If you, or anyone you know, have not owned a principal residence in the last 36 months your opportunity to get a free $8,000 gift from Uncle Sam is quickly disappearing. To qualify for the tax credit you must close escrow on a home on or before Monday, November 30, 2009. That gives you about 60 days to find a home and get into contract so you can comfortably beat the deadline.

This is an update to an earlier post I made on this topic.  Now that the details are published by the IRS it is clear that some clarification is in order.
Why does the heading of the article indicate you may not have to be a first time home buyer in order to qualify for the “first time home buyer” tax credit?

Note: At this time the current stimulus plan has only been agreed to by the Senate and the House of Representatives - there has NOT been a final vote yet so details are still subject to change.
 The tax credit (not a tax deduction) will be 10% of the purchase price of a home, up to a maximum of $7,500 or $8,000 depending upon when you purchased.
