An idea has been brewing for quite some time in the mind of Valerie Ing-Miller of Jefferson Public Radio, she's teamed up with the Cascade Theatre to create a "Dinner and a Movie Night" for every Wednesday in January. The idea here is that people would get out and have fun while putting our beautiful Cascade Theater to use during the week.  The twist? Cooking demonstration on stage at the end of the show! This piece hosted by Doni Greenberg of Food for Thought: A News Cafe!
Each week a food-themed movie will be featured providing the audience a "taste" of the actual movie … (7 comments)

localism: Sweet Cookies with Sweet Friends - 12/20/08 05:05 AM
This has now become an Annual Tradition...my sister-in-law puts together this fabulous Cookie Exchange party and the girls go crazy (including myself). After-all, what's a Christmas party without cookies right!

This year I went for the Gingerman Cookies! And I have to say they turned out pretty darn good. Each year, the ladies show up with their 2-3 dozen cookies and an empty tray for their exchange...we have some social time, talk about our recipes and whatever makes them unique then we munch on! Oh, well...diet begins January 1st!

And yes...I'm keeping it local.
Enjoy whatever it is that you are doing - and have a beautiful weekend!

localism: An Interview with a local Home Stager - 11/15/08 02:32 PM
Home Staging is an art and very few people can appreciate this form of art.  Interestingly enough it is still a relatively new marketing tool that in my opinion is not fully embraced by sellers and many of us real estate agents. I'm always fascinated by the ability of a home stager to transform a simple part of a home into a sophisticated and inviting one. Dena Badger is a friend and a fine professional in the business of Home Staging, today I catch up with Dena as I interview her for my Business of the Month article.
Q. What made you go into Home … (5 comments)

localism: Redding, CA ~ Simply a beautiful place to live - 09/19/08 01:08 AM
For most people, quality of life comes first. After several years of living in a city, you can truly appreciate the difference of living in a smaller, roomier town! Redding is just that type of town...although it's smaller than the surrounding metro areas like San Francisco, Reno and Sacramento, Redding offers big city amenities with a relaxing and friendly atmosphere.  Simply a beautiful place to live!
Where is Redding located? We are located at the north end of the central valley, just a short two hour drive north of Sacramento and three hours east of Eureka and San Francisco.  We are nestled … (1 comments)

localism: Say "adios" to your rabbit-ears TV - 09/13/08 04:12 AM
Most of you already know that if you have an analog television, (roof-top antenna or "rabbit ears" on the TV) you will soon have to get rid of it.  As of February 17, 2009 these type of TV's will be of no use, everyone has to convert to digital TV. This was a mandate by Congress, that all television programming must be digital after Feb. 17.  However, if you have an analog television, you will need a digital-to-analog converter box to continue to watch broadcast television on that set. This converter box will also enable you to see any additional multicast programming that your local … (6 comments)

localism: Great Thai Restaurant in Redding CA - 08/29/08 01:20 PM

Thai food is one of our favorite foods and when it comes to food we're always trying out new places in search of real authentic food.  We found one..., Redding's newest Thai restaurant. A small restaurant but oh so good! This place is authentic, delicious and very affordable!

Kanya  Gardenopened its doors five months ago and is quickly developing a loyal clientele. Chef and owner Mouang Saechao (a long time Redding resident) is excited about her new restaurant and is ready to wow customers with her amazing dishes.
We've become regulars here and Chef Saechao never disappoints us! She … (6 comments)

localism: Tierra Oaks Redding CA - 08/27/08 12:37 PM
I was out and about today and decided to capture these photos for you to get a feel of what Tierra Oaks look like.
Tierra Oaks is in Redding and it's devided into two sections, one is the golf course section and the other side (East part) is the non-golf course section and it has a more of an equestrian feel to it (just like this photo). It's not uncommon to see horses around and houses typically sit of 2-5 acres. This is one of those areas ideal for "Sunday Drives", just to see and admire.
I will do a separate post on the "golf-course" … (2 comments)
