is defying the trend.  Our local area of Quincy, Milton, Hingham had sales increases in January, along with parts of Suffolk and Plymouth Counties.

Not only have the agents in our office, Century21 Annex Realty, been reporting more activity, but so has our affiliated real estate school.  Enrollment in Annex Real Estate School has also picked up since the beginning of the year.  This has been especially true of the pre-licensing class that prepares students for the Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson exam.

Well, it's such a short title for a Blog Post: e-PRO.  This past weekend I finished the e-PRO Course online, passed the final exam, and was approved  for the designation.  I don't mind bragging, a little, as this was something I real wanted to get.

Having spent many years at my first career in elelctrical engineering, I have had mixed feelings about the technology that I have seen being used and abused in real estate.  So, when the position of Chairperson opened up for the Marketing and Technology Committee at my local Association of Realtors, I thought about volunteering.  I have already been on this  committee as a member, since it's inception.  Once I decided to volunteer to Chair the committe, I also resoved to take the course.  I went to hear Saul Klein's presentation on the benefits of the e-PRO Program.  I was convinced that I would have a real professional advantage by taking the course.  My deadline was this coming March15th and I made it.  So can you! And if you would like to see my certificate, you can click here: And, if you want to learn more about taking the course, here's a link to my referral site

Some time ago I wrote that at Annex Real Estate School, we were running classes for Boston Red Sox Fans. Because we are located in Quincy, Massachusetts, this would be a good time to invite New England Patriot fans to take a Massachusetts Real Estate License Class.

The Patriots got to where they are by getting good training and by practicing at their game. If you want to be good at real estate, the same is true!

At Annex Real Estate School we run pre-licensing classes to prepare for the Massachusetts state examination. The classes are taught by experienced real estate brokers who are also approved by the state to be real estate instructors. The classes are taught in the environment of an active real estate office. Not only do the students get a good education in preparation for the exam, but also benefit from the real knowlege and background of the instructors.

Another difference at Annex Real Estate School is the classroom text material. At Annex Real Estate, two professional textbooks, published by Dearborn Publishing, are used in the lessons. These texbooks represent the most up to date material. Two textbooks are used. The first book, Modern Real Estate Practice, is used to study for the General portion of the examination. The other book, Massachusetts Real Estate:Practice and Law, is the study material for the Massachusetts state section of the examination.

If you know of anyone who is interested in getting their license, have them call the school at 617-773-ALSO (2576) or email the register at AnnexRealEstateSchool. You can also have them check out the website of the SCHOOL .
On the "ABOUT page, there is a brief explanation of the licensing process. Just like the New England Patriots, you can be a winner. Learn the rules of the game, practice, and win!

Last weekend, we were very busy teaching a Massachusetts Real Estate Salesperson pre-licensing class at Annex Real Estate School in Quincy, Massachusetts.   Of course, the Patriots game on Sunday was on most everyone's mind.  Well the Patriots came thru for us and so did the class.  As they were leaving on Sunday evening, we all felt good about the class we had completed as well as the score on the game!

Now, this coming weekend, January 26 and 27, we will be running two days of Continung Education Classes.  In Massachusetts, in order to maintain their license in the Active status, all Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons must take 12 hours of Continuing Education in the two year period between license renewals.  (Massachusetts Attorneys, who may be licensed as Real Estate Brokers, are exempt from the continunig education requirement).

If this is a good time to purchase Real Estate, then it is also a good time to get into a real estate career.  That is why we still see new students who are studying to become licensed Real Estate Salesperson, and current Salesperson licensees who want to become Real Estate Brokers.  Like the number of sales, the number of candidates is also down. But, we see a different attitude on the part of today's student.  Todays students are more enthusiastic about the field and plan to be in it for some time.  As a consequence, there are still students for a quality class.

Please do not hesisitate to foward the information here to a friend or an acquataince who are interested in becoming a licensed Salesperson in Massachusetts or want that extra somthing by getting their Brokers license.
