Taking a Closer Look at Staging.... - 09/29/08 02:48 PM
We are in the process of renovating our training website, www.StagingAndRedesign.com with that comes a whole fresh new look at staging services. I've been working on photos the last few days and I wanted to show you how sometimes photos can really change when you take a closer look... This is a nice photo, but nothing that would ever really end up in my portfolio. It's just not interesting enough..... Taking a closer look adds a lot more interest.... Same house, looking into another room from the family room. It wouldn't make the before & after cut most

A Color A Day: Secondary Colors - Part 2 of our game... - 09/29/08 11:00 AM
This is much the same as the first part when we chose our favorite primary colors. Now I would like you to tell me your favorite (of the ones listed) secondary color. I'll make my list and report back the results just as before. This time, if you played the first round, please also add whether you were originally Yellow, Blue or Red so we can have more fun later..... As before, please pick the color you are most drawn to - where your eye can not help but go.... this may or may not be your favorite color.

A Color A Day: Were you a RED? - 09/27/08 10:22 AM
I'm so impressed with the number of people who responded to my blog, A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game..... With over 120 responses, it's clear that people LOVE color!! This blog is for those who chose red. In case you don't remember, it wasn't about this being your favorite color. It was about being the color your eye was uncontrollably drawn to. If you picked it because it was 'your favorite color' this may not apply to you. Go back and look at the three primary colors and notice which one you are drawn

Who is going to the IRIS Convention in two weeks? - 09/26/08 02:31 PM
I am so excited about going to the IRIS National Convention in two weeks!! I have heard from some of you who are going, and others I'm still wondering about. I think one of the best things about this event will be getting to meet some of my AR buddies! Non IRIS members are allowed to go this year, so if you are looking for a national stager/redesign convention, why not go to this one? There is still time to register! The conference dates are October 8-10, but my team will be there from the 6-11th! Maybe we should take one

A Color A Day - Your first lesson, actually more like a game..... - 09/26/08 11:00 AM
Since I've started my journey into color I wanted to share some of it with you. Of course I'm not going to give it all away, I want you to want to know more, but I'm going to attempt (subject to my crazy schedule) to post some information about a color every day for the next 12 days or so - enough that you'll be amazed at its accuracy and be dying to know more! Today we are going to start off with the personality profile.... Start by choosing which color you MOST prefer (which one your

My Journey into Color - Who wants to come along? - 09/25/08 10:03 PM
I've been out of town a good part of this week, learning about color. Much of it I have known for a while. I have always made it a point to enhance my knowledge on the industry. This week, however I went for Dewey Color Certification to become a Dewey Color Instructor! This means that for those of you in the south (or elsewhere if you really want to travel) I will be able to enhance your business skills by offering both the 1 day Coordinator course and the two day Color Consultant course! I look forward to continuing

SCRealtor Trade Show - Incredible Success - Thank you SC Realtors! - 09/24/08 07:51 PM
This week Bevin Googer, Susan Hardin and David Moon represented our company at the SC Realtor Trade Show. Unfortunately I could not attend as I was at a Dewey Color Class working on my Instructor Status. (Yeah! Who wants to learn some color?) The feedback from the team was that it was a huge success!! (David was taking the photo & apparently didn't have one taken of him..... slapping him on the wrist for that!) Many agents who we currently work with stopped by to tell us what a great job we have been doing for them. Many new agents

Round 3: What room is this? Answers Revealed --- Finally.... - 09/19/08 07:49 AM
Sorry for the delay on answering this all important question. I have been a staging fool for the last several weeks and haven't even been home until almost (or sometimes after) 10pm for nearly 2 weeks. I have to still start yet another project today & am already booked until October 10th with back to back to back homes to stage - yep, it's our busy season!! (Thanks again David Moon for helping me out so much!!) On with the reveal.... You may remember that I did two mirror image homes last week. These rooms are all from these homes, so

If you can't fix it, then make it work... - 09/14/08 11:54 AM
To quote the immortal words of Tim Gunn, "Make it work" became our motto last week when we had to stage a near million dollar golf course community home in Seabrook Island, SC. This home from the outside had everything going for it. When you entered the home, it was clear why the agents called us into stage it. If you left this home, there are only a few things you would likely remember... and it wasn't the beautiful fireplace or stunning views of the golf course.... It would more likely be... Either the wallpaper (that they wouldn't let

Looks like a million bucks... Well, it does now! Marketing Million Dollar Listings - 09/14/08 11:37 AM
So, you have a million dollar listing? Does it look like a million bucks? If not, I can guarantee you few will want to buy it! This is a home that we recently staged. Tell me, does this look like a million bucks? This is the primary living space of a nearly million dollar home in Seabrook Island, SC. Looking out the windows you may notice that it is on a golf course, which has a lot to do with it's price tag. The built ins and the fireplace are great. Tell me though.... which of these sets of

A tale of two homes... Same floorplan, across the street from each other - 09/14/08 08:57 AM
I know, you probably think this is going to be a blog about how much more quickly one has sold than the other due to staging. The truth is that it is much more than that (to me anyway). These are homes that have been on the market for over a year in one of Charleston's most beautiful settings - Seabrook Island (ok, it's not really in Charleston, rather it is one of our barrier islands). One of my very best agents, you've seen her listings on here many a time - especially followed up by a blog about how quickly

Round 3... What room is this? - 09/14/08 08:30 AM
Last time we played everyone seemed to have a little fun and maybe some consumers learned a little something in the process. Since I have been working like a crazy fool this week on a couple of seemingly never ending projects I thought this might be time to have a little fun with them.... Tell me, what rooms do you think these are? They are all different rooms. They are taken from two different homes myself and team member, David Moon, staged this week. I'll reveal my answers later this week.... Remember, if you don't know.... neither does

Creating Your Own Black & White Artwork - Thanks again Matthew! - 09/01/08 07:10 PM
Ok, I just read a comment by Matthew Finlason on creating your own artwork by changing subject matter to black and white. A light bulb moment really - Thank you! I took a bunch of photos of the lake we like to vacation at. The summer was very warm & dry and the lake had really receded. With Matthew's suggestion, I've altered them to black & white... tell me what you think. Is this 'staging quality'? I actually have a ton more - I like these kind of shots for some reason. Should I log on to
