Home Sales Show Strong Gains in July 2012 - 08/30/12 04:58 AM
July was another strong month for home sales in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire*. 29.5% more homes of all types—condos, single-family, and multi-family—sold in July of this year compared to July 2011 in Massachusetts. In New Hampshire, there was a 52% increase in sales of all home types.
This is the seventh straight month we’ve seen an increase in monthly home sales in 2012 when compared with the same months in 2011. FHFA Announces New Short Sale Guidelines - 08/22/12 12:29 PM
Acting Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Edward J. DeMarco announced new, clear guidelines for short sales yesterday. Among the new guidelines is one that will allow homeowners with a Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac mortgage to do a short sale even if they are current on their mortgage if they have an eligible hardship.

Foreclosure Prevention Bill Becomes Law - 08/06/12 04:18 AM
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick signed a bill into law Friday to help prevent homeowners from unnecessary foreclosures if they are eligible for loan modifications.
The compromise version of the bill, “An Act Preventing Unlawful and Unnecessary Foreclosures,” requires the bank to send notice to the borrower at risk of foreclosure about their right to pursue a modified mortgage loan. A copy of this letter will go to the Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office.
The borrower must then respond to the bank within 30 days on whether they will pursue the loan modification, another alternative to foreclosure such as a short sale or deed in … (0 comments)

No Principal Reduction for Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac Loans - 08/03/12 08:32 AM
Principal reduction on underwater mortgage loans owned by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac will not be allowed, FHFA acting director Edward J. DeMarco announced July 31. DeMarco’s statement is a response to congressional inquiries as to whether he would direct Fannie and Freddie to allow the mortgage principal reduced on homes whose values are less than the amount owed. DeMarco concluded that the Home Affordable Modification Program Principal Reduction Alternative (HAMP PRA) program would not make a “meaningful improvement in reducing foreclosures in a cost effective way for taxpayers.”
