tree art: Tuckasegee River Travel Trailer Park Tree People - 12/08/12 10:01 PM
Obviously they've lived at the Tuckasegee River Travel Trailer Park for a good long time.  How I've missed them, I'll never know.  I'll bet I go by this park at least once a week.  Tree Dudes and Dudettes are always unique and among my favorite subjects.  This was my first time ever to interview Trailer Park Tree People.   They were very pleasant and quiet, like most of the other subjects in the Tree Dude series.  Like their human counterparts who live in travel trailers, they were a little flashier than most I've met but I wouldn't say tacky...there was … (9 comments)

tree art: Some Creatures Aren't Meant to be Domesticated - 06/22/12 10:18 PM
Some creatures aren’t meant to be domesticated and ought to be allowed to roam freely about their native habitats. Very few Tree Dudes have ever been tagged with numbers and this display of captivity feels to me almost like harboring exotic animals. It was evident that this Tree Dude felt a little chagrined with his ID number branded on his brow and his feet entwined in flowers for all to see. (I've obscured the number to prevent further humiliation).

This Tree Dude will likely long outlive the flowers and the life of the wooden plaque.  But with his very … (18 comments)

tree art: This Tree Dude Started It All - Almost Wordless Wednesday - 05/08/12 09:48 PM
Today is very exciting, I’m leaving for a trip in a few hours. Before I left though I wanted to transfer the photos from my camera and phone to a flash drive...just because.  Scanning through photos is always interesting…some were in the category of “I wonder what I saw there” and after channeling my inner weirdness still could not find the answer…well, those went bye-bye. Some I left copies on the phone and camera…Lazerkitty who we recently sent over the Rainbow Bridge, a few mountain vistas, the Office Manager and MoonDancer Realty essential personnel, family and tree dudes.

tree art: Are You Seeing This Too? - 04/02/12 09:56 PM

Are you seeing this too? The woods surround me where I live in Balsam, NC and it brings great comfort to know that the Blue Ridge Parkway property surrounds the house and there will never be any clearing or building there. I like knowing that forest wildlife, creeks and grand old trees are less than 100 feet from the front door.

This grand old tree, some form of poplar…tulip poplar...I think, has been here longer than we have. I see it several times a day and can’t believe I never recognized him for who he really is.

tree art: The Littlest Tree Dude - 03/31/12 10:16 PM

Tree dudes abound here in Western North Carolina and are favorites of mine to photograph. They're always accommodating subjects. Usually once they’ve put down roots they don’t tend to wander and are so easy to capture in their native habitats.  Luckily for me, working in real estate here...their native habitats are in my workspace.
The littlest tree dude was introduced to me last night at dinner. Our buyers have a house under contract in Franklin had come to town for the home inspection with Tom Johnson. While in town they were very kind to invite us to dinner at Sweet Onion in Waynesville before … (17 comments)

tree art: Tree Art in Cowee - 03/17/12 01:21 PM

If you’ve caught any of my Tree Art posts, you’ll know I love catching sight of the Tree Dudes whenever I’m out showing property. This one was in Franklin in the Cowee area. The buyers I’ve been working with over the last couple of days had never seen the Tree Faces. Do I know how to show people a good time or what?

This Tree Dude seemed a little irritated…I guess he’d seen the house too!

tree art: Druids and the Great Smoky Mountains - Smoky Mountain Country Club - 12/29/11 11:58 PM

When most people think of the Great Smoky Mountains, they really aren’t thinking much about golf courses. Just over the shoulder of this Druid lies the Smoky Mountain Country Club and Golf Course in the Conley’s Creek community of Whittier, NC.

SMCC features fine dining in the form of the Persimmon Grille, the golf course surrounded by the beauty of the mountains and amenities such as the work out gym, tennis courts and swimming pool.
The beauty of this location, whether you are a golfer or not, is the proximity to the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National … (6 comments)

tree art: Tree Dude in Franklin, NC - Wordless Wednesday - 11/08/11 11:39 PM

Why am I so enamored with these tree dudes? Personally, I’d never nail anything into a tree but for some reason whenever I discover one of these tree guys I have to stop and get the photo. There is a whole folder on my foto flash drive devoted to these contemporary Druids I've found all over Jackson, Haywood and now Macon County.
This tree Druid Dude was found when I made a wrong turn was exploring an alternate route on my way to meet one of Frisco the parrot’s humans to look at an old farmhouse in Franklin, NC.

It’s a … (6 comments)

tree art: The Most Unusual Trees are in Western North Carolina - 07/18/11 01:08 AM

The most unusual trees I've ever seen are here in Western North Carolina. They really seem to be able to see into your soul.  They are old, wise and loaded with character.   I've lived in a lot of states in the U.S. -  Michigan, California, New Mexico and Florida - plus traveled many more, but nowhere have I encountered trees with more personality.  Before everyone bristles with indignation that I might be slighting their states' trees, let me be the first to admit that it could be me...maybe I wasn't mature or in tune enough to see into the hearts … (9 comments)
