monday melodies: Okay, It Isn't Chelsea but It Is That Kind of Morning. Monday Melodies - 06/26/17 05:03 AM
This morning, here near the Great Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina, we all woke up to temperatures in the 40s!  We are almost at the end of June...and the temperature in Balsam was 49.  A friend on facebook was at Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the temperature was 39.  Weather is so interesting in that a tropical storm a 1000 miles away in the Gulf of Mexico can affect our weather here.  The birds outside are going nuts and that reminded me of the Joni Mitchell song "Chelsea Morning".

The song always reminds me that every … (6 comments)

monday melodies: No Matter How Busy...There's Always Bird Song...Real Estate in NC - 06/19/17 04:59 AM
So...again with the week or so absence from blogging?  What's my excuse this time?  Easy...working for the mantra "Fortune Smiles On Those Who Work Their Bottoms Off".  The last couple of months have been fraught with bottom working for sure.  All of the real estate components at play - buyers, sellers, CMAs, photos, measurements, offers, contracts, listings and client counseling. On the personal front, there's been a "project" to complete with an area of the house - finally done, yay.  Never mind that it is also planting and growing season in the mountains of Western NC which for me means raised beds, keeping … (3 comments)

monday melodies: Crisp and Clear, Straighten Up and Fly Right! - 09/13/15 11:14 PM
Weather is rarely a surprise anymore, predictions are made so far in advance.  Here in the mountains of Western North Carolina we can certainly have variety from one county to another, from the valleys to the mountains and from the towns to the country.  Today though, we all woke up to crisp and clear weather.  It is an extraordinary morning.  This may not have been a surprise but it is unusually early for this kind of weather.
The thermometer showed 39 degrees today. No wind and now the sun is out and things will warm up nicely and quickly.  This morning when … (4 comments)

monday melodies: Cane Creek Ridge, Mountain Lots in Sylva, NC - 09/06/15 10:43 PM
Cane Creek Ridge is only one of many mountain communities tucked away amongst the ranges of Western North Carolina and it is one of my favorites.  People who choose to locate their home in Cane Creek Ridge all have one thing in common, they want privacy and the splendor of the mountains but they don't want to be isolated.  Located conveniently between Sylva and Waynesville, NC, Cane Creek Ridge supplies exactly what these folks are looking for.

All of the lots are a minimum of 2.5 acres, providing plenty of privacy buffer and the experience of living surrounded by nature but the … (3 comments)

monday melodies: Time is Tight for Monday Melodies - 08/30/15 10:22 PM
Some weeks, it seems that there is plenty of time to book everything I need to and no big deal if someone is late or grrrrrr a no show but not so much this week.
Everyday I will have a couple of written in stone events to attend and they aren't all located within a city block.  This is the country and sometimes nothing is close together.
This week starts off with the people I trust the most with taking down some of our very big, very old and very ailing trees.  Jeff Polson's company Western Carolina Tree Company will be here shortly … (6 comments)

monday melodies: A Little Pressure Canned Heat - Monday Melodies - 08/09/15 10:49 PM
When most people think of pressure cooking or canning, all they can remember are mothers, aunts, and grandmothers stressfully saying "get the children out of the kitchen!".  My family dabbled in canning but I don't remember anyone using a pressure canner.  Still, the pressure canner is a little intimidating looking and it doesn't help that stupid terrorists have used them for making homemade bombs.
Whatever...we started gardening this year and working really hard to improve the quality of foods we eat.  Part of the equation is preserving what we grow.  We purchased the pressure cooker a year ago. My big plan was … (3 comments)

monday melodies: Like Fine Wine, We Should Get Better! Content Matters! Monday Melodies - 08/10/14 10:10 PM
Back when I was an AR newbie and unfamiliar with the whole point system and reason behind it, like most newbies for a little while I was prone to post anything.  Thankfully, that didn't last long because how boring would that be?  Then, thanks to AR University and Bob Stewart, I learned that content matters.  Yes, I do post music videos (or try to) on a weekly basis to a group I founded "Monday Melodies" and on the surface that might seem like an easy post.  It really isn't.  The music matters but I try to deliver relative content … (14 comments)

monday melodies: Tornado Warnings in Western NC? Really? I Can See Clearly Now Though! - 07/27/14 10:02 PM
We had an extraordinary light show in the mountains of Western North Carolina last night into the wee hours of the morning.  Facebook was crazy with local people reporting in with the storm locations.
This morning the world looks like it was photoshopped in green, everything is so lush and the garden looks very happy.  Some areas had terribly high winds but here in Balsam I believe we were spared that frightening occurences.
So here we are...ready to start a new week.  This song was hugely popular when I was a teenager, some younger people may think of it only as … (1 comments)

monday melodies: Morning Has Broken and Maybe Healing My Frustration - 06/22/14 10:25 PM
Off and on for about six months, we've been having AT&T internet problems at home.  Since, as this audience knows, Realtors work from home...a lot!  We have it, then we don't.  I'm sometimes ready to scream.  We received an Offer yesterday for one of our listings and had to convey by phone because we couldn't forward the scanned offer.
I called Technical Support about six months ago and spent a few hours on the phone that I'll never get back. It worked for a while and then back to the intermittent stuff.  Because I know if I call the 24/7 "Help … (10 comments)

monday melodies: C'est La Vie, Monday Melodies and Easing Into the Week - 06/15/14 10:11 PM
Good Morning!  This week is full of offers, listings, open houses, Board of Realtor meeting, closings (big thumbs up) and the intrigue inherent with the other not so easy closing.  I gave considerable thought to this week's Monday Melodies post.
My life as a Realtor isn't unlike other full time Realtors, we all learn early on to juggle lots of tasks or perish trying.  Outsiders think they understand all we do but the trick is to make the transaction seem seamless, so most of our work is done outside of the limelight...at least it used to be.  My clients like to be informed … (5 comments)

monday melodies: Working My Way Back to You Babe! Monday Melodies - 06/08/14 09:43 PM
Certainly there is a special shout out and Good Morning to Will Hamm who messaged me that he missed Monday Melodies.  He said I posted videos he likes to start his week off to.  The irony is that I also miss Monday Melodies and it is in my control to return to them.  I just got back a week ago from a wonderful time with my mother and just now caught up on contracts, etc from my time away and now it's time to keep working my way back to you, babe. :-)
Being from the Detroit area makes Motown special … (12 comments)

monday melodies: How to Roll 9 Days of Stuff into 5? Get Started! - Monday Melodies - 05/04/14 09:10 PM
Just like most of my Realtor brethren and sisteren, I've got a ton of stuff to get through this week. As always, I'm grateful for the superhero capes that hang in all of our closets as well as our ability to bend time to our will.   Yeah, right.
It is called time management and many of us do okay with it.  We have several new listings and Leslie is busy creating the Main Street flyers, I've got a number of listing blog posts to catch up on.  We got another new contract over the weekend, so the minutiae associated with it needs … (10 comments)

monday melodies: Football? I Don't Get It but That's Okay...Backfield in Motion - 01/26/14 09:19 PM
Personally? I don't follow football, way too much of head bashing, injuries, gazillions of dollars and idolizing of individuals for me. I plain don't get it but it also doesn't offend me. My brothers and father were all big time football fans spending many Sundays yelling at the television. Thankfully they didn't do the face and body painting of team colors.   Never thought I'd say this but...some of my best friends like football. They are all consumed right now with the hoopla lead up to the Super Bowl.  Right now it seems it is a toss up as to whether … (10 comments)

monday melodies: How Sweet It Is When We Care for Each Other. - 01/12/14 09:17 PM
I woke up thinking about the people in West Virginia suffering from the chemical spill that poisoned their water sources. The government says it should be cleaned up quicker than they originally thought. There are several friends on facebook keeping everyone informed about this catastrophe, far better than any of the networks. Wouldn't you think that even after the government claims the water is "clean", that no one will ever trust what comes out of their taps again?   Not that it might make a difference to someone unable to bathe their children or wash their clothes but I really hope … (7 comments)

monday melodies: Ride the Elevator - Conquer the Things That Scare You, Monday Melodies - 12/22/13 09:40 PM
Okay, shaking off the email this morning that might have put almost $6million dollars into an online account someone in China was ready to open for me... Phoebe Snow has been a favorite performer of mine since I was about 14 years old. Her voice is so earthy and her timing in the songs were perfect. I still can't believe she passed away at such a young age. I can believe she gave up performing to care for her daughter. Her voice always told me that she would be that kind of woman.
This song reminds me that everyday we all … (6 comments)

monday melodies: Waiter, Waiter, Percolator...I Love the Java Jive - 12/15/13 09:36 PM
Waiter, waiter, percolator.... An added benefit from a recent closing was the inheritance of the sellers 40 year old percolator and I've fallen in love all over again with coffee! Everything is more special with that little pot. I love the ceremony and the preparation of the drink. I love the coffee smell permeating the house. Don't get me wrong, I surely loved the commission from the sale but every time I use this coffee pot, I think of the special people who sold the house and the special people who bought the house.

I love the java … (8 comments)

monday melodies: Who Eases Frustration? - 12/01/13 09:16 PM
What can I say? Today seemed like a real hard rock song and The Who always satisfies for hard rock and I choose "Baba O'Reilly" as carefully as I'd choose the right pain medication to ease an ache. This seems like the friendliest way to vent a little frustration out. I listened to it three times this morning and have things ordered in my brain a little better.
Frustration isn't necessarily anger, usually anger is easier to deal with. We have a dog in kidney failure, one we watched being born.  She was part of an 11 puppy litter from a … (9 comments)

monday melodies: I Heard it Through the Grapevine - 11/24/13 09:16 PM

There have been a number of concerts recently that I thought would be fun to attend...until I heard the price of the tickets. Guess I have good taste? or maybe that's what the all cost now. That started me thinking about the first ever live concert that I went to see when I was maybe 15 years old.   I imagine the price of the tickets then were $10 or $15 and that was probably a lot of money for a teenager to spend in the early 1970s. It was crazy in the Miami Sportatorium. We could bring backpacks … (15 comments)

monday melodies: We've All Got to Be Somewhere! Even If It Isn't Nine to Five...Ever - 11/03/13 08:57 PM
We've all got to be somewhere and real estate is not 9 to 5 but the sentiment behind the song sometimes hits home. We've been working like crazy at MoonDancer Realty. We've really had our "working britches" on.  I took a little break from blogging to earn my IMSD (Internet Marketing Specialist Designation) and boy, was that a trip down a rabbit hole. There is so much to learn about Internet Marketing and the thing is...you just don't learn it, you have to morph with it.   Most women remember seeing the movie Nine to Five. I saw the movie when … (12 comments)

monday melodies: Tap Your Toes & Smile ... Monday Melodies - 09/29/13 11:04 PM
Fall is approaching here in the mountains of Western NC. Everyone feels it, the air is just a little cooler and crisper with less humidity. We know it will be time soon to turn back the clocks and lose the hour of daylight so it seems like we are all trying to get as much done as possible as quickly as possible. The dogs and cats are friskier, playing like crazy.
Pretty soon we will be surrounded by the exquisite fall colors and feeling grateful to live where the seasons are distinct.
This is a good morning shout out … (11 comments)
