music: Okay, It Isn't Chelsea but It Is That Kind of Morning. Monday Melodies - 06/26/17 05:03 AM
This morning, here near the Great Smoky Mountains in Western North Carolina, we all woke up to temperatures in the 40s!  We are almost at the end of June...and the temperature in Balsam was 49.  A friend on facebook was at Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the temperature was 39.  Weather is so interesting in that a tropical storm a 1000 miles away in the Gulf of Mexico can affect our weather here.  The birds outside are going nuts and that reminded me of the Joni Mitchell song "Chelsea Morning".

The song always reminds me that every … (6 comments)

music: No Matter How Busy...There's Always Bird Song...Real Estate in NC - 06/19/17 04:59 AM
So...again with the week or so absence from blogging?  What's my excuse this time?  Easy...working for the mantra "Fortune Smiles On Those Who Work Their Bottoms Off".  The last couple of months have been fraught with bottom working for sure.  All of the real estate components at play - buyers, sellers, CMAs, photos, measurements, offers, contracts, listings and client counseling. On the personal front, there's been a "project" to complete with an area of the house - finally done, yay.  Never mind that it is also planting and growing season in the mountains of Western NC which for me means raised beds, keeping … (3 comments)

music: Cane Creek Ridge, Mountain Lots in Sylva, NC - 09/06/15 10:43 PM
Cane Creek Ridge is only one of many mountain communities tucked away amongst the ranges of Western North Carolina and it is one of my favorites.  People who choose to locate their home in Cane Creek Ridge all have one thing in common, they want privacy and the splendor of the mountains but they don't want to be isolated.  Located conveniently between Sylva and Waynesville, NC, Cane Creek Ridge supplies exactly what these folks are looking for.

All of the lots are a minimum of 2.5 acres, providing plenty of privacy buffer and the experience of living surrounded by nature but the … (3 comments)

music: Time is Tight for Monday Melodies - 08/30/15 10:22 PM
Some weeks, it seems that there is plenty of time to book everything I need to and no big deal if someone is late or grrrrrr a no show but not so much this week.
Everyday I will have a couple of written in stone events to attend and they aren't all located within a city block.  This is the country and sometimes nothing is close together.
This week starts off with the people I trust the most with taking down some of our very big, very old and very ailing trees.  Jeff Polson's company Western Carolina Tree Company will be here shortly … (6 comments)

music: Chasing Away, I mean Embracing the Rain...Monday Melodies & ZYDECO - 08/18/13 09:34 PM
For sure it is nice to know that NC has a healthy water table because of all the rain this year, still...more rain today! So, for Monday Melodies I was looking for something to help me embrace the rain...or ignore the rain...but at the very least, not whine about the rain.   ZYDECO!!!!!!!!!! That does it!     Benefit 1: After several days of driving my newly washed car over half of the gravel roads in Jackson County, I've decided to celebrate that today's rain is rinsing all the dust off the car returning it to the "Inferno Red" that I … (7 comments)

music: Starting Monday Off With "The Letter" - Monday Melodies - 08/04/13 10:08 PM
This is what I started my Monday off with. If you are doing any physical fitness in the mornings, try adding this to your playlist. When you are finished you will feel like the week is yours to conquer. Try this song with a hula hoop or stationary bike!   I've missed a couple of Monday melodies but the good news is that the new roof is finally installed and paid for! Looks great and what a relief not to worry about leaks. Having workers here on a daily basis though really messes with a routine. The dog laundry room washing … (9 comments)

music: The 75 and Sunny Attitude. Purging is Good for Business and the Soul! - 07/21/13 09:47 PM
The past couple of weeks you could say I've almost been MIA on this blog and you'd be right. There just hasn't been enough hours in the day. Not only have I been busy with work and education, learning new skills and brushing up on old ones but I've also be putting the office in order to accomodate all this new learning.   Saturday and Sunday were spent purging the file drawer. When we opened MoonDancer Realty in November 2010, we pretty much moved in with the stuff from the previous offices...no time to review before unpacking since we needed … (9 comments)

music: Exercise with Heart and Start Your Week Off with Energy - 07/07/13 09:19 PM
Ever since my sister-in-law Marsha and brother Marlon went to the Heart concert in Tampa, I've been revisiting their music. Marsha even sent me the concert t-shirt and it has been a great conversation starter in the grocery store and in town. They've still got a lot of fans and for good reason. I forgot just how hard their rock was, the boys of rock had nothing on them.   Since it looks like a rare opportunity of no precipitation for the next hour or so, I think I'll take Heart with me to exercise this morning. They will be … (7 comments)

music: While My Guitar Gently Weeps... - 06/23/13 02:21 PM
It doesn't seem possible that it is Monday again so quickly. It was a really good weekend and I hope the same happened for you too.   I heard this version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on the radio recently. I'd never heard this singer before but I'm a big fan of Carlos Santana. This seems like a good song to start the week out with.     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ … (7 comments)

music: Get Your Motor Runnin', Head Out on the Highway-24 Hours is Too Short - 05/27/13 09:31 PM
Okay, so this isn't a Melody on Monday...can we call it a Tune on Tuesday? Sometimes I wonder if I'm interested in too many things. Each 24 hour cycle seems to run its course long before I get to delve into everything I want to.   Now the things I NEED to do always take precedence. Everything to do with real estate gets dealt with first since its all time sensitive. Watching the various blogs, chats and facebook posts I know I wasn't the only one working overtime on making things happen for our real estate clients. I saw photos … (11 comments)

music: Back Home...Let Me Tell You, There's Been No Time. Monday Melody Late - 05/13/13 09:53 PM
Apparently she has a routine and part of that routine includes me. I've just learned that when she's at home my mother gets up, checks the weather to see what she needs to wear for her bike ride. Temps under 60 degrees means a long underwear shirt and a sweat shirt in Port Charlotte. She rides her 3 wheel bike for 10-11 miles every morning and then returns home to get on the computer. She checks email, her banking stuff and reads my blog. So, as you know I've been on this road trip with my mother since last Thursday … (12 comments)

music: Whirlwind Week and Ambitious Schedule - Monday Melodies - 05/05/13 09:54 PM
Whirlwind week this week and that calls for high energy music to kick it all off. It's all good....a closing this week and next, new listings, hopefully an offer, flight to FL, drive to Montgomery, AL, drive to NC, see my family, see some Shakespeare, a live performance of To Kill A Mockingbird, used book stores and thrift shops, squeezing in IMSD webinars and working hard not to let up on the new found obsession of hooping in spite of the ambitious schedule.   Tina Turner and Eric Clapton? That's energy!   Jam packed. I'm not worried though, just breathe … (7 comments)

music: Out of the Rain and Into the Mystic...Rocking Our Gypsy Souls - 04/28/13 09:51 PM
After a weekend of non stop rain since Saturday afternoon, you'd think we'd be all bummed out. But, you'd be wrong. We did have a good time at the Greening Up the Mountains Festival in Sylva on Saturday seeing all kinds of friends out doing the same thing. In spite of the torrential downpours yesterday, I had a good day of showing property and still had several hours for good stuff.  So, I think it seems safe to say we are pulling out of the rain and into the mystic.   There are several projects I'm working on...continuing to work … (8 comments)

music: Hit the Ground Running, It's Monday with Bonnie Raitt-Pride and Joy - 04/21/13 09:19 PM
The ground really needs to be hit running this week. We're juggling several contracts waiting for the blessing of the underwriting celestial beings and in the middle of negotiations for another. There's new listings and older listings that need a fresh look and revamp. That's just what's going on in real estate.
The grass is growing and the John Deere has decided he's not ready to enter his spring phase. He's hidden the cause from me which isn't hard since if the mower doesn't spring to life after turning the key...I've no idea what's wrong anyway. I posted to Facebook … (13 comments)

music: I'd Promised Homemade Cookies and Got Facebook and Hooping Tutoring. - 04/15/13 01:36 PM
Well, you know how it is in real estate...occasionally your time is not your own. Even though I've known exactly what I wanted to offer for the Monday Melody it just wasn't in the stars to post it this morning. I'd made an appointment with someone I know on Facebook to come tutor me a little on managing my activities a little better. In exchange for her help, I'd promised homemade cookies.   After the whole bathroom scrubbing and Sam's Club excursion yesterday left me rather fatigued, I just couldn't get the cookies done last night. Nooooooo, getting up and baking … (11 comments)

music: Think You'll Head to Any Crossroads this Week? - 04/07/13 10:13 PM
This week I'm feeling classic rock and roll. I thought I'd be playing the Cream original version but I couldn't find a live version with good sound. So...a portion of cream works well too. Eric Clapton is never a disappointment.   Listening to Cream always reminds me of living in Albuquerque, junior high years...how corny will this sound? There was a little hangout, a cafe of sorts that kids would go to after school. There was a juke box...a real juke box that took dimes and had this outstanding selection of 45 r.p.m.s I remember selecting Cream most often, unless I … (11 comments)

music: Subtle and Intricate, the Power of Words...Ferron on Monday Melodies - 03/31/13 10:20 PM
"As I stand before you I am hopeful in my rage"...Ferron's lyrics always surprise me with their power.  While I'm being distracted and hypnotized by her guitar she always manages to deliver subtle and intricate words directly to my soul.   So often musicians and artists are some of the strongest heroes in any struggle for social evolvement.  Whether the images occur on their canvas of choice by design or completely unbidden, I don't know, but, they have the power to deliver their messages softly drop by drop or by cataclysmic impression. Since no two humans fully interpret messages the same way, all of … (5 comments)

music: Something Soothing Seemed in Order and I'll Bet You Could Use it Too! - 03/27/13 01:55 PM
It is feeling like real estate from 7 or 8 years ago...well, except now it seems underwriters really do exist.  I needed to end today with something soothing and I was pretty sure I wouldn't be the only one to benefit from Nights in White Satin.   Between the new listings and the contracts (it's almost like making a living again!), the prospecting, the IMSDesignation webinars and homework (Internet Marketing Specialist) - intros to Facebook...Twitter...social media galore, blogging, occasional housework, the snow and cold...I'm feeling stretched pretty thin.  Up until now anyay. I've been playing the Moody Blues while typing this … (5 comments)

music: Start a Conversation...You Might Meet Anna Kline with Grits and Soul! - 03/24/13 10:34 PM
We used to tell the kids who worked for us at our camping and backpacking store, Venture Out, to never assume that they could tell who a person was just by looking at them.  We encouraged them to draw people into conversations if the customer was open to that.  As a result they'd find out things like the 80 year old woman standing in front of them had completed the Appalachian Trail in her 60s, or the guy who came in to buy climbing rope also worked for the Peace Corps in Africa in the 70s, or the shy woman … (10 comments)

music: Reach Out...Send Sheila Anderson A Little Help from her Friends - 03/17/13 10:10 PM
This AR community really cares and right now we're caring about Sheila Anderson.  Anyone who follows Sheila appreciates her no holds barred approach to life and right now that's exactly the attitude she'll need to recuperate from a combination of things, the most devastating being an accident that's caused her to be in the hospital right now.  She's recovering from surgery to mend a very badly fractured ankle coupled with shaken confidence in immortality. She made that particular post "members only", so if anyone is reading this from the public you won't be able to see the article.   These things … (21 comments)
