HEADS UP, Fellow Southwest Louisiana REALTORS! Read what this Illinois Mortgage rep has to say about blogging.... (Told Ya So!)
Via Larry Bettag - Cherry Creek Mortgage:
I've been coaching my friends to get Active in Active Rain.  My success has been well documented.  To date, since joining I'm now well over 65 referrals that I've received either through other members or via people planing in the rain.  Very stoked about my results, and, as a proponent, I push this often and hard.  I tell my people that Active Rain is one of the most valuable methods for getting exposure.  Since I lead a … (4 comments)

Bring on the Rain AND B.J. Thomas! - 06/29/10 09:11 AM
Lake Charles could use some rain. Maybe this song from the 70's (or was it the 60's?), made famous in that wonderful bicycle scene in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, will help to "bring it on."
I love the gentle lyrics in "Raindrops keeping falling on my head." Some years ago, B.J. Thomas performed in Lake Charles and I was lucky enough to have front row seats!
"I'm never going to stop the rain by complaining..."

Proper Pooches, Lake Charles Dog Trainer Sally Stride - 06/28/10 01:26 AM
I guess the following comments about a Lake Charles dog trainer can be considered a PAWSITIVE review of a local business and its owner.
The business....  Proper Pooches.
The owner .... Lake Charles dog trainer Sally Stride.
To my knowledge, Sally is the only certified dog trainer in Lake Charles. Her certification comes from the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
Her commitment to her clientele and to the dogs comes from her heart and a long-time love of dogs.
Her services include obedience and house training, proper household manners, and more, including the correction of destructive behavior such … (12 comments)

The 127 page book, Soci@l: attract friends, followers, and connections to your business, was written by Ben Kinney with Jay Papasan. It can be easily downloaded and read directly off your PC screen or printed.
Before my formal "review" of Chapter 1, a few comments:
When I noticed a "tap into the movement" at facebook.com/socialthebook AND an invitation to join #socialthebook on Twitter it was comforting to note that the authors are practicing what they preach! Notice to Lake Charles Real Estate Agents....Margaret Place listing coming soon! - 06/25/10 12:58 PM
I'm quite fortunate to own 5 properties in Margaret Place. While I know that I'll never achieve minimalist status, I would like to achieve less "baggage."
Currently, I have a window of opportunity to sell my Grove Street home, SUBJECT TO A ONE YEAR LEASE which is in process. At today's rates, the lease should cover the house note.
This post is designed as a test to see how many local readers may have interest in my home, pool, and apartment.
I am also contemplating the sale of 112 Dr. Michael DeBake Drive. (NOT my office).

Kudos to the Lake Charles Transport System - 06/25/10 11:08 AM
I do not know Cathy Miller, but if today's front page article in the American Press is an indication of her will, she is on my want-to-meet list. She is the chairperson of the transportation committee of the Mayor's Commission on Disability.
And, from what I understand, she has been a champion for those with disabilities for some time.
As reported in today's American Press, here are some recent examples of improvements to the City of Lake Charles Public Transport system:

Cat Lovers! Read, Relate, and Smile - 06/23/10 01:03 PM
Only Anne Drake can make someone want to adopt a cat or dog, kitten or puppy based solely on her well crafted dissertations about life with one of her foster animals.
The following is her inital e-mail to a rather extensive list of fellow animal advocates followed by her response to my request for permission to post on AR:

Loving Southwest Louisiana....Crabs and Redfish! - 06/22/10 03:06 PM
I've always found that the social aspect of getting together to enjoy a meal of fresh and personally caught Louisana crabs is as good as the crabs themselves. Last night was such an example during an impromptu, eat-em-over-the-sink-cause-we-can moment. My friend George prepared 5 dozen crabs and cleaned some beautiful redfish, all fresh from a catch earlier in the day by a mutual friend.  Like life in Southwest Louisina, the fishing and crabbing is fine and no, we do not have oil on our beaches.

Louisiana Drivers! Why wait until August to stop texting while driving? - 06/20/10 04:33 PM
No disagreement from me. The picture tells the story.
Via Derenda Grubb (CENTURY 21 Bessette Realty, Inc.):
Governor Jindal recently signed a bill that gives police the authority to stop a driver for texting while driving. The new law goes into effect on August 15th. Until that time, law enforcement officials can only cite a driver for texting while driving if they are pulled over for another alleged violation. Why wait until August 15th?  In the split second that you attempt to read, or create a text message, the accident you cause can result in a collision with horrible consequences.Hopefully, the $175.00 fine … (2 comments)

Tribute to Myrtle Chambers - 06/19/10 09:16 PM
Sadly, I was unable to attend the funeral for Myrtle Chambers today, but wanted to post a tribute to an awesome and memorable lady. I first met Myrtle over 30 years ago through friends who have since moved away.  Myrtle was an integral member of their household in that she baby sat, cleaned, shopped, and cooked for my friends as well as others. They, like most others lucky enough to employ Myrtle, treated her with the respect and love she was due.  Fortunately, one of the major "others" is my next-door neighbor who retained Myrtle's services for even longer than my … (2 comments)

Thanks, Lake Charles Air Conditioning company, AIR CONDUIT! - 06/19/10 08:12 PM

"Strawberry with cream, please". - 06/17/10 04:07 PM

One of the pure pleasures of summer is a good snow-cone.  When I'm out and about during the day, it is not uncommon to visit one of my favorite snow-cone stands. They are all over the area so it is not hard to take a break from the heat by enjoying an old fashioned snow-cone.

Developers, Take Note! Land in Lake Charles offers major potential. - 06/16/10 08:56 AM
I've been monitoring the progress of the proposed port access road and bridge over Contraband Bayou for some time. Both have been in the planning stages for over 30 years.  I became especially sensitive to the progress when I became the listing broker of Old Barbe Woods and the property on the corner of Lake and Sallier. A savvy real estate developer looking for land in Lake Charles could strike a bases-loaded home run with this location!

In the next few weeks, I'm betting Tony will be convinced it was the right decision and invites us both out for drinks at my favorite hang out to say thanks!
So, help me out in my pursuit of a trip to DeAngelos by welcoming Tony Cornner!

Should the AKC accept my Cajun Terrier in this weekend's dog show? - 06/11/10 12:32 AM

If so, lots of questions:
Should I get his hair cut?
Does he have to behave?
Will the competition change him?

My private awards program! - 06/08/10 02:07 AM
Before I get to the purpose of this blog, a couple of insights: 1) I've never been a fan of "contests" wherein a company or organization is named "Number One" based on some sort of "reader poll."  One reason for my disdain is due to information provided by a former employee. This employee had previously worked at a much larger company (not real estate).  She provided details as to how she fulfilled the part of her job description which was to make sure xyx company "won" the coveted "Best _____________!".
