Harford County is the place to be this weekend!

You don't want to miss the Seafood Festival in Havre de Grace this weekend. Live music, great seafood, arts & craft vendors, etc. Great entertainment for the entire weekend. Check out the website at http://hdgseafoodfestival.org/ for all the details.

Also in Harford County this wekeend is the Maryland State BBQ Bash in Bel Air. This is such a great time. We are in our 10th year of holding this event and every year it gets better. Parking is a little challenging but worth it. Check it out.

Family Fun Biking on the NCR & YCH Trail

If you are looking for a little exercise, fun and history all in one this is the place to be. The North Central & York County Heritage Trails combine to make for an amazing 41 miles of bike riding. The trail is mostly crushed stone so it's very easy to ride on and it is mostly shaded so it makes for a great ride even on those hotter days of summer.

I have actually had the pleasure of riding the entire 41 miles this summer. I have been riding on this trail for years but never went any further than New Freedom so this year I decided to ride the whole trail. It has been an awesome experience.

Not only is it a nice leisurely ride but there is so much history along the trail as well. Last weekend we rode to Hanover Junction where there is a museum you can visit. I stood on the same platform where President Lincoln stood while on his way to deliver the Gettysburg Address in 1863.

You should definately make sure you have water and snacks for your journey but there are a few quaint cafes along the trail where you can stop for a rest and refreshments. You will be sharing the trail with other bicyclists, joggers, walkers and horse riders so please remember your manners and be sure to let someone know you are coming up along side them so they aren't startled.

There's still plenty of time this year to get out there and get some exercise for your mind, body and soul. Happy riding!!!

You have to check out The Spencer Silver Mansion in Havre de Grace! It is a wonderful Bed & Breakfast right in the middle of the Historic District on Union Avenue. You have the option to stay in one of the nice rooms in the main house or if you want a little more privacy you can stay in the Carriage House in back.

The guest rooms are warm and welcoming and breakfast was amazing. I have been to many Bed & Breakfasts that offer a continental breakfast but here at The Spencer Silver Mansion we had a hot homemade breakfast with all the trimmings.

There are many places on the grounds to sit and relax, visit with friends or read a good book. Not only are you within walking distance of the Concord Point Lighthouse but there are many other things to enjoy in this quaint town. You can take a delightful stroll on the promenade along the waters edge, enjoy shopping in the many antique and specialty shops or enjoy dining in one of the fine restaurants in town.

The new Walmart that opened on Wednesday in Fallston was a welcome sight to many. First of all it filled a need for supermarkets in that area and secondly it will bring in about 750 jobs, most of them full time. The store offers a full grocery section including deli counter and bakery, fresh fruits and vegetables. The store is open 24 hours and is over 150,000sqft. Harford County School Redistricting

With the new opening of Red Pump Elementary School slated to open for the 2011-2012 school year we run into the unpopular situation of redistricing again. The Aegis reported that the second round of changes to the Harford County Public Schools' comprehensive elementary redistricting plan will be posted on the website www.hcps.org sometime Thursday evening.

The public can continue to send comments and proposals to the school board via the elementary redistricting email address, elementaryredistricting@hcps.org. They will accept e-mail feedback on the plan through February. The plans will need to be approved by the school board no later than March 1, 2011.

The Boulevard at Box Hill in Abingdon, Harford County

As the construction continues on the Boulevard at Box Hill I get more and more excited to see the finished product. The project is suppose to be completed around the Fall of 2011. Have you taken the time to drive around the back and preview the massive retaining wall! I don't think I have ever seen a wall of that magnitude.

Not only is there going to be the much anticipated Wegmans but also retail shops, restaurants and office space. It will feature a Main Street design with open air plazas, tree lined boulevards, large sidewalks and beautiful landscaping. There is nothing else like this in Harford County and it's going to be right here in our hometown.
