dillsboro: Can You Wait for Tonight's Post? How About a Teaser for Now? - 07/31/14 10:03 PM
Every morning this week there has been an appointment to get to early.  Prime posting time for me up until now has always been early but I can see I'll have to break out of that habit if I want consistent content!
By blocking out some personal time this past Tuesday, I got to attend a class with the Jackson County NC Extension Service and learn a little about water bath canning.  I have to tell you, it was more fun that social media!
More tonight about that class and an upcoming one on Monday about organic pest control in the … (4 comments)

dillsboro: A Healthy Real Estate Business Takes Work, Courage and Investment - 07/16/13 09:58 PM
I was really looking forward to yesterday and wasn't at all disappointed. There were a couple of house searches to be done for upcoming buyer appointments and the rest of the day was spent in improving real estate marketing knowledge.  Leslie and I are constantly investing towards keeping MoonDancer Realty physically fit so that we can best address the needs of our sellers and buyers.  For us, that means staying educated not only about real estate but also about new technologies and effective opportunities for marketing...a real comprehensive business lifestyle approach and that takes real work and courage.   A week or … (5 comments)

dillsboro: Share Your Good Fortune With The Hungry...Community Table Food Drive - 12/06/12 09:57 PM
Last year I posted an article called "No One Deserves to Go to Bed Hungry" in an effort to promote the food drive for Jackson County's Community Food Table that the Northern Jackson Board of Realtors had taken on as a project.  The need to help some of our fellow citizens still exists and we're proud to report that the NJBOR will again be collecting food and other necessary items.  MoonDancer Realty collected a couple of large boxloads during the 2011 Dillsboro Lights and Luminaires Festival and we are prepared to do it all over again.           … (8 comments)

dillsboro: Back Into the Light of Day - Wordless Wednesday - 08/14/12 10:01 PM
My last couple of posts have been "members only" because I didn't want to bore the public with the spam issues ActiveRain is doing battle with.  Something is working though since there wasn't near as much of it overnight.  Hallelujah!   Spammers must be like cockroaches...they hate the light and that's what I've been trying to shine on them.  But, back into the light of day for me!   To celebrate the minimal presence of the spambots or whatever they are, let me share a couple of flowers from the Historic Farmhouse we have listed.  Patti did tell me the … (14 comments)

dillsboro: This Bud's for You...If You Know What it Is - 08/10/12 12:14 PM
There were two showings out at the farmhouse in Macktown today just outside Dillsboro.  This morning by another agency and this afternoon by me.  Every time I'm out there, I see something new budding or in bloom.   Usually I post the photo and ask the seller, Patti to comment back the identity of the plant.  Not necessary today, I know what this is...do you?  If you don't...make up an identity, that's one of my favorite games!   There is no doubt in my mind that someone will be able to identify this quickly but if you can't, I'll give … (14 comments)

dillsboro: Some Shots are Really Timeless - Speechless Sunday - 07/28/12 10:15 PM
The Office Manager and I were taking the daily afternoon stroll in Dillsboro the other day.  As we approached the town park where the Tuckasegee River meets Scotts Creek, a favorite boat launch for tubers, rafters and kayakers we heard giggles, screeches, splashes and lots of laughter.  All I had with me was my non-smart phone but it was enough to get the type of snapshot that could have been taken at any point since cameras have been invented.   What is more timeless than a swarm of children splashing around in the community swimming hole?       Enjoy … (13 comments)

dillsboro: You Think REALTORS Can Get Hot Under the Collar? ~ Wordless Wednesday - 07/10/12 09:31 PM
Sometimes situations present themselves to REALTORS and we get a little hot under the collar.  Somedays it could be anything, a looky-loo, someone who said yes, of course they've spoken to a lender, another agent doesn't return a call, a closing gets delayed through someone else's preventable fault, a no show appointment, a lister with that house made of gold, the buyer unwilling to compensate a seller for good value...well, that's enough of that, I don't want to start my day out irritated.  This is me shaking it off and breathing deeply.  There's still way more positives about the profession … (16 comments)

dillsboro: Eagle's Ridge Lot 14 - Prepped and Ready to Go - 07/10/12 01:38 PM
There is a lot of vacant land on the market in the mountains of Western North Carolina right now, and it is a pleasure to list a vacant lot that stands out from the pack.
Looking at vacant property in the mountains can be overwhelming for many buyers. The sellers of Lot 14 in the Eagle’s Ridge Development just outside of Dillsboro, NC have made it a little easier by doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Not only does this lot already have a driveway and house site in place and the bank is already hydro seeded , but … (2 comments)

dillsboro: East Fork Happy Shed - 07/05/12 09:55 PM
A few days ago while I was headed out East Fork to pick up some signs and a lockbox, I passed a familiar scene that I’d never stopped to photograph before…the Happy Shed of East Fork. Nope, springtime and temperatures in the 60s would have been too easy. Give me the high 90s, bees, ticks and snakes any old day! Of course, for those people considering a move to the mountains of Western North Carolina our “mountain breezes” actually make for a very cool high 90s and we are legendary for our friendly and well-mannered bees, ticks and snakes.

East … (13 comments)

dillsboro: Property Previewing Perks - 07/02/12 10:47 PM
There are some very good perks for REALTORS when previewing properties.  Even vacant land in the summer has it's upsides.    We're getting ready to list a very nice lot in the Eagle's Ridge community just outside Dillsboro.  The first time I went out to the property it was so overgrown that while I could see where the driveway was I couldn't see the flat lot they had cleared nor the hydroseeded bank.  I took photos and emailed them back to the seller advising that if I couldn't see the house site then buyers probably couldn't either.  Since my purpose … (12 comments)

dillsboro: Eagle's Ridge...Remote, Private & Just Down the Road from Everything! - 06/30/12 11:11 PM
Just the name “Eagle’s Ridge” conjures up a feeling of a remote spot in the mountains so it is a pleasant surprise to find out you can get that feeling without being far away from “civilization”!
So many people come to the mountains of Western North Carolina looking for a little mountain getaway house and why not? We are home to the most visited national park in the country, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Who wouldn’t want to have their own retreat near all of the most popular outdoor attractions in the U.S.?
Our listing in the Eagle’s Ridge Development … (1 comments)

dillsboro: Practically Magic - Historic Farmhouse & Acreage Near Dillsboro, NC - 06/29/12 01:41 PM
This isn’t the first time I’ve written about one of our favorite listings, the historic farmhouse at 1004 Tunnel Mountain Road just outside of beautiful Dillsboro, NC. Usually, I’ve shared the magic of the property and now want to highlight the practical aspects.

This sweet and comfortable farmhouse has the unmistakable “out in the country” feel but is just five minutes from Dillsboro!
Built in 1890 and renovated in the late 80s, there are two welcoming entrances to the house. On the front, enter off the wide deck/gazebo area into the living room or in the back, enter … (3 comments)

dillsboro: Fisher Creek in Sylva, NC ~ So Convenient - 06/25/12 10:13 PM
The neighborhood of Fisher Creek in Sylva, NC is so convenient to everything, it is no wonder so many people want to live there! Even though the neighborhood has a rural feel to it, residents have less than 3 minutes’ travel time to be in downtown Sylva or the Medwest Healthcare System. A five minute drive gets you to Dillsboro or to US74, the main artery to either Waynesville and Asheville or in the other direction to Cherokee or Bryson City.
Whether you are still working, enrolled at either Western Carolina University or Southwestern Community College…or even have children participating … (11 comments)

dillsboro: Ooohing and Ahhhhing in Dillsboro, NC ~ Speechless Sunday - 06/23/12 11:53 PM
The mountains of Western North Carolina are home to orange day lillies all over the place.  This one which is on the deck outside our office in Cannon's Corner is unlike any lilly I've ever seen.  Much showier.  Folks strolling the streets of Dillsboro, NC always stop to ooh and ahh over this beautiful bloom.   … (10 comments)

dillsboro: Disclosure & The Expectation of Privacy ~ For Adults Only ! - 06/19/12 09:59 PM
When REALTORS talk about disclosure and the client’s expectation of privacy, I’m pretty sure these are not the first images that would leap to mind. Yes, this title was a tease and a bit misleading, it really isn’t for adults only ;-D
A few weeks ago, one of our local merchants in Dillsboro took responsibility for a Tadpole Sanctuary in a puddle in a parking lot. Adding water so the puddle wouldn’t dry up and with Leslie’s help placed pallets over the puddle to provide additional protection from predators, cars and the sun. Long story short…the neighborhood changed and the … (8 comments)

dillsboro: Neighborhoods Can Change - 06/08/12 10:17 PM
Do you remember the neighborhood in Dillsboro a week or so ago, it wasn’t exactly lakefront property although to the inhabitants it probably felt like a lake. Well, that all changed a couple of days ago.
Leslie told me she had trouble sleeping one morning thinking about Karla’s tadpoles and the upcoming Rafters and Crafters Festival going on today. She had a vision of covering the water filled pothole with a shipping pallet to keep kids from splashing through the sanctuary or worse someone driving through it. Karla loved the idea and sent her husband to fetch a couple of … (15 comments)

dillsboro: Not Just Any Ol' Pot Hole ~ Speechless Sunday - 06/03/12 01:43 PM
The Office Manager and I took a stroll about Dillsboro the other day.  From a distance we noticed a folding chair in a vacant parking lot by a pot hole filled with water.  A nearby shopkeeper had taped a handwritten note on it proclaiming "Tadpole Sanctuary".       How about that?!     … (15 comments)

dillsboro: Charlie's Story - Alley Cat, Spay/Neuter on Monday Melodies - 05/29/12 08:04 AM
About ten years ago, Dillsboro was overrun with stray cats. At the time, Leslie and I were active with our own non-profit group, S.M.A.R.T. (Smoky Mountain Animal Resource Team) We raised money to assist people with spaying/neutering of cats and dogs. We’re really proud that through our efforts, several hundred cats and dogs were altered who otherwise might not have been. Statistics have shown that in order for every stray cat and dog to have a home, every human would have to have 7 pets. Spay/neuter is absolutely the only humane way to control stray animal population.
I digress, this story … (23 comments)

dillsboro: This Tree Dude Started It All - Almost Wordless Wednesday - 05/08/12 09:48 PM
Today is very exciting, I’m leaving for a trip in a few hours. Before I left though I wanted to transfer the photos from my camera and phone to a flash drive...just because.  Scanning through photos is always interesting…some were in the category of “I wonder what I saw there” and after channeling my inner weirdness still could not find the answer…well, those went bye-bye. Some I left copies on the phone and camera…Lazerkitty who we recently sent over the Rainbow Bridge, a few mountain vistas, the Office Manager and MoonDancer Realty essential personnel, family and tree dudes.

dillsboro: Bee Careful When You Stop to Smell the Flowers - 05/07/12 09:29 PM
Did you know there is a difference in the sounds bees make when they are happily taking nectar from flowers and when they feel an intruder in their midst?
This Clematis is in full bloom up at the farmhouse we have listed just outside Dillsboro, one of many treasures on the property. I was showing the farmhouse a week ago and noticed the Clematis growing by the goat barn. I guess because it was a last minute, I forgot to grab my camera when I gathered up keys and phone, so I used my camera on the phone which is … (47 comments)
